Though not many have come forward to assist us to reach greater heights for the welfare of our community, we are very excited to have grown in our Life Membership. We now have 151 Resident Life Members and also 10 Associate Life Members from Bayan Baru, Sungai Ara, Bukit Jambul, Air Itam and other parts of Penang. Our ordinary resident and associate memberships have also grown in number. Ordinary Members can convert their membership into life membership anytime they just need to contact their area representatives to pay the difference. This is most encouraging to us as our association has always opened its doors to all Penangites. Your Association has strived to do what’s possible within its limitations. What is still lacking is the support and people ’s involvement and commitment. Though the Association has survived the last 12 years, it is crying out for more leadership among you and one among you to take over the chairmanship. I am getting old and feeble after having founded the Association in 1999 and have led the Association for the last 10 years a perfect 10 for its reckoning! I wish to depart from this active role next year and one among you should step in and lead.

1. MALAYSIA DAY 2012 : http://tsnra.wordpress.com/past-events-2/malaysia-day-2012-at-tsnra/

President’s Speech

Happy Malaysia Day! Thank you all for being here to celebrate the occasion and your support is much appreciated. Enjoy

yourself and be happy.

Malaysia was formed on 16th September, 1963. After the stroke of midnight, we enter the year of JUBILEE for Malaysia.

It’s the year of freedom. We are already blessed in being free from major natural disasters, we don’t die from starvation and

diseases that plague so many poor countries and we have our own natural resources and a beautiful land. We look forward

to transformation, renewal and blessings that will bring HOPE and PROGRESS for the betterment of our nation.

Taman Sri Nibong is a mini-Malaysia with its own potpourri of races, cultures and religions. Here in our little RA, we are

apolitical, supporting the government of the day as an NGO. Your Association has strived to do what’s possible within its

limitations. What is still lacking is the support and people’s involvement and commitment. Though the Association has

survived the last 12 years, it is crying out for more leadership among you and one among you to take over the

chairmanship. I am getting old and feeble after having founded the Association in 1999 and have led the Association for the

last 10 years – a perfect 10 for its reckoning! I wish to depart from this active role next year and one among you should

step in and lead.

TZU CHI ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTRE

Above is Tzu Chi’s proposed plan for conversion of the abandoned MPPP Medan Selera into a Recycling Centre. At our meeting with YDP MPPP, MPPP officers,YB Phee Boon Poh and YB Sim Tze Tzin in August 2012, Tzu Chi accepted TSNRA’s terms and conditions ie : "Taman Sri Nibong Residents’ Association has no objection to Tsu Chi setting up a Recycling Centre at the abandoned MPPP foodcourt with the proviso that no religious teachings be propagated at the Centre. As an NGO, TSNRA must be aware of religious sensitivities. There should be no playing of Buddhist songs/music, distribution of pamphlets of religious significance and doctrine, sharing of the sutras, celebration of special days with Buddhist themes, prayers, meditation and chanting etc. in the centre. In addition, our Residents’ Association would like to have a wing facing the RA Clubhouse reserved for a Community Library & IT Training Centre to be run by MPPP, State Library or any other authorities including other NGO.s. This is to ensure that the Centre would benefit the whole community". The Library wing will benefit all Penangites. TSNRA has collected enough reading materials which cannot be accommodated in our Reading Corner due to lack of space. We also have volunteers to be librarians. We have a good selection of revision books for students and lots of beautifully illustrated children’s books. It is our dearest wish to promote a reading community and have in our midst a Community Library where parents can take their children there to read, where students can go to use the revision courses instead of their parents spending so much to buy them to be used for only a year and where children of volunteers helping out in recycling can read and study in peace and quiet with their parents outside to keep an eye on them. We need sponsors from TSNRA members and generous supporters to wall up this wing with doors and windows, build shelves for books and magazines and purchase some tables and chairs. To save cost, we just need ceiling fans instead of air-cons. We also hope to have a Computer Literacy Corner for senior citizens and homemakers. Maybe sponsors can donate their used computers when they are upgrading to newer models. Please contact our Mr HS Hwang (016-4701279) if you wish to help in this most beneficial community project. TSNRA can do so much for this community with your support. Without you, our plans can never be fulfilled. Do continue to visit our blog for latest updates, join us for our activities and events and keep in touch with your Area Representatives. Their contacts are in our blog at http://tsnra.wordpress.com/taman-sri-nibong-ra/committee-20092010/ Editor : Ms Molly S.C. Ooi, PJK
