POLICIES & PROCEDURES

REGISTRATION Register online starting Thursday, June 4, 2015. Visit www.sanleandroadultschool.org.

Mail-in and walk-in registration is on a first-come, first-served basis upon receipt of brochure.

FEES AND ADMISSION English as a Second Language, Adult Basic Education, and High School Diploma classes require a $35 non-refundable, non-transferable Application Fee (cash only) due at time of registration every term (four times per year). Once admitted, if a student is dropped by the school or stops attending for one week, student must complete the Orientation again and pay another $35 Application Fee (cash only). This is not a fee for a class but a fee to process applications. No checks or credit or debit cards accepted. No refund will be given for the Application Fee. Fees for classes in other programs vary according to length and/or type of class. Some classes require the purchase of books or materials. Classes are primarily for adults 18 years or older. You do not have to live in San Leandro to attend. All teachers are credentialed or experts in their fields.

REFUNDS & RETURNED CHECKS No refund of Application Fee. No refunds of any other fees unless a class is canceled. No transfer of fees. No exceptions to this policy, so please select classes carefully. Students will be required to pay for any bank fees associated with returned checks and credit card charges before being allowed to re-enroll in classes on a CASH-ONLY basis.

INDEPENDENT STUDY & DISTANCE LEARNING REFUNDS Independent Study and Distance Learning may require a $40 cash deposit. Once materials and original receipt are returned and a Refund Request Form is completed, a check will be mailed for the entire deposit. All refunds are mailed. Allow ten business days for checks to be processed. Refunds must be requested within 1 year from last day of attendance.

VISITORS Visitors are welcome with prior approval from an administrator.

CREDIT RECOVERY STUDENTS Full-time students from San Leandro High School, Lincoln High School and Lighthouse Independent Study will be allowed to enroll in classes. Juniors and seniors interested in pursuing this option must bring their completed and signed “Permit For Credit Recovery Enrollment 2015-2016” form with a current transcript to the Adult School office at 1448 Williams St. to their scheduled appointment. This is only an option for SLUSD students. No out of district credit recovery students accepted. Credit Recovery students are minors within the K-12 system, so students must be on time and remain in class and not leave early.

COMMUNITY INTEREST PROGRAMS Classes are self-supporting and taught by experts in their fields. Please do not wait to register. Classes will be shortened or canceled if there are not enough students.

UNIFORM COMPLAINT PROCEDURE The SLUSD Board of Education has established a Uniform Complaint Procedure. It is available online at www.sanleandro.k12.ca.us, the District Office or the Adult School office.

CHILDCARE Childcare is available at some sites for children 2.9 years to kindergarten. During the evening, childcare may be available for our students’ school-age children (5-12). San Leandro Adult School requires adult learners to volunteer in childcare and parents must be in class at the site while children are in childcare. No minors allowed in classes for adults.

TRANSCRIPT POLICY Transcript requests must be made in writing with original signature. San Leandro Adult School only issues transcripts from our institution. Requests take three to five business days to process. Must present current government issued photo I.D. for example, passport, driver’s license, or state I.D. card to pick up transcripts. We do not photocopy or return transcripts from other schools.

ATTENDANCE It is expected that students will attend all class sessions, be on time and remain in class until the class ends. Students who are late or leave early on a regular basis may be dropped. Missing one week of classes is also cause for being dropped. Dropped students must re-apply and pay another Application Fee of $35. A minimum 20 hours of attendance is required before verification of attendance. (Please see page 1 for no-class dates.)

CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION

(CTE) - MEDICAL PROGRAMS

CERTIFIED NURSE ASSISTANT & HOME HEALTH AIDE A Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) is a very important member of the healthcare team working in various medical settings. Working closely with RNs and LVNs, the CNAs

help assure that patients are well-cared for. Our CNA Program also includes Home Health Aide (HHA) training at no additional cost! Home Health Aides may assist patients who live in their own homes or in residential facilities instead of in healthcare facilities. Compare & Save!

To obtain CNA/HHA certification for the $745.00 fee, both classes must be completed within the same session.

Workforce Readiness Programs

Clinical Medical Assistant: In this course you will learn to assist the physician in a clinical setting with procedures, provide care for patients, perform simple laboratory tests, practice injections and venipuncture (phlebotomy), and administer medications. This program includes 134 hours of classroom instruction (including online quizzes and activities); plus 160 hours externship in a medical facility. Tuition includes scrubs, CPR certification & national certification examination. Textbook sold separately.

Introduction to Healthcare Careers: This program prepares students to enter a Pharmacy Technician or Clinical Medical Assistant programs. His 36 hour program will emphasize appropriate medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, medical math, and drugs as related to body systems. This entry-level training program will prepare students to take the Pharmacy Technician or Clinical Medical Assistant Training Program.

Medical Office Assistant: Manage the front desk of a medical or dental office. Learn medical terminology, standard patient processing, and medical billing and customer service. Pharmacy Technician: Assist the pharmacist with mixing and packaging prescriptions, referring clients to the pharmacist for counseling, inventory control and purchasing, as well as collecting payment and coordinating billing. This program includes 182 hours of classroom instruction (including quizzes and activities online) plus 120 externship hours. Tuition includes lab coat, CPR certification, and certification examination. Textbooks sold separately.

This Apprenticeship program is offered only to Meat Clerks hired within the company. Once promoted to a Meat Apprentice, you will enter into a 2-year Apprenticeship program consisting of 144 class hours and 4,160 hours on the job work training hours. After completion, you will be certified by the State of California and will receive a certification of Journeyman status. FIELD IRONWORKER APPRENTICESHIP

Apprentices earn while they learn, working on the job alongside the Journeymen. Classes include 160 hours per year for four (4) years. Starting wages for ironworker apprentices are 50% of a journeyman's wage. Apprentices accumulate an established number of on-the-job hours plus supplemental instructional hours, wages are increased at regular intervals. Graduating apprentices attain journeyman status and begin to earn full pay.
