Additional Cap and Base Optionsfor Round Tapered Columns

The addition of the Roman Doric caps and bases to the Poly-Classic column line will provide you with the most options ever. Roman Doric cap and base are distinguished from the Tuscan by an increase of decorative moulding. The denticulated Roman Doric cap has a stepped, three fi llet support of the echinus instead of the single fi llet on a Tuscan cap. The base is similar to the Tuscan, but the addition of a bead above the torus is an elegant embellishment. A very popular option that provides the most dramatically detailed column (without using ornamental capitals) is to use the Attic base with the Roman Doric cap.

For those installations where Poly-Classic bases need to be trimmed for pitched decks, or for adding a custom look to the standard base, these platforms are the perfect addition. Made of expanded cellular PVC, they are rot proof and durable. Designed for the standard ABS base (sizes shown below), custom sizes can be special ordered.

These DO NOT add height to the column itself, but can be used to cover customer-built column supports that are in place for increased column height.

Turncraft's new TimeSaver Railing adapter Bracket solves the age old problem of attaching a railing system to the decorative base of a round column. Simply use one of these new brackets to make an attractive attachment to any of the 8", 10" and 12" round Tuscan bases. Manufactured of fi ber reinforced 100% recycled ABS, they come in two different heights to fi t just about any railing system on the market. These brackets are perfectly contoured to create a smooth mounting surface with the base plinth. No notching or major modifi cation to the base or lower rail is required.

Shipped KD as 5 pieces, the top plate is put on the column at the same time as the base. After the column is installed, the four sides assemble AROUND THE COLUMN with the Craftsman EZ-Lock joint, and the top is glued (polyurethane glue - not supplied) and pin-nailed in place. (The top is recessed to fi t the ABS Tuscan base and keep it centered on the platform.) The base should be glued to the platform and edges caulked before painting.

Quick-Fit Poly-Classic Ornamental Capitals for Round Tapered Poly-Classic Columns

Quick-Fit ornamental capitals install around the shaft. Roman Corinthian and Greek Erectheum capitals, which are taller than the shaft neck, are load bearing. Roman Ionic and Scamozzi capitals go around the shaft (which needs to be trimmed to the height of the capital PLUS 1/8" for load support when the capital is shorter than the column neck).

The 'Height Adjust' value is used to calculate overall height (OAH) of columns when using ornamental caps, adjust by the amount shown. For example, on an 8" x 96" shaft, you would add 71/16" (1039/16" OAH) for Roman Corinthian, or subtract 11/8" (947/8" OAH) for Scamozzi.

Ornamental Capitals forRound Tapered Poly-Classic Columns

The Poly/Resin capitals on pages TUR-8 and 9 are load bearing and do not require plugs. Installation typically requires trimming the column shaft at the correct location on the neck ring - see note below each photo. If your shafts were ordered at the same time as the ornamental capital, the factory may have trimmed the shaft for you. If shafts are not factory trimmed, the installer may choose to trim the shaft above the astragal rather than between the fi llet and the ring for easier installation of Empire, Greek Angular Ionic, Greek Erectheum, Roman Ionic, Roman Doric Ornamental and Scamozzi styles. Please note that due to available molds, some sizes, while they will work, may not be the best fi t aesthetically.

Designed for light weight and easy installation, this pultruded column has all the benefi ts of the Poly-Classic product line: decay resistance, load bearing and durable. This column can be easily trimmed on the jobsite.

Columns that are split for reassembly are split on the diagonal to provide larger gluing surfaces. Standard cap, base and necking for 8" columns are TimeSaver ABS. Standard cap, base and necking for 10" columns are pultruded fi berglass.

Custom lengths can be special ordered - please inquire. Columns must be painted.

Cap and base sets include neck moulding (customer installed) and installation hardware. These cap and base sets are not for use with other Poly-Classic columns due to size differences. The pultruded mouldings are factory mitered and assembled into one unit for easy installation. TimeSaver 8" sets are one-piece ABS polystyrene. 10" sets are pultruded fi berglass.

Square Poly/Resin capitals are load bearing and do not require plugs. Installation typically requires trimming the column shaft at the correct location on the neck ring - see note below each photo. If your shafts were ordered at the same time as the ornamental capital, the factory may have trimmed the shaft for you. If shafts are not factory trimmed, the installer may choose to trim the shaft above the astragal rather than between the fi llet and the ring for easier installation of Empire, Greek Angular Ionic, Greek Erectheum, Roman Ionic, Roman Doric Ornamental and Scamozzi styles. Please note that due to available molds, some sizes, while they will work, may not be the best fi t aesthetically.

The 'height adjust' value is used to calculate overall height (OAH) of columns when using ornamental caps. Please adjust by the amount shown. For example, on an 8" x 96" shaft, you would add 51/2" (1011/2" OAH) for Temple of Winds, or subtract 17/16" (949/16" OAH) for Scamozzi.

DuraStone Ornamental Capitals are all load bearing. Scamozzi and Roman Corinthian capitals are installed around the shaft, which is NOT trimmed. When installing Greek Erectheum and Roman Ionic capitals, the shaft must be trimmed to the neck ring.

