About this Install Model Server of Quadri documentThis document describes how to install and configure the Model Server in a corporate network.

The most up to date version of this document can be downloaded from http://help.novapoint.com.

Getting an authorization codeIn order to use Model Server “Private Cloud”1 you need an authorization code for the number of users thatyour license covers. If Trimble ID shall be used as a user source you need access keys for the Trimble ID setup.Send an email to [email protected]. We will contact you within latest 2 hours after the download in ourservice centres opening time2. We will set up a Quadri Model Server Term Agreement, and schedule anappointment with our Quadri Serviceteam that will guide you through the installation setup.

Download Model Server Installation PackagesDownload the installation package using the link received from Trimble Solutions Sandvika AS

In general, all installation packages can be downloaded from this site: Quadri - Resource Center

The installation packages are distributed as Zip files and the downloaded Zip files should be unzipped to a new,empty folder. All files must be kept together in the same structure, as they are unzipped.

The installation package contains the following files:1. Readme[version number].txt2. Model_Server_Embedded_Database_19.zip3. Model_Server_Embedded_Database_19.10.zip4. Model Server [version number] Setup.zip

Readme [version number].txt contains important information (typically last minute information) related to thespecific installation of one version. You should always read this file.

Files in Model Server Embedded Database 19.zip and Model_Server_Embedded_Database_19.10.zip are thesetup files that install the Embedded Database.

Files in Model Server [version number] Setup.zip are the setup files that install the application server.

Prerequisites for a successful Model Server installation

Operating System

The Model Server runs on: Windows Server 2019 x64, Windows Server 2016 x64 ,Windows Server 2012 R2x64 - Standard, Datacenter, and Essentials editions

Windows Update

Model Server requires that all available Windows updates are applied.

System Access using a System Administrator Account

The installation and setup must be done using a system administrator account on the Windows Server.

System Hardware Requirements

Before you install Model Server make sure you meet the minimum requirements. See the following table forhardware requirements. Please contact us for more information ([email protected]).

RAM 32GB Minimum. Installing more memory is today a cost effectiveperformance boost for Quadri installations that are intended tohandle several concurrent heavy transactions. However, beaware that the Standard edition of Windows Server only utilizes32 GB of memory.

Disk I/O is critical for the day-to-day work. Disk size, rule ofthumb: A model covering 10 square km (3.33 km * 3.33 km)needs approximately 10 GB data storage capacity.

A disk on another network device may be used. Disk I/O is notcritical for the day-to-day work. Disk size, rule of thumb: A fullweek’s backup for human error recovery support of 10 GBproduction data requires approximately 15 GB backup storagecapacity.

Microsoft URL Rewrite Module 2.1 for IIS

Model Server requires the Microsoft URL rewrite module 2.1 for IIS.

Please note this important item from the System Requirements:● IIS 7 (and higher) supports a new shared configuration environment, which must be disabled on each

server in a web form before installing the URL Rewrite Module for each node. Note: sharedconfiguration can be re-enabled after the URL Rewrite Module has been installed.

If shared configuration is enabled in your environment, take the necessary actions. See Installing IIS Modulesin Shared Configuration Environments on Microsoft Web site.

The URL Rewrite module is installed as a part of Quadri's Model Server installation.

Enable Application Server and Web Server (IIS) support

Model Server depends on the Application Server and the Web Server (IIS) supporton your Windows Server. What needs to be enabled is slightly different for the different Windows Serverversions.

See the section Enable Application Server and Web Server (IIS) support for further instructions

Source for user accounts

During installation of Model Server, you have to decide the source for user accounts to use. Trimble ID orEmbedded in Model Server.

Trimble ID as source for user accounts (recommended)

If you select Trimble ID as a source for users, Model Manager and Quadri Client will connect to Trimble IDwhenever necessary. No user information will be stored in the Model Server database and no manualsynchronization between Model Server and Trimble ID is necessary.

If Trimble ID is to be used as the user account source, the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) has to beshared with the Trimble team in order to provide proper setup of the authentication service.

Embedded user source

If you select Embedded as source for the user accounts all user account information is stored in the embeddeddatabase.

