You have made a great decision to continue your educational journey at CPTC. While here, you will be greeted by friendly staff and can meet with some of our caring faculty. By 2019, two-thirds of all jobs in Washington State will require a post-secondary credential and we are committed to ensuring our students become a part of the employable workforce necessary to meet that need.While here, we will provide you with the foundation for a career and prepare you to enter the world of work as quickly as possible. Office of Student Involvement(253) 589-5780 Student Involvement is the administrative entity that advises and directs the efforts of student leadership development, student center facilities and the Associated Student G o v e r n m e n t ( A S G ) . Ser ving on ASG gives students the opportunity t o m a x i m i z e t h e i r involvement in campus l i fe. ASG employment opportunities are filled each spring through an annual hiring process. The ASG is organized as follows:

Peer AmbassadorsPeer Ambassadors increase student success, retention, and completion by providing students with opportunities to engage with students in meaningful ways that offer support, encouragement, and the resources they need to achieve their educational and personal goals.

Campus Activities Board(253) 589-5740The programming board promotes and coordinates a well-balanced program of student-initiated activities that enhance health and wellness, cultural, social, and recreational needs of the Associated Students outside the classroom aimed at enhancing student life.

Student Council(253) 589-5685This council is an advocate of the student voice and a partner with other governing units. The Student Council oversees the administration of the ASG. Council meetings, which are open to the public, are held on a regular basis while CPTC is in session.

Student Leadership & Service Center (SLSC) (253) 589-5672The SLSC is your portal to the campus, whether you are a student or community member. The student staff know what’s happening on campus, provide maps to locate particular campus locations or services, and administer the many service features and activities of the SLSC. Join us for the SLSC Live Lounge every Wednesday from 11:30AM - 12:30PM to enjoy coffee, tea, donuts, and good company. Come in every Friday from 11:00AM - 1:00PM for free popcorn and find out about current campus events.

Student Center(253) 589-5644The Sharon McGavick Student Center is where students and the campus community connect via student funded programs, and services that both enhance the quality of college life and complement the educational experience at CPTC. Students can enjoy open access to a game room, TV room, microwaves, study spaces, food options & coffee shop, retail shops, meeting & event spaces, and student leadership & involvement opportunities.

Advising/Counseling Center(253) 589-5548 Counselors/advisors are available to assist students with interpreting assessment scores, providing academic advising, and developing an education plan based on the student’s career goals. Counselors/advisors are also available to assist students with issues such as:

• Adjusting to college• Stress management• Goal setting• Study skills• Career counseling• Campus & community support• Brief personal counseling

Brief personal/crisis counseling is available free to enrolled students. Counseling is confidential and is available to address a variety of issues that may interfere with student success. Students requiring long-term assistance/on-going counseling will be referred to outside agencies.

Bookstore(253) 589-5614The Campus Bookstore (located in Bldg. 23) provides books, supplies, and toolkits for all programs as well as a wide variety of other items including CPTC logo wear, candy, snacks, beverages, and lunch items. The bookstore may operate on a reduced schedule during College breaks.

Bus Stops & PassesPierce Transit Bus 3 stops at Clover Park Technical College on Steilacoom Boulevard on a regular basis. For information regarding bus-pass purchases, please go to www.piercetransit.org.

Cash Machine, ATMA cash machine is available inside the Student Center, Bldg. 23.Change of Address(253) 589-5666Student information, admission letters, and graduation awards are frequently mailed to students, therefore, it is important to maintain your current address. Change of address forms are available in the Enrollment Services Office in Bldg. 17. You may change your own address on the College website at www.cptc.edu/mycc in “Change Contact Info” under “Information.”

Continuing Education (253) 589-5575Clover Park Technical College offers a wide variety of credit, non-credit, and skills improvement classes. EmailStudent e-mail is a free and required account provided to students as a tool for sharing important college information. Your account is created automatically within one business day of your application acceptance. Student email is the only mode of communication the college uses to send up-to-date information about campus closures, deadlines, scholarship opportunities and upcoming events. Students are responsible for checking their student email on a frequent and consistent basis. Instructions for setting up your account are sent to the email address you provided the college at time of admission. Emergency Grant Funding(253) 589-5548The CPTC Foundation awards emergency assistance to help meet urgent needs; particularly rental and utility assistance that would otherwise prevent students from continuing their education. Students may apply for emergency assistance in the Advising and Counseling Office, Bldg. 17, Room 150.

