NCHSAA EJECTIONS On all NCHSAA Ejections:

Two (2) officials must notify the head coach of the player being ejected and the player’s number.

One of the following six offenses:1) Fighting2) Taunting, Baiting or spitting3) Profanity, directed to an official or opponent4) Obscene Gestures

5) Disrespectfully Addressing an Official

Note:Deliberately contacting an official is subject to automatic expulsion and

can result in ineligibility for the remainder of players high school career.

6) Biting Observed by an Official

Penalty for an ejection for the above reasons results in an ejection from the

contest and the player must miss the next two contests at that level and all contests in the interim

Exception : The penalty for an ejection for fighting would be the player

will miss the next 4 contests at that level and all contest in the interim.

Yellow Card Tracking

Coaches are responsible for reporting all yellow cards accumulated by their players and all team personnel (including coaches) to their athletic directors

NO CHANGE IN POLICY-refer to Soccer Section of the NCHSAA Handbook

Remember: a red card disqualification that is not an ejection is the equivalent of two yellow cards

Penalties are enforced at the conclusion of the game and ejection reports must also be filed at the appropriate time for accumulation of yellow cards.

Remember:Once brackets are released for playoffs, yellow cards are reset to zero-3 yellow cards in playoffs, player is suspended next game-A total of 5 yellow cards means player is out for the remainder of playoffs and may carry over to other sports

Reminders -

Host School Management: must provide an escort off the field for the officials, we recommend law enforcement officer in uniform for varsity matches (may be assigned adult)

Home School Clock Keeper: official time will be kept on the clock unless mutual agreement of coaches allow head referee to keep time on the field.

Uniform Changing: Competitors must use locker-room facilities. Disqualifications may occur.

Authorization of a Prescribed Appliance

If any player has a cast or brace, there is an authorization form on the website

-Requires signature of physician and parents/custodians and a copy should

be given to the head referee. Coaches should keep copies to take to each game.

Anchoring Goals: Officials should not start a game unless the goals are properly anchored and secure.

Dead Period: Coaches working with outside organized teams or individual instruction need to be aware of the dead periods.

Fall Try Out Dead Period- Aug. 1 - Sept. 11st day of practice- Sept. 1

*During the week of Aug. 1 all fall sports except football may continue the summer routine practices*

Winter Try Out Dead Period- Monday week of Nov. 1 - Dec. 11st day of practice-Dec. 1

There is a dead period during the last 5 student days each semester.

The weight room must also be closed during the last 5 student days of each semester.

Weight training/conditioning can take place during the dead periods (open to all and required of none).

Ind. skill development and open facilities are not allowed during dead periods.

On a given day, an athlete is limited to skill development, open facility or wt. Training/conditioning

Coaches must not criticize officials in the media. If you are quoted

be prepared for a $400 fine.

Medical Exam: There is no change in the 365-day provision. Eligible

athletes must have had a medical examination once every 365 days done

by a duly licensed physician, nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant

and be cleared to participate.

NCHSAA Rules and Changes:Addition to Penalty: Approved a 365-day suspension from eligibility for a

student athlete who has provided falsified information.

Coaching Requirement: In order to coach at a NCHSAA member school,

a required annual meeting of all coaches to receive a power-point

presentation, prepared by NCHSAA Staff.

Sportsmanship:Fighting now carries a 4 game ejection penalty.

Tie Games:There is no exception in regular season if there is a tie at the end of regulation

play -

- Play continues with (2) overtime periods of 10 minutes each.

- If there is no winner at that point, the game shall be considered

a tie for both teams.

- Junior varsity teams do not play overtime periods.

In Tournament game and playoff games, tied games are resolved by the

National Federation Tournament Progression Format.

Playoff Game Time:-Will be 7:00pm, unless mutually agreed upon to play at 6:00 pm

-Saturday game times may be earlier if mutually agreed upon.

Inclement/Hot Weather Guidelines:The following should be considered when scheduling practice:

- Time of day- Intensity level of practice- Equipment worn- environmental conditions

*High Temperature and high humidity create a dangerous situation for athletes. A high humidity and low temperature can also cause serious heat-related problems.*

*Water/fluid replacement breaks recommended each 20 or 30 minutes. (depending on practice conditions)*Check with your AD on your LEA’s and school’s policy pertaining to practice on days of extreme heat.

OFFICIALSFor all sports, in the first two (2) rounds of the state playoffs officials will be

assigned by the local booking agent of the higher seeded team. (host school)

Neutral booking associations must be used or one agreed upon by both

coaches.

Booking agents are not allowed to work games except in emergency

situations. Notify when this needs to occur.

assist in calling games outside their assigned association.

Exam Date: August 18 - 22

Dead line for registration was June 15. Booking agents must give approval

to any officials registering late. (also an extra $5 amount to register)

•Each state high school association adopting these NFHS soccer rules is the sole and exclusive source of binding rules interpretations for contests involving its member schools. Any person having questions about the interpretation of NFHS soccer rules should contact the soccer rules interpreter designated by his or her state high school association.
