used by companies to measure their quality of service, to gauge compliance with company regulations, or to gather information about internal services or products

• A mystery shopper is an independent contractor hired by a mystery shopping company to perform these quality checks

Who Can Become a Mystery Shopper?• While the majority of shops can be completed by

anyone ages 21+, some shops are age or location specific.– Restaurants or Bars participating in age compliance shops

might require that shoppers be between the ages of 21 and 29.

– Certain Fine Dining Restaurants might require shoppers be in their 30s and 50s as a representation of their typical customer

– Traveling in an airport? Consider picking up a shop specific to an airport terminal or food court!

Where Can I Find Secret Shopper Jobs?

• Secret Shopper jobs are available throughout the United States and Canada.

• New shops are listed around the 20th of the month– The more experience you have as a shopper, the

greater variety of shops you are likely to see

Tips for Becoming a Successful Shopper• Always read the shop guidelines and questionnaire

before you go to complete your shop.• Write objectively and concisely, and be sure to

address all “no” answers in your report. • Be honest. Report on both the positive and negative

aspects of your visit. • To avoid suspicion while still remembering important

details, send yourself texts during the shop with notes about your visit.