SSL Certificate

For security reasons it is recommended that SSL encryption is enabled on the Quadri serveri. To enable SSLencryption on Quadri, a valid and approved SSL certificate has to be provided during the installation process.Certificates are sold by different international and national Certificate Authorities.

Enable Application Server and Web Server (IIS) support

Enabling IIS on Windows Server 2012 R2

● Open Server Manager and select Add roles and features

● The Add Roles and Features Wizard opens in a new window

● Click Next.● On the Select installation type screen, select Role-based or feature-based installation and click Next

● On the Select destination server screen, select the target server.

● Select Web Server (IIS)

● When selecting Web Server (IIS), a dialog box regarding required features is displayed. Click AddFeatures in the box.

Enabling IIS on Windows Server 2016 and 2019

● Open Server Manager and select Add roles and features

Install Model Server Embedded Database

Make sure Model Server Embedded Database Server is downloaded and unzipped. Model Server EmbeddedDatabase setup is two files:

1. Model_Server_Embedded_Database_19.zip2. Model_Server_Embedded_Database_19.10.zip

Model Server Embedded Database Server requires the installation to be done with administrator privileges. Ifthe user installing Model Server Embedded Database Server already has administrator privileges the setup fileis ready to run. Should the user not have administrator privileges, the setup needs to be executed by rightclicking the setup installation icon and selecting the Run as Administrator option

The embedded database will be installed in a fixed directory. You have the option to change the disk drive forthe installation.

Now follow the instructions from the wizard to install Model Server Embedded Database Server.

Now install Model Server Embedded Database 19.10. This will be installed in a fixed directory and can not bechanged.

Install Model ServerThis installation step can only be carried out if Model Server Embedded Database is installed and Model Serveris downloaded and unzipped.

Setup Prerequisites. If any of these components are missing they will be installed.

Now follow the instructions from the wizard to install Model Server .

Initial setup of Model ServerAfter installing Model Server a shortcut is created on the Start Menu and the Desktop.

This tool is used to set up Model Server .

Create new Model Server

Start the Model Server Setup tool to set up a new server.

Click the New Model Server button on the start-screen to start setting up a new Model Server .

The smaller buttons are for reconfiguring an existing server, setup or change connection to Active Directory,unlock database System account, and to display Help information.

If any of the prerequisites are not met, a window displaying the prerequisites will be activated.Continuing the setup will be possible even if the prerequisites are not met, but the configuration might fail orthe daily use of the system may suffer.

Embedded Database setup

The installation and configuration process contains several steps that are pre selected:

You may run the steps Schema, Tests and Firewall multiple times.

1. Select drives to install the database embedded with Model Server . Do not install any parts of theembedded database on a removable drive

a. SW: Drive for the embedded database software

b. Data: Drive used for storing database data.

c. Backup: Drive used for storing database backup-files.

2. Click the Database button. A window is shown telling that the next step of the installation will takesome time. Click Yes if the installation should continue.

3. When the installation is complete, verify that all selected components have been installed and clickthe OK button.

Click the button on the right to expand the installation window and continue to the next step

Model Server Web Application setup

In this section,you set up the Web applications in Internet Information Service (IIS).

Option 1 (Recommended): Set up IIS with SSL encryption (HTTPS) on port 443.

Prerequisites: The server has to be available on a Public IP address, SSL certificate for a public registereddomain and public DNS record for the IP address / domain.

Example prerequisites:The server should be available on https://myhost.mydomain.com

● Public registered domain name, example: mydomain.com● Hostname / subdomain name: myhost● Public IP address, example:. 80.80.80.80● Public DNS record: Name: myhost.mydomain.com - Data: 80.80.80.80● SSL certificate for *.quadri.cloud (wildcard certificate) or myhost.quadri.cloud.

1. Enter the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN).Following the example this will be myhost.mydomain.com

2. Click the button SSL (Off) to secure Model Server by using SSL

3. Check the SSL checkbox and browse for the SSL Certificate.

4. Type the SSL Certificate password and click OK to save

5. Click the IIS button

6. The Internet Information Service will now be set up.

The setup of the Internet Information service may be run multiple times.

