1. The discipline goal is to develop foreign students’ basic skills of speaking, listening, reading and
listening that enables foreigners to meet basic communication needs in everyday communication
situations related to common, partially socio-cultural and professional spheres, i.e. to achieve the
elementary level of Ukrainian language.
2. Prerequisites for mastering the discipline:
are absent because Ukrainian language is studied from the beginning.
3. Annotation of the discipline: The discipline provides foreigners with initial idea of Ukrainian language: alphabet, basic rules
of reading and writing, basic grammatical categories of parts of speech (gender, number, cases of
nouns, personal pronouns, adjectives; cases of numerals, personal and tense forms of verbs, verbal
aspects, etc.), agreement of numerals 1, 2, 3, 4, п’ять, багато, мало with nouns, simple sentence
structure, structure of complex sentence with conjunctions що, бо, тому and the conjunctive word
який). Students learn writing and reading in Ukrainian, correctly reproducing oral speech in writing,
participating in dialogues within everyday topics defined by the program, implementing following
communicative intentions in Ukrainian: greetings, farewells, apologies, acquaintances, questions
(about the thing, person, person’s activity, objects’ locations, about person’s appearance and
character, things’ belonging), questions and messages of address, place of residence, about the
weather, future plans, etc.
The discipline "Ukrainian language" promotes foreign masters’ adaptation in a new linguistic
and cultural environment.
4. Targets (learning objectives):
- to acquaint foreign students with the Ukrainian alphabet, basic sound-letter coorelations;
- to teach students reading in Ukrainian, correctly pronouncing sounds and adequately intoning
sentences of different communicative orientation;
- to form basic skills of comprehension by ear some separate sentences and simple short texts
on everyday topics;
- to teach students to reproduce Ukrainian sounds while writing and correctly decode what is
written, to write simple sentences within the topics being studied;
- to teach foreigners to implement elementary communicative intentions in Ukrainian;
- to provide primary ideas about the grammatical system of Ukrainian language.

7. Scheme of grades formation
7.1 Forms of students’ evatuation:
- semester assessment:
1. Modular test – 1 Modular test (LO: 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 2.4, 2.5, 3.1, 4.1) with a maximum
score of 10 points (minimum threshold level – 6 points).
2. Oral answers in practical classes during the semester (maximum – 5 points;
minimum – 3 points).
3. Homework (written and oral) during the semester (maximum 5 – points; minimum
– 3 points).
- final evaluation is carried out in the form of a credit:
The credit is based on the results of the student's work throughout the semester and does not provide
additional assessment activities for successful students. Students who totally scored less than 60
points in order to get credit must pass material on topics on which the debt arose i.e. to write modular
tests, answer oraly or do independent assignments.
7.2 Organization of evaluation:
The course provides 1 content module. After relevant topics completion an oral enquiry is
conducted to test theoretical knowledge and communication skills. Students’ assessment takes place
systematically during the semester in accordance with the thematic plan of practical classes. At the
end of the module there is a modular test with test assignments and open questions.

Syllable. Stress. Noun and adjective as parts of speech. The Noun:

positive answer, request, question. Noun gender: masculine, feminine,
neuter.

2. Noun number: singular, plural. The concept of cases. Nominative case
of nouns and adjectives. Personal pronouns: я, ти, він, вона, воно, ми,
ви, вони. Possessive pronouns: мій, твій, його, її, наш, ваш, їхній.
Simple sentence structure. Indicative pronouns. Quantitative numerals
(1-1000).

Characteristics of persons and objects. Names of rooms in the apartment,
names of furniture. Locative case of nouns and adjectives in singular and
plural with prepositions в (у), на.

the address and personal data, reporting about person’s activities in past.
Names of household items, names of parts of the city, names of pets.
Past tense of verbs, construction У мене є хто/що. Communicative
topic: Education, profession, specialty.

година? О котрій годині? and answers to them. Asking and reporting
about the year of birth. Names of months, seasons, numerals 100 –
1 000 000 000, adverbs взимку, навесні, влітку, восени. Future tense of
imperfective verbs, adverbs of time, complex sentence with conjunctions
бо, тому. Description of the house, apartment. Complex sentence with
the conjunctive word який.