Enrollment Services provides assistance with admission, registration, add/drop documents, web registration,

application for completion awards, and other Enrollment Services. By signing the registration form or clicking

“submit” on the online registration webpage, the student agrees to be bound by CPTC policies and procedures

e-Tutoring Services(253) 589-5591 Online tutoring is available free of charge to all currently enrolled students through the Northwest e-Tutoring Consortium. The site may be accessed at www.cptc.edu/tutoring, or at www.etutoring.org.Students use their MyCC account ID and password to sign in. Staff in the tutoring center and the library computer lab are available to show students how to log on to the e-Tutoring site.

Financial Aid(253) 589-5660The Financial Aid Office provides financial assistance to students who would otherwise not be able to attend school. Financial assistance may be available to you from various sources in the form of grants, scholarships, loans, and employment. Students are responsible for all collection fees, attorney fees, and court fees in accordance with RCW 28B.10.293 and RCW 19.16.500 should they default on any financial obligations to CPTC. GraduationClover Park Technical College grants the following degrees: Associate of Applied Technology (AAT), Associate of Applied Science-Transfer (AAS-T), Associate in Pre-Nursing (DTA/MRP), Associate of Applied Technology (DTA/MRP), Bachelor of Applied Science in Manufacturing Operations, and Certificates which are not defined as degree programs. F o o d S e r v i c e sFood ServicesBreakfast, lunch and snacks are served daily on the Lakewood campus when the College is in session.

In Bldg. 23, Bon Sucre & Clover Perk Corner offer avariety of meal choices and tasty treats. Food

can also be purchased in the Bookstore.The Clover Park Technical College Culinary Arts students offer lunch in the Rainier Room, in Bldg. 31, Wednesday through Friday, from 11:15AM-12:45PM Reservations are

required at the Rainier Room (253) 589-5889.

High School Equivalency Exam(253) 589-6035 The High School Equivalency exam currently used by the State of Washington is the GED Exam. This exam is administered by appointment through the Pearson VUE Test Center on the CPTC campus. The exam consists of four sections: Reading through Language Arts (RLA), Math, Science, and Social Studies. There is a fee of $30 per section for a total exam fee of $120. To register for the exam, please visit https://ged.com.At least two sessions are necessary to complete all sections of thetest. Testers must bring a valid state photo ID on the day of testing and must be 19 years of age or older. If you are between the ages of 16-18, follow the instructions to test with an Underage Release. Please bring the appropriate release form to building 10 room 214. For more information visit www.cptc.edu/equivalency, or call (253) 589-6035.

HousingThe College does not provide or arrange housing or transportation for students. Several apartment complexes are located near the College campus. Arrangements for housing and transportation are the responsibility of the student.

We strive to provide personalized services and attention to all our customers and respond to your inquiries

Library / Learning Resource Center(253) 589-5544 (253) 589-5820 - Computer LabThe Library/Learning Resource Center (LRC) is located in Bldg. 15 on the Lakewood Campus. The Library/Computer Lab is open Mon.-Thurs. from 7:00AM to 7:00PM, on Fri. from 7:00AM to 4:00PM, and on Sat. from 9:30AM to 2:30PM.

By serving as an advocate for students of color and providing information, resources and support from how to navigate the educational process to accessing services to enhance student success, Multicultural Student Services is here to support you. Programs and activities are offered to promote cultural awareness and competence. We support a campus environment that is inclusive, safe, and welcoming for all students. Multicultural Student Services is located in Building 19, Room 109.

Notary Public(253) 589-4313This service is available free to staff and students. Bldg. 17, Room 104.

Opportunity Grant/BFET Programs(253) 589-5957The Opportunity Grant and BFET programs are funding sources to assist low income students in selected programs with meeting their educational financial expenses. The Opportunity Grant provides tuition assistance and funding to help pay for books, supplies, and other expenses that help remove barriers to education. Please contact the Opportunity Grant/BFET Office at (253) 589-5957 for more information.

