Your career...in procurement and supply can take you anywhere
and everywhere.
Sometimes known as purchasing, or buying, procurement essentially
means buying goods or services. This can be virtually anything, from raw
materials and computer systems, to advertising and marketing – basically,
whatever a company needs to keep operating. It’s an important function
in every business, from small organisations to huge multinationals.
One of the main roles for a buyer is to get the best value for money for
every item purchased for a company. This means you’re pretty
indispensable. As a procurement professional, you’ll be in high demand,
playing such a crucial role that job security in this profession is high.
You’ll also be well rewarded, as salaries and benefits in the profession
are extremely competitive, and working in procurement opens up
opportunities overseas as well as the chance to reach the highest levels
in organisations.

Your journey starts here
CIPS, together with renowned education
publishing and assessment service Pearson
Education, has developed the BTEC
programmes of study in this leaflet to help you
get into a career in procurement and supply.
BTECs are mainly designed for over 16 year
olds but some schools do offer them for
learners as young as 14. You can either study
for a BTEC full or part time, at school or
college.
There are 7 levels of BTEC in
all, but the ones we’re talking
about in this leaflet cover
levels 1 to 5.
BTECs are always vocational or work-related
courses and designed to answer specific
employer needs, which means you’re gaining
skills that employers will find really useful and
make you a great prospect in the jobs market.
Here’s where your journey as a buyer starts
with BTEC Pearson Education Ltd.
Why choose a BTEC?
• BTECs are reputable, widely
recognised and highly valued
• They answer specific employer needs
which means you’re gaining skills
that employers will find really useful
and make you a great prospect in the
jobs market
• If you don’t like exams, BTECs allow
you to demonstrate your skills and
knowledge based on real-life work
and case studies
• Depending on whether you choose
full or part time, each BTEC level
takes around 1 to 2 years to complete
• They also allow you to go onto
further and higher education,
earning you:
- Equivalent points to AS and A levels
- UCAS points for entry into higher
education (at Level 3).