Click the OK button, the click the button on the right to expand the installation window and continue to thenext step

Option 2: Set up IIS on port 80 (HTTP) - (Not recommended)

1. If the default port 80 shall be used click IIS button to set up Internet Information Service (IIS).

2. To specify a different port number than the default port 80. Click IIS Values and enter the portnumber. Click OK and then the IIS button to set up IIS .

3. The Internet Information Service will now be set up.

Model Server Configuration

Option 1 (Recommended): Set up Model Server with Trimble ID as a user source.

This option requires that IIS is set up with SSL encryption in the previous step.

Prerequisites:● The fully qualified domain name (FQDN) have to be shared with the Trimble team and you should have

got a confirmation that the authentication service is set up.

1. Select Trimble ID in the User Source drop down list.

2. Click the Model Server button.

When the setup is finished a log file is populated. In case of an unsuccessful setup this log file containsimportant information to help diagnose the cause of the problem.

3. Close the log file and click OK.

4. Close Model Server Setup.

Finalize setup of Trimble ID in the Model Manager.

When Model Server is set up with Trimble ID as a user source, you have to sign in to Model Manager andinvite at least one Model Manager administrator.

Sign in to the Model Manager.

1. A web browser was launched during set up. The URL for Model Manager is:https://myhost.mydomain.com/modelmanager

2. Enter your email address: [email protected] and click Next

3. Enter the password.

4. Click Sign in.

5. Click Administrators.

6. Enter your email address end click Invite

You will receive an email that you are invited as a Model Manager administrator. Follow the instructions in theemail to get access as an Administrator.

7. Verify that your email is in the list and that it is checked for Accepted

Model server is now set up and ready.

Option 2: Set up Model Server with Embedded users as a user source.

With this option all users are defined and stored in the Model Manager Database and user management isperformed in the Model Manager.

1. In the User Source drop down list select Embedded. Enter the Admin password.This is the password for the user Admin that will be the administrator for Model Manager

2. Click Model Server and wait for the Model Server application to be set up.

3. When the setup of the Model Server is finished a log file is populated and a browser is launched.

An Internet Explorer instance with the Model Server Model Manager site will be started if the installation issuccessful.

A shortcut to the Model Server Model Manager site is also installed on the desktop of the server.

4. Click the L button to open Log for the installation and configuration.Optional save the log-file to your local disk (“File” / “Save As…” in Notepad).

5. Click the P button to open the Prerequisite check dialog box.6. Click the C button to close Model Server Setup.

Add a valid license key for Model Server and set the Hostname inModel ManagerWhen the installation of Model Server is finished, you need to start the Model Manager to add the license key.

If you have selected Trimble ID the initial username and password will be emailed to you.

If you have selected Embedded users during the installation, the username is “admin”, and the password is theone specified when installing.

Go to the Server page to update the license key.

Go to the Settings page and select Host Name / IP Address.Enter the Fully Qualified Domain Name or the IP address for the server. This hostname is used in the URL thatis populated for the projects created in Model Manager.

Firewall settings

For Quadri for Browser to be able to receive data from the enabled projects in Model Manager, it might benecessary to do some changes in your firewall:

Modify the schedule of the internal hot data backupAs default, the internal hot data backup runs with full backup every Sunday at 01:00 and incremental backuponce a day at 01:00 on the six subsequent days. The backup files are recycled every week.

To modify the schedule you open Windows Task Scheduler.

Mark the actual task ‘Full backup of Quadri’, and open the associated properties dialog.

Locate the tab Triggers and edit the scheduling plan according to the needs.

Upgrade existing Trimble Quadri 3.0 Server

Model Server 3.2 will upgrade an existing Trimble Quadri 3.0 or 3.1 installation. Earlier versions of TrimbleQuadri can not be directly upgraded to Model Server 3.x .

Trimble Quadri installations have to be upgraded to Quadri 3.0.FP4F or later.In case of a parallel Trimble Quadri 3.0 and Trimble Quadri 2.x installation, Trimble Quadri 2.x have to beupgraded to Trimble Quadri 2.2.A or later (always the latest).

Model Server 3.2 includes an upgrade of the Embedded Database Engine. As a result of this the time toperform the upgrade process may be several hours. We suggest that the upgrade process is scheduled to aweekend or another time frame where the production is on a low level. Expect several hours or even 1-2 daysdowntime for large databases.

