WHAT IS TABLET ??

Tablets are fully-functional laptop PCs and more.

A Tablet PC has all the features a laptop computer does, it offers the ability to use a pen to take notes or mark up documents in our own handwriting directly on the screen.

The pen can do the things that we use a mouse to do, such as select text, drag icons, and open files.

The Tablet PC can also convert text, convert our handwriting into typed text and recognize voice commands.

INTRATEXT

IntraText is a digital library that offers an interface while meeting formal requirements.

Texts are displayed in a hypertextual way, based on Tablet PC interface.

IntraText is a reading, reference and search tool.

It is used in publishing high quality electronic editions, particularly in editorial work.

CONVERTIBLE Attached keyboard Really a laptop with pen capability Heavier, bulkier than slate, but more general purpose Currently 21 models

WHAT’S SPECIAL ??

Generally lighter than laptop (but single-spindle). Long battery life.

Allows interaction with pen

NOT like PDA: usually no battery in pen, and screen is not touch-sensitive (motion coming out with touch-sensitive tablet).

Requires “special” pen (generally inter-changeable among models).

Multiple screen orientations.

HOW DOES PEN WORK ??

Just like a mouse with all applications and the OS

Allows pen “input” with some applications.

Applications fall into 3 classes with respect to pen:

“Pen-Aware”: fully capable

“Pen-Enabled”: some capability/accommodation

“Pen-Ignorant”: no pen input support Battery Life

The magical “tablet pc input panel” application. Supports typing or writing. Converts to character input. Also used to enter special characters. No “training” required!

Models also have special “hot keys” to ABCDE control applications.
