Electrical splices and terminations

The conventional sealing solution of

heat shrink material typically requires

the application of open fl ames — a

serious safety concern in petrochemi-

cal facilities. Cold shrink technology

from 3M offers a safe alternative that

avoids exposure to direct fl ame and

delivers highly reliable long-term

performance — even in extremely

harsh environments.

Epoxy and urethane coatings

3M epoxy and urethane coatings are

engineered to perform. An oil company

required a coating for their 260-km

pipeline project that could withstand

local transportation and installation

over hot, rocky terrain. 3M’s dual layer

pipe coating systems provided high

impact resistance and fl exibility to suit

their terrain, while providing them a more

environmentally friendly solution than the

local alternatives.

Ceramic sand screens and bearings

Sand can present a major obstacle

to well production by creating

accelerated wear for assets. Under-

standing these challenges, 3M teamed

with oil operators to develop a new sand

control device that replaces wire with

advanced ceramic rings able to withstand

erosional forces more effectively and

extend asset life by preventing sand

from entering the system for a longer

3M™ Scotchkote™ products range from liquid

to powder coatings and offer a wide variety of

fi eld applications where corrosion protection of

metal, including tanks, valves, piping and special

fabrications, is needed.

Corrosion tapes

3M™ Scotchrap™ 50 & 51 Tapes are tough,

polyvinyl chloride-based tapes with special high-

tack adhesives, specially formulated to resist

corrosion of metal piping systems above and

below ground, and fi ttings and joints on all

mill-coated pipe and electrical conduit systems.

Internal fl ow coatings

3M™ Scotchkote™ Internal Flow Coatings are

designed to help protect the internal surfaces

of (steel) pipe against corrosion as well as help

provide fl ow enhancement. In addition, these

coatings help provide excellent resistance to

CO2, H2S, CH4, petroleum distillates and brines

Spray system