Prerequisites to upgrade an existing Trimble Quadri server

Operating system

Trimble Quadri 3.0 may run on Windows Server 2008 R2. However Model Server 3.x will not run on WindowsServer 2008 R2. If this is the current operating system, you need to upgrade the operating system to WindowsServer 2012 R2. Apply all available Windows Updates prior to upgrading Trimble Quadri 3.0.

Backup

During the upgrade process the database will be upgraded and converted, it is essential in case of a failedupgrade to have a functional full backup of the server.

Make sure that you have full backup of the complete server. In the case the server is a virtual server it isrecommended to shut down the server and create a snapshot of the virtual server. Do not create a snapshotof a running instance. Doing this will if the snapshot is restored leave the database in an inconsistent state andthe database will fail to start.

Available disk space

The upgrade process requires that there is at least 30 % available disk space on the data and system disk.

Size of the System datafile

Some databases can have a large System datafile. Check the size of the file:"[DATADISK]:\app\QMS\oradata\QUADRI\SYSTEM01.DBF". If the file is larger than 15GB you will have tocontact Trimble support team to have the System tablespace extended with more datafiles.

Access rights

The current user that will run the installation has to be a member of the group “ora_dba”.If the user is any other than the integrated Administrator, the Security Policy: User Account Control: Run alladministrators in Admin Approval Mode must be set to Disabled.

Stop IIS

Before starting the upgrade, stop IIS, so no users can start server operations while upgrade is running. Do thisby pressing “Start”, writing “IIS” and selecting “Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager”, then select thelocalhost (the one below “Start Page”) and stop the service.

Install Model Server 3.x

Follow the steps for a new installation and Install Model Server Embedded Database and Model Server. Incase of a parallel Model Server 3.x and Trimbe Quadri 2.x installation in addition install Trimble Quadri 2.2.B

Run the Model Server Setup tool

A shortcut for Model Server Setup is placed on the desktop and in the Start menu. Launch the Model ServerSetup tool.

7. Select Update Model Server :

A dialog with disk space summary is shown.Verify that at least 15% space is available and click OK.

8. Select Update Database and click Update.

This step will do some preparational steps to prepare the Embedded Database for upgrade.

9. Select Upgrade Embedded Database and click Update.

This process may take several hours.

There will be some progress indicators during the upgrade process:

When the actual upgrade of the embedded database starts a new window will pop up and stay active untilthe database instance is upgraded.

The process will continue, the steps will be checked off as process is moving forward :

When the upgrade process is finished a log file and a dialog will be displayed.

10. Close or optional save and close the log file and click OK.

If a dialog with an error message will pop up, this is expected behaviour and is because the database listenerwill not be initialized until the server is restarted.

11. Click OK and close the Model Manager Setup tool

12. Restart the server.13. Start Model Server Setup tool and select Update Model Server.

14. Select Update Quadri Web applications and click Update:

When finished a log file will pop up.

15. Close the log file and the Model Server Setup dialog.

Delete existing hot backups

The Embedded Database is upgraded and converted to a new version. As a result of this the existinghot-backups of the database are unusable from now on, and the existing backup files have to be deleted. If notthe files will be left on the disk and the backup disk will most likely run full after a while.

16. Browse to the backup directory in File Explorer( [BACKUPDIR]\QuadriDCM\Backup )

17. Delete all files in directory(Ctrl-A, right-click - Delete)

Enable Model Server 3.x in Model Manager.

The last step is to enable Model Server 3.x in Model Manager.

18. Sign in to Model Manager with a user having administrator privileges.19. Click on Start Upgrade to Latest version.

Select Upgrade Schema Version and verify that the Current and Latest Schema version is equal and > 3100(Model Server 3.x)

Upgrade existing Model Server 3.1 / 3.2

Model Server 3.2 will upgrade an existing Model Server 3.1 / 3.2 installation.

In case of a parallel Model Server 3.x and Trimble Quadri 2.x installation, Trimble Quadri 2.x have to beupgraded to Trimble Quadri 2.1.B or later (allways the latest).

Model Server 3.2 includes an upgrade of the Embedded Database Engine. As a result of this the time toperform the upgrade process may be several hours.