Parking(253) 589-5557Clover Park Technical College students do not need a parking sticker for their car. The white striped areas are designated for student parking. Yellow striped areas are restricted to carpools, the disabled, authorized staff, and visitors. Vehicles improperly parked on campus are subject to a $10 fine for each offense (non-registered vehicles, parking in unauthorized areas, blocking or obstructing traffic, and parking in fire lanes and tow-away zones) and can be towed at the owner’s expense. Parking in a designated handicapped space without a state-issued handicapped parking permit carries a campus fine of $75 or $280 if cited by the Lakewood Police Department.Students who violate driving or parking rules may be required to leave their vehicles off campus. Clover Park Technical College is not responsible for damage or loss to vehicles parked on the campus.

Pearson VUE Test Center(253) 589-6035The Pearson VUE Test Center at Clover Park provides testing for many industry-standard IT certifications and select professional licensure exams. We offer both weekday and evening hours to provide students and community members the flexibility they need in today’s busy world. With tests such as GED, WEST, Cisco, Comp-TIA, and more, we can help you take the next step in your educational or career plans. To register for an exam, visit www.pearsonvue.com/programs and select the relevant test program from the Test Taker Services section. Next, select “Schedule a Test” on the right-hand side of the page. For same-day appointments, please call 253-589-6035 or stop by the center with the name of the exam you need to take and we can determine if you are same-day eligible. The center is located in building 10, Room 214.

RefundsExceptions to the refund policy must be requested in writing to the Director of Enrollment Services before the last day of the quarter in which payment was made. A Petition for Refund Exception Form is available in the Enrollment Services Office in Bldg. 17. Detailed information and supporting documents must be attached.

Student ID Cards(253) 589-5557Student ID’s are available in Building 23 at the Security Office during posted hours. Beginning Fall quarter, Student ID’s are scheduled to be distributed by the Office of Student Involvement and the Student Leadership & Service Center during regularly scheduled hours of the center. The first Student ID is complimentary. Replacement ID’s cost $5 and should be paid at the cashiers’ window in Building 17. Picture ID and CPTC Student ID number are required to be issued a Student ID Card.

Student Insurance(253) 589-5548Information about obtaining accident and health insurance is available from the Advising/Counseling Office in Bldg. 17, Room 150.

Student Printing(253) 589-5544Print and fax machines are available inside the Learning Resource Center (Bldg. 15) for the convenience of students. A nominal fee is charged for each print, copy or fax. Pay-for-print cards are available for purchase in the library.

Work study jobs are available on and off campus for students enrolled in an eligible program. Positions are handled by the

Financial Aid Office. Work study positions are related to a student’s career training. A student may work up to a maximum of 19 hours per week. Amount available is dependent on student’s calculated

need. Earnings range from $200 - $4,000 per school year.

Transcripts(253) 589-5666A transcript is a copy of a student’s academic record and is released only with written permission of the student. All students are eligible to receive a transcript if they have met their financial obligations to the College. A $7.25 processing fee is charged for each transcript. Transcript requests are made through the National Student Clearinghouse. Forms are available at www.cptc.edu/mycc in the “Transcripts & Graduation” section. Students may obtain an unofficial copy of their transcript at www.cptc.edu/mycc under “Transcripts & Graduation.”

Tutoring Center (253) 589-5591Staff and peer tutors are available to provide one-on-one and small group assistance in math, writing skills, and some specialized areas such as calculus, statistics, accounting, anatomy and physiology. This is a drop-in center and a free service to currently enrolled students. No appointments are needed. The tutoring center is closed on non-instructional days. Veterans (253) 589-5581If you have been honorably separated from the U.S. armed services within the last 24 months, you may be eligible for free tuition and related expenses through Worker Retraining funds. To get your Veterans benefits started, visit the VA certifying official located in Bldg. 17. Visit the Veterans Resource Center located in Bldg. 22, Room 121, Monday-Friday from 9:00AM-4:00PM for guidance to resources within the community and at CPTC.

The College website at www.cptc.edu will announce closures or delays using banners on the main page and the notification system CPTC Warn (see emergency management section of the website to sign up) will push messages to subscribers as well. Worker Retraining(253) 589-5961 or (253) 589-5541Worker Retraining is a special financial aid grant created by the Washington State Legislature to assist dislocated/unemployed workers, displaced homemakers, veterans, or vulnerable workers who need their skills upgraded to remain employed. WorkFirst (253) 589-5503WorkFirst is a program that supports students receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families from the Department of Social and Health Services. TANF students can participate in job skills training at Clover Park Technical College and receive tuition and book assistance, academic support, GED preparation classes, and High Wage High Demand courses. 18Academic Standards

Academic StandardsThe primary purpose of academic standards is to provide guidance in academic processes and procedures, which govern student progress through programs of study. Please visit our website for current details concerning grading and schedule changes.

