An opening reception for the exhibit will be held be- tween 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Weds., April 1, at The Gal- lery at Tacoma Community College, located at 6501 S. 19th St., Building 4, in Tacoma. Visitors are invited to enjoy snacks and meet the artists. The exhibit will be on display through the month of April. The Gallery is typically open between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The 11-member commission oversees the es- tablishment and regulation of landmarks, local historic districts, proposed name changes for public facilities, and certain property tax incen- tives, according to the City's Web site. Commission members are appointed by Ta- coma City Council; serve three-year terms; and typically include three architects, four individu- als with professional expertise in preservation- related fields, one representative from the Ta- coma Arts Commission, and three interested citizens. Non-voting ex-officio members may be appointed to represent property and business owners within Tacoma's historic districts. The Landmarks Preservation Commission typically meets at Tacoma City Hall at 5:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. In February, the City issued a call for appli- cants to fill a volunteer At-Large position on the commission (see "City seeks applicants for Tacoma Landmarks Preservation Commission," Tacoma Daily Index, Feb. 6, 2015). The deadline for applications expired on Fri., Feb. 13. Tacoma City Council's Neighborhoods and Housing Com- mittee interviewed candidates during a public meeting earlier this month (see "2 candidates apply to serve on Tacoma Landmarks Preserva- tion Commission," Tacoma Daily Index, Feb. 24, 2015). The committee then forwarded its recom- mendation for appointment to the full council for final confirmation. Tacoma City Council is scheduled to vote on a resolution to appoint Lauren Flemister to an At-Large position to serve a term to expire on Dec. 31, 2017, during a public meeting at 5 p.m. on Tues., March 24, at Tacoma City Hall. Local resident could join Tacoma Landmarks Preservation Commission Pierce County officials announced Monday 72nd Street East between Canyon Road East and 66th Avenue East will be closed from 7 a.m. on Sat., March 28 to 7 p.m. on Sun., March 29 while crews install pipes under the road for a new stormwater filter vault. The vault will re- move contaminants from stormwater runoff be- fore it enters Rody Creek. The closure will not impact local residents getting to and from their homes. Drivers will be detoured onto Canyon Road East and Pioneer Way East during the closure. Lane restrictions that began on Mon., March 9, on this half-mile section of 72nd Street East will continue after the closure until Sun., April 15. The roadway will be reduced from four lanes to two between 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays. Three lanes will be open during non-work hours. Motorists should expect minor delays. Stormwater is rain that runs off of hard sur- faces such as roads into a system of pipes, ditches and ponds. Along the way, stormwater picks up pollution from vehicle leaks, animal waste, fer- tilizers and other toxic chemicals. Most storm- water eventually flows into local streams, lakes, rivers and Puget Sound. The total project construction cost is approxi- mately $425,000, with the Washington State De- partment of Ecology funding $318,715 of the ef- fort. The rest $106,250 is funded by Pierce County surface water management fees. Hoff- man Construction Inc. is the contractor. The 11-member commission oversees the es-tablishment and regulation of landmarks, local historic districts, proposed name changes for public facilities, and certain property tax incen-tives, according to the City's Web site.

Commission members are appointed by Ta-coma City Council; serve three-year terms; and typically include three architects, four individu-als with professional expertise in preservation-related � elds, one representative from the Ta-coma Arts Commission, and three interested citizens. Non-voting ex-of� cio members may be appointed to represent property and business owners within Tacoma's historic districts. Pierce County of� cials announced Monday 72nd Street East between Canyon Road East and 66th Avenue East will be closed from 7 a.m. on Sat., March 28 to 7 p.m. on Sun., March 29 while crews install pipes under the road for a new stormwater � lter vault. The vault will re-move contaminants from stormwater runoff be-fore it enters Rody Creek.
