Dr. Walter Pierce Calik Energy Sanayi ve Ticaret A S., Ashgabat/Turkmenistan. Walter has a Ph.D. and MSc degrees in Geology from The Colorado School of Mines and an A. B. from DePauw University. Explored the Africa and Middle East as an Amoco geologist for seventeen years. Taught Geology for eight years at Ball State University, University of Georgia, and The Colorado School of Mines. Worked for the USGS in the Petroleum Group and in the Heavy Metals group. His recent work has included New Ventures, hydrocarbon system analysis of the Arabian plate, undiscovered reserve assessment, multi-basin assessment of Central Asia and the Middle East. Dr. Thamir Uqaili BDM, Baker Hughes, Baghdad, Iraq. Director, Petroconsult Canada, Mississauga, Canada, Reservoir Engineer (BPC), Field Manager (NOC), General Manager (CPO) General Manager Planning Department (MOO), Iraq; Area Reservoir Co-ordinator (North Africa) Repsol, Spain. Dr. M. Warrak Consultant Geologist, Research Associate in Structural Geology, Imperial College, London, and Associate Lecturer, the Open University, UK. Mohammed has a B.Sc. Honours in Geology, University of Liverpool, M.Sc. and D.I.C. in Petroleum Geology, Imperial College, University of London, Ph.D. in Structural Geology, Imperial College studying an area of great structural complexity in the Western Alps of France. Well-established researcher and teacher of Earth Sciences with detailed knowledge of the Geology of the Northern Oman Mountains. The results of his research include scientific papers and six geological map sheets of some of the most important and geologically critical regions of the Northern Oman Mountains. He also carried out consultations to the Government of the U.A.E. and many contracting companies including Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) / OMV Aktiengesellschaft (Austria) and Calvalley Petroleum (International) Inc., Canada.

Mr Saadalla Al Fathi Dome International LLC, Dubai, UAE. (Former Advisor - Ministry of Oil, Iraq). Dr. Mohammad Al Gailani Managing Director, GeoDesign Limited, London, UK. After graduating from Baghdad University in 1973 with a B.Sc. in Geology, he worked briefly for the Iraqi National Oil Company in Baghdad, before leaving to the UK where he obtained a M.Sc. from Aberdeen University, and a Ph.D. from Imperial College, London. He worked on several projects in the Middle East and the Parana Basin in South America, and published several papers on the diagenesis and reservoir characteristics at unconformities, and on the exploration potential of Iraq. Dr. Tariq Al Irhayim Consultant Petroleum Engineer, Baghdad, Iraq. Reservoir Engineer for KOC, IPC, then Iraqi (NOC) North Iraq Fields Exploration and Development, Project Manager of the Strategic Underground Storage of LPG in artificial salt cavities in Kirkuk. As Director of NOC Fields Division he was responsible for activities of Petroleum, Drilling, Geological Departments, R&D Laboratories and DPU Center with a total Staff of 500. Mr. S. Al Mukhtar Former INOC Lawyer, President, Arab Lawyers Network, London, UK. Qualified and admitted Iraqi Lawyer, studied Arab and Islamic law at Al-Mustansiryah University in Baghdad Iraq and awarded Bachelor degree in law in 1968. Awarded a degree of Master of law from London in 1986. Worked as the sixteenth employee of Iraq National Oil Company soon after its establishment in 19964. Admitted to the Iraqi Law Society in 1969 and from that date until 1974 practised Iraqi law as in-house Counsel in the legal department of the Iraq National Oil Company. During that period participated in almost all of the projects that were undertaken then. That included most of the contracts and agreements with the then eastern block countries (USSR, Rumania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia) as well as France, Brazil, India, Turkey, Syria and others. The projects involved all the facets of the oil industry including exploration, appraisal, and development of oilfields as well as upstream and downstream operations. Admitted to the Iraqi Bar in 1974. In that year the Baghdad Court of Appeal granted him the right to practice law on the Baghdad Circuit and thereafter, granted the right of audience at all levels of the courts of Iraq including the Court of Cassation. Eleanor Robson is a historian and archaeologist of ancient Iraq. She is a Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, and a Council Member of the British School of Archaeology in Iraq. Mr. Shafiq was one of the Founders and Directors of the Iraqi National Oil Company (INOC), in which he also served as Vice Chairman and Executive Director from 1964 to 1967. Prior to this, he served for ten years with the Iraq Petroleum Company (IPC) in various technical capacities in Iraq and London from 1954 to 1964, including as Head of Petroleum Engineering from 1963 to 1964. He also worked with the Kellog Corporation on the construction of the Dora Refinery in Iraq from 1953 to 1954. Mr. Shafiq has a B.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of California, Berkley, and was granted an Honorary Masters degree from Oxford University in 1980. He has a long working experience in the oil and gas industry world-wide, including examining upstream oil production policy, evaluating and negotiating petroleum agreements, and carrying out technical and economic feasibility studies on oil and gas discoveries, refineries and pipelines. Dr. Thamir Uqaili BDM, Baker Hughes, Baghdad, Iraq. Dr. Muhammad Ali Zainy Senior Energy Economist & Analyst, CGES, London, UK. Born in Iraq where he won a scholarship to study in the United Kingdom. Oil Refineries Administration in 1975 and left Iraq to study at the Colorado School of Mines (Colorado, USA) where he obtained a M.Sc. (1976) and a PhD in Petroleum Economics in 1980. The title of his Masters thesis was “Economic Evaluation of the Petroleum Industry of Iraq,” and the title his doctoral dissertation was “OPEC and Oil Production Policy as Affected by Absorptive Capacity: a Case Study of Iraq.” Dr. Zainy returned to the Ministry of Oil of Iraq in 1980 where he worked for two years as Director of the Energy Studies Department. After representing Iraq in an OPEC conference in Vienna in October 1982, Dr. Zainy defected to the United States, along with his wife and four children. Between 1983 and 1998, he worked in the oil industry in the United States, including seven years as Executive Vice President of the Colorado-based oil company “Intoil Inc.” During this time, and also worked as a consultant and wrote a book (in Arabic) about the Iraqi economy entitled The Iraqi Economy: Past, Present and Future Options. Dr. Zainy joined the London based Centre for Global Energy Studies (CGES) in January 1999 as Senior Energy Economist and Analyst, where he focused on the political economies of the Arabian Gulf countries. In 2003, Dr. Zainy went to Iraq as Oil Adviser with the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad to oversee the restoration of the war-damaged Iraqi oil infrastructure, four months later he resigned as a result of his dissatisfaction with the American team and with what was going on in Iraq at that time, and returned to London to rejoin the CGES team again.
