HOSA scholarsLogan Simmons (center), a recent graduate of South Columbus High School, is one of four area students awarded $1,000 HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) scholarships from Columbus Regional Healthcare System. Simmons, the son of How-ard and Loretta Simmons, plans to study nursing at Southeastern Community College. Each of the scholars completed a second level Health Occupation class at their high school. Scholars included Mary-Catherine Axelberg (left of West Columbus High School, Whiteville grad Brianna Gore (right) and East Columbus High’s Miranda Larkins (not pictured). “We are extremely excited to be able to offer these scholarships” said Ter-rie Priest, VP of Business Development and Community Relations. “We feel that it’s important for us to promote health careers and support education in the community we serve.”
Coastal Carolina University’s Alum-ni Association is seeking nominations for the 2012 Outstanding Alumni awards. Nominations are due by Friday, Sept. 14. Six alumni awards are presented annually. Four will recognize out-standing alumni from each of the four colleges (E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration, the Col-lege of Science, the Spadoni College of Education and the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humani-ties and Fine Arts) in addition to the Overall Outstanding Alumnus of the Year and the Young Alumnus of the Year. The nomination criteria and selec-tion will be based on the following:• Alumnusof theYearnomineesmusthave graduated from an undergraduate or graduate course of study at Coastal Carolina University (if nominee at-tended prior to 1974, a two-year degree is required).• YoungAlumnusof theYearnomi-
