Ghost Hunt at Middleton Hall, TamworthFriday 28th September 2012, 8.30pm – 2.00am

Join us as we go ghost hunting at Middleton Hall, a Grade II listed building dat-ing back to medieval times. The De Frevilles held the Manor of Middleton until 1418, followed by the Willoughbys. In the mid 17th century the hall became home to Francis Willoughby, the famed mathematician, then in 1812 the estate was passed to Henry Willoughby. The Hall has an interesting architectural history with its earliest buildings dating from c.1300 and other buildings dating from the sixteenth century.

With links to Sir Hugh Willoughby the Tudor explorer, Cassandra First Duchess of Chandos, Elizabeth I, Lady Jane Grey and Jane Austen this over night ghost hunt may throw some light on to the mysterious haunted hap-penings within the hall. Will you come face to face with the spirit of Francis Willoughby? Although he perished at sea some say his spirit has returned to walk the corridors.

Throughout this paranormal investigation we will endeavour to raise the spirits through séances, table tipping and, if you dare, the spirit board. Join us as we try to establish if Middleton Hall is a most haunted venue or a peaceful resting place for past inhabitants.

Strictly limited places so book early in order not to be disappointed, if you dare!!!

The Moat House, Spooky Supper and Ghost HuntFriday 5th October 2012, 8.00pm – 2.00am

UK Ghost Nights invite you to join them for a ghostly night at The Moat House, a renowned haunted place. Paranormal activity was witnessed amongst other eerie happenings during our last visit to this most haunted house.

We invite you to join like-minded ghost hunters at The Historical Moat House Public House in the heart of Tamworth! Built in 1572, the Moat House has played host to many a colourful character in its time, and no doubt recorded a few memories in the very fabric of its walls along the way!

We won’t give too much away about the past of The Moat House - hopefully the more spiritually sensitive guests will pick up information for themselves as they explore the ancient rooms of this 400-year-old property. Suffice to say that there is a long and dramatic history of ghostly goings on and spooky shenanigans, not to mention reports of the occasional lady or gent wandering around the place!

Come and join us for a night to remember, enjoy a home cooked meal followed by a guided tour with our Spiri-tualist Medium. There will be plenty of opportunity to explore the building and surroundings grounds, (weather permitting) and carry out your own paranormal investigation!

Price Includes Buffet prior to the Ghost Hunt! Selling Fast, Book Your Place Now!!!! £40.00 per person

Editor’s CommEntWelcome to our August Edition of the Tamworth Journal. We

would like to thank all our readers for such a positive response

we had from the first edition of the magazine. It was a great

success, and we will continue to work hard to bring our

our country and the British Public, so support all our British

Olympians….let’s hope we do well!

Now that the Summer Holidays have begun, all the children

are off school and a lot of parents are probably wondering

what they can do. Well don’t worry… Tamworth and North

Warwickshire have a lot of different events and activities

going on over the Summer Holiday, so check out our ‘Diary

Dates’ page to see what’s on, and how to keep your children

bored free until September when school begins again.

In this August Edition of the Tamworth Journal we have the

Check them out and see what you think.

Why not try your luck and enter our competitions on

Keep the olympic spirit Alive this summer! After everyone watching the Olympic torch pass through Tamworth, the council are encouraging the general public to sign up to become a Local Leader to continue to celebrate the Olympic Games on every street.

Cllr Robert Pritchard, Deputy Leader of the Council, said: “Similar to the Diamond Jubilee, the Olympics is a great opportunity for local people to come together and celebrate Great Britain.

“The Local Leaders website contains advice, support and downloads to help you plan Olympic themes events from BBQs to street parties. Tamworth Borough Council put in a lot of work to secure the torch visit to Tamworth and we want to keep the Olympic spirit going throughout the Olympic and Paralympic games.”

With the help of other residents in your area, make the most of the Olympics and plan an event to cheer on our Great British Team and the other countries who are participating in the Olympics this year. Good Luck!

Anyone wishing to register can visit http://www.london2012.com/localleaders to sign up.

Send in your pictures to us, so we can feature some of the events held in Tamworth in our next edition.

TAmworThJournal NEwSBlue plaques to mark tamworth’s historic Buildings

Tamworth Heritage Trust has announced a new scheme where historic plaques will be placed on

important old buildings in Tamworth to highlight their cultural significance in the town. Members of the trust have asked if members of the public will help decide where the plaques should go. Three plaques will be placed this year, with more to follow in the coming years.

Trust chairman Richard Kingstone said the “blue plaques” could eventually be part of a heritage trail to take visitors across the town.

“The trust was discussing how we could promote Tamworth as a heritage location,” he said. “It was agreed to make an immediate start by awarding three blue plaques to buildings within the town centre.” He added: “The problem is choosing which buildings to put the blue plaques on.”

Tamworth has many Grade II listed historical buildings to choose from including the Assembly Rooms, Tamworth Castle, the Town Hall, and many other buildings throughout the town.

So if you have any suggestions of where the blue plaques should be placed, please write or email Richard including the reasons behind your decision. An announcement will be made in September as to where the plaques will be mounted. Email your suggestions to [email protected] or write to 3 Roman Way, Tamworth, B79 8NF.

tamworth’s blooming campaign goes to the judgesTamworth’s bid to become the Bloom capital of the Midlands for 2012 reached its climax in July with the visit of the Heart of England In Bloom judges Mike Garwood and Nicola Clarke. They were both taken on a tour through the Tamworth Borough and shown many of the magnificent floral displays and community projects which made up this year’s Tamworth In Bloom entry, on the theme Red, White & Bloom in honour of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.Last year Tamworth was awarded gold in the Small City category of the campaign in 2010 and 2011, as well as picking up a special award for horticultural excellence for the amazing Bandstand flower beds in the Castle Grounds. Now that the judging is over, Tamworth will have to wait until September to find out its result.

SHOPPING VILLAGE

Faroe Born is the UK’s first dedicated Faroese store selling a range of gorgeous Sirri knitwear, from warm, comfy, over-sized jumpers to accessories for men, women and children.

Wool does not get better than this. Native Faroese sheep are free to roam and are even shorn where they stand. It’s a truly wonderful life. And this is reflected in the luxuriant feel of our jumpers.

We are also absolutely delighted to have formed a partnership with Arthur Price that allows us to give our customers access to their range of beautiful cutlery, crockery and giftware. Arthur Price is the UK’s most desired cutlery, tableware and gifts brand.