Classroom ConductInstructors have the authority to take appropriate action to maintain order and proper conduct in the classroom and to maintain the effective cooperation of the class in fulfilling the objectives of the course.Any student who creates a disruption that makes it unreasonably difficult to maintain the learning and teaching environment or decorum of a class or activity may be suspended by the instructor from the class or activity for each day of disruption.

Academic Standards

Attendance PolicyAttendance PolicyThe student is expected to attend all classes for which

the student is registered in order to gain the maximum benefit. The instructor may establish an attendance

policy for the program. It is the responsibility of the student to know and comply with the policy.

Programs having established attendance policies will include relevant information in course syllabi.

A student who does not attend the first two class sessions and/or comply with the established attendance policy

for the class or program may forfeit the right to continue and may be subject to administrative withdrawal.

19 Academic Standards

DishonestyHonest assessment of student performance is of crucial importance to all members of the College community. Acts of dishonesty are serious breaches of honor and shall be dealt with in the following manner:It is the responsibility of the College administration and faculty to provide reasonable and prudent security measures designed to minimize opportunities for acts of dishonesty which occur at the College. Dishonesty is prohibited, including:

Academic dishonestyAny act of academic dishonesty, including cheating, plagiarism, and fabrication.

• Cheating includes any attempt to give or obtain unauthorized assistance relating to the completion of an academic assignment or requirement.

• Plagiarism includes taking and using as one’s own, without proper attribution, the ideas, writings, or work of another person in completing an academic assignment or requirement.

• Fabrication includes falsifying data, information, or citations in completing an academic assignment or requirement, or providing false or deceptive information to an instructor concerning the completion of an assignment or requirement, including submitting for credit without authorization academic work also submitted for credit in another course.

This section shall not be construed as preventing an instructor from taking immediate disciplinary action when the instructor is required to act upon such breach of dishonesty in order to preserve order and prevent disruptive conduct in the classroom. This section shall also not be construed as preventing an instructor from adjusting the student’s grade on a particular project, paper, test, or class grade for dishonesty.

Loss of Eligibility/Student ParticipationAny student found to have violated Chapter 69.41 RCW, illegal drugs, by virtue of a criminal conviction or by final decision of the College President or designee shall, in lieu of or in addition to any other disciplinary action which may be imposed, be disqualified from participation in any school-sponsored events or activities.

Right to Demand IdentificationFor the purpose of determining whether probable cause exists for the application of any section of this code to any behavior by any person on a College facility, any College personnel or other authorized personnel may demand that any person on College facilities produce identification.

Handbook PolicyThe student handbook provides an overview of the College’s policies and services for enrolled students. We make every effort to convey accurate information, however, the College’s programs and activities may change without notice. This document is not intended to create a contractual obligation.

Distribution of InformationHandbills, leaflets, newspapers, and similar materials may be sold or distributed free of charge by any student(s), or by members of recognized student organizations, by College employees on/in College facilities at locations specifically designated by the President or designee (provided such distribution or sale does not interfere with the ingress or egress of persons or interfere with the free flow of vehicular or pedestrian traffic). Such handbills, newspapers, leaflets, and related matter must bear identification as to the publishing agency and distributing organization or individual.All non-students shall register with the President or designee prior to the distribution of any handbill, leaflet, newspaper or related matter. Any person or persons who violate the provisions of paragraphs above will be subject to disciplinary action.

Drug-Free EnvironmentClover Park Technical College aims for a drug-free environment. Use, possession, delivery, sale, or being observably under the influence of alcohol, marijuana, or any legend drug is a violation of the Code of Student Conduct and subject to disciplinary action.

Free Movement on CampusThe President or designee is authorized in the instance of any event that he/she deems impedes the movement of persons or vehicles or which he/she deems to disrupt the ingress or egress of persons from the College facilities to prohibit the entry of, withdraw the license of, or privileges of a person(s) or any group of persons to enter onto or remain upon any portion of the College facilities.
