• IP at Computer :

– No changes

– DNS : 10.251.3.2 & 10.249.0.14

• Kaspersky Anti Virus:

– Please refer to CD posted to schools on the manual and configuration

• Content Filtering:

– No configuration needed at computer

• Cable & Switch:

– Cable : • UTP : not more than 100m

• Fiber : up to 5km to 10 km, depends on type of fiber

– Switch: • Lag is factored by how many switches you daisy chain and what the distances are.

Each switch has to in turn process traffic, so obviously get more hops and higher latencies.

• Rule of thumb : maximum is 4 switches

LAN

Page 10: Taklimat TM SBB ICT Coordinator ADSL+VSAT 11Sept11

• Router:

– Located at server room

– Connected to Core Switch

• Condition Required:

– Rack

– Sufficient ventilation to avoid router hang

• Using Websense Web Security

• Content filtering is deployed at TM School Broadband Internet gateways located at 4 locations:

TeruntumKomtarJohor BharuCyberjaya

•Each Data center have one dedicated Websense Manager server to manage its dedicated Web Filtering servers.

•Web filtering is done based on categories determined by Websensedatabase. The database is regularly updated to include latest URL.

Problem Troubleshooting Suggestion PC cannot access the Internet Use the ping utility to check whether your PC

can communicate with ADSL Router LAN IP

address. If it cannot, check the Ethernet

cabling, and check the LED status.

Check the gateway IP Address on the

computer is a valid IP address, if it is not,

correct the address.

Verify with GITN the DNS server specified for

the PC is valid. PCs cannot display web pages on the Internet.

Verify that the DNS server specified on the

PC’s is correct. You can use the ping utility to

test connectivity.

Page 24: Taklimat TM SBB ICT Coordinator ADSL+VSAT 11Sept11

Problem Troubleshooting Suggestion

Power LED does not illuminate

after product is turned on

End-user must verify that they are using the

AC adapter provided with the device. It must

securely connect to ADSL Router and a wall

socket/power strip.

DSL LED does not illuminate

after phone cable is

attached

Make sure to use a standard telephone line

(provided with the device). Make sure you

had correctly connected the device. Wait 30

seconds to allow ADSL Router to negotiate a

connection with ADSL service provider.

Ethernet LED does not

illuminate after Ethernet cable

is attached.

End-user must verify that the Ethernet cable is

securely connected to the hub/PC and to

ADSL Router. Make sure the PC/hub is turned

ON.

End-user must verify that they are using a

“straight-through” cable to connect to the

uplink port of a hub/switch or using a

“straight-through” cable to connect to a

computer.

test connectivity.

Note:

LAN or Gateway IP Address is an IP Address belonging to the IDU Router.

DNS IP Addresses are 10.251.3.2 and 10.249.0.14.

VSAT BASIC TROUBLESHOOTING

Page 28: Taklimat TM SBB ICT Coordinator ADSL+VSAT 11Sept11

VSAT INDOOR UNITFirstly, when the idu’s power source is on - all four LEDs (PWR, ALM, ODU, and SAT) will be turned ON for approximately 3 to 5 seconds indicating power-on for POST test.

After 3 to 5 seconds, the PWR and ODU LED should stay ON and SAT LED will then starts blinking slowly indicating receive of outbound carrier.

After 5 to 10 seconds, the SAT LED will be blinking quickly indicating inbound synchronization in progress and stays ON and GREEN during operational. (Refer to the diagram)

During normal operation, the PWR (power), ODU, and SAT LED should stay ON. If for some reason either one of these LED is not ON or blinking, please refer to Link Star trouble shooting guide (refer to the diagram).

• Set the properties of the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)• Change the IP address and DNS server addresses

IP address : 10.121.194.2Subnet mask : 255.255.255.192 (fixed)

OR 255.255.255.0 (for Full Class C/250 IP)

Default gateway : 10.121.194.1

Preferred DNS server : 10.251.3.2 (fixed)Alternate DNS server : 10.249.0.14 (fixed)

Domain Name Server (DNS)- The Domain Name System (DNS) is a distributed Internet directory service. DNS is used mostly to translate between domain names and IP addresses, and to control Internet email delivery. Most Internet services rely on DNS to work, and if DNS fails, web sites cannot be located and email delivery stalls.
