website
• It allows registered users to create profiles,
upload photos and video, send messages and

power to share and make the world more open
and connected.

EMPLOYER TWITTER ACCOUNTS
•Name: first and last name
•Handle: This is a Twitter username—how
people will refer to you, mention you,
and talk to you.
•Examples: @mawolleben @megwolleben
•The key is to create a handle (140
WORDS)
Bio: Think of this section as a version of one’s 30-second elevator speech. Use it to help tell your professional story; include university, class year, major, and career interests. It is important to incorporate keywords relevant to career interests in a Twitter bio; using keywords here will help profiles appear in searches.
Link: The easiest link to use may be a LinkedIn profile, you should make sure that the profile is complete.
• Questions they may have about their fields of interest. This will
show dedication to the topic and a desire to learn.
• About something interesting in their targeted fields. This
demonstrates knowledge and expertise.
• About a job or position they are seeking.
• About some of their skills and experiences; encourage them to
be confident self-promoters.
• Blog posts that they find, or write about news or issues that
relate to a field of interest.
• About whatever might make them unique. : What can I do that
would make me valuable to potential employers?
• Be authentic. Let their skills shine through
naturally.
• Engage with their followers. Retweet (RT) and
share information in a professional manner.
• Don’t spam. Tweeting every five minutes is not
advisable
• Give to their networks, helping others to promote
themselves, too. Job hunting as a community can
have much bigger impact.
• Look for trends in their desired industries while reading tweets.
• Join in conversations that relate to their fields of interest. (They may be scared to do this, but it’s important for them to make their voices heard. Remind them they can start small—even asking a question in the conversation is a good idea.
• Use Twitter search to look for jobs that are tweeted using keywords pertaining to what they are looking for
Popular hashtags for your job search include:
• #Hiring or #NowHiring
• #Jobs
• #Careers
• #TweetMyJobs
Don’t forget to look for career and industry specific
hashtags too, like:
• #ITJobs
• #TechJobs
• #Marketing
• #Freelance (in case you’re looking for quick or temporary jobs
while the main job search continues)
• #JobOpening
• #JobListing
• #JobPosting
• #HR
• #Graduate Jobs

• LinkedIn is a directory of professionals and
companies.
• Individuals use LinkedIn for networking, job
searching, hiring, company research, and
connecting with affiliates.

LINKEDIN JOB SEARCH SECTION
LINKEDIN MESSAGES/INVITATIONS
LINKEDIN COMPANY PROFILES
• Summary
• Experience
• Organizations
• Volunteering & Causes
• Education
• Projects
• Skills & Expertise
• Honors & Awards
• Languages
• Certifications
Write in small chunks, use bulleted lists whenever possible,
and avoid long paragraphs. Of course, error-free and
clear writing is important, too. The best summaries describe
a person’s interests—both personal and professional—and
are truly reflective of the individual’s voice.
• LinkedIn recommends that users connect with only those whom they know and trust.
• Here are a few suggestions of types of people who may be good to connect with:
Family members
Friends and fellow students
Internship or job supervisors and co-workers
Professors, advisers, coaches, and former teachers
Family friends
Job searching on
LinkedIn allows a
user to go beyond
the traditional job
listing because
each post is tied to
a company page
and the individual
profile of the
recruiter or hiring
manager who
posted the job.
1)REMEMBER: Social media is just a tool!
Treat social networking as you do in-person networking. Build your
relationships over time and with care. Social media is just the tool;
you still have to use that tool wisely and effectively.
2) REMEMBER: Keep in contact with your network!
Don’t take before you give. Help the individuals in your network so
that they will be willing to help you back once you need it. Even if
you land employment, remember to still keep in contact with your
network because you never know when you may need some help.
3) REMEMBER: Keep yourself updated on all social networking
sites!
Having outdated profiles out there means you risk looking
inconsistent. As your personal brand changes and evolves, your
newer profiles begin to differ more and more dramatically from the
old ones. Remember to update frequently, be consistent and give
100% of your effort!
