The Town of Oyster Bay and Kids Helping Kids by Kids Way, Inc. announce that the Kids of Distinction Pro-gram has returned for 2011. The program recognizes kids in grades 5-12. According to Town Councilwoman Beth Faughnan, win-ners will be recognized at an upcoming meeting of the Town Board and will be presented with a plaque and $500 scholarship from Kids Helping Kids. “This program recognizes kids for taking part in activities done on their own initiative,” Councilwoman Faughnan said. “Our past winners certainly fit the bill, many going above and beyond the call of duty to help others in their community.” Nominees are placed in two categories, those current-ly in fifth through eighth grade and those in grades nine through 12. The age groups were established so nominees can be evaluated fairly against their peers.