The 'height adjust' column is used to calculate overall height (OAH) of columns when using ornamental caps. Please adjust by the amount shown. For example, on an 8" x 8' shaft, you would add 71/16" (1039/16" OAH) for Roman Corinthian, or subtract 11/16" (9415/16" OAH) for Scamozzi.

These capitals are NOT for non-tapered shafts. Sizes shown are estimates and subject to change without notice.

Standard Pedestal Kits for ALL Turncraft Synthetic Columns

Turncraft now has two standard profi les for column pedestals or newel posts. While originally designed for Craftsman columns, pedestals can be used to install around a round or square column★ (except wood). Typically, the pedestal is about the same width as the base of the column which will be set on it. Be sure the top platform is wider than the base being used with the column.

Standard Trim

Flat top styles have a 1" thick top platform that is 2" wider than the pedestal or newel shaft.

Width of pyramid cap will be 21/4" wider than the newel post shaft.

Colonial Wood RoundTapered Columns

Column shafts are constructed from fi nger-jointed pine staves, with a one year limited warranty if installed according to Turncraft's installation instructions. Other column sizes are available - please call for a quote.All exterior fi nger-joint Pine products manufactured by Turncraft are treated with Woodlife® 111 water repellent, which provides maximum protection against mold, mildew, staining and decaying fungi. This also increases dimensional stability and helps prevent shrinkage, swelling, and warping.

Factory applied priming and interior asphalt coating are available as added protection against moisture damage (see page TUR-45), and are required to maintain warranty.

Wood column shafts are shorter than column nominal height. Standard cap and base shipped are polyurethane; fi nger-joint pine and ornamental capitals are available options. The cap and base are load bearing and attach to the ends of the shaft, achieving the stated overall height.

All sizes of wood columns can be fl uted. Custom fl uting for your specifi c opening height is available at the standard fl uting price! Columns fl uted for use with ornamental caps will be fl uted based on the shaft being trimmed at the correct location.

Capitals for Colonial columns are LOAD-BEARING or ship with a load-bearing plug. These capitals are NOT for non-tapered shafts.If you need capitals for non tapered shafts, please contact BROSCO for available options.

The 'height adjustment' column is used to calculate overall height (OAH) of columns when using ornamental caps. Please adjust by the amount shown. For example, 8" x 96" shaft, add 3/4" (963/4" OAH) for Temple of Winds, or subtract 37/8" (921/8" OAH) for Scamozzi. This is assuming the installer trims the column shaft at the correct location on the astragal for architecturally correct installation - Ionic style capitals (Greek Erectheum, Roman Ionic, Scamozzi, Empire, Greek Angular Ionic) should be trimmed at the top fi llet, all others should be trimmed at the neck ring.

Colonial Wood RoundNon-Tapered Columns

Cap & BaseColonial polyurethane cap and base are specially designed to provide increased durability. They are load bearing, and contain no wood components to warp, rot or decay. Since the non-tapered shafts require a cap the same diameter as the base, Non-Tapered sets are two bases.

Priming and AsphaltingPriming is applied in two coats, using a specially formulated primer developed exclusively for Turncraft. The column is sanded before each coat. Asphalt coating of the shaft interior is applied on the bottom three feet of the shaft. Required to maintain warranty.

Incorporating the design characteristics and quality manufacturing you've come to expect from Turncraft Architectural, the new Traditional column line offers more home owners the classic beauty of hardwood columns. FOR INTERIOR USE ONLY!

Available both smooth and fl uted, these stylistic columns are made from Turncraft's four most popular hardwood species. Featuring an architectural entasis, the bottom 1/3 of the shaft is straight, allowing for fi eld trimming. Net shaft diameters are 3/8" less than nominal. On fl uted columns, the fl utes end 1" from the astragal and 7" from the top of the base - fl uted columns can be trimmed up to 6". Custom fl uting for an exact opening height (fl utes ending 1" above base) is available, call for price. Cap and base not available separately.

Post Trim KitThe PVC Porch Post Trim Kit is designed to wrap around the porch post and mounting (Quick-mount or Elevated Platform) for a fi nished look. Each kit contains 2 wraps - one for the top and one for the bottom, or the bottom only of two posts. Can be used with Poly-Classic Posts as well as wood. Ships fl at with only one seam to fi nish - wrap around the post, apply glue to the edge, and pin-nail joint. Apply caulk, touch-up and paint (post must be painted prior to installation).

Porch posts are turned from fi nger-jointed, kiln-dried western wood species. All turned surfaces are factory sanded.

Since moisture is one of the primary problems in fungal wood decay, Post Defense posts are factory sealed on the bottom end. The bottom end must never be trimmed for installation to ensure warranty coverage. This sealer provides an effective method of controlling moisture and inhibiting the growth of fungal decay. 100% Acrylic Primer is applied, adding to this prevention and control of moisture and fungal decay. Quick-Mount™ or other elevated platform are required on each post for warranty coverage. This 10-year limited warranty is only available in the continental USA. Posts must be painted.
