Mission and Program Description *WHAT WE BELIEVE – OUR MISSION

Parents are ultimately responsible for their child’s education and can serve as primary teachers.

Parents have an opportunity to partner with public and private education programs to provide the

best possible education in a safe, professional, family­friendly place.

The HomeConnection mission is to build a partnership with families to enrich each child’s learning experience.

That is enacted within the framework of the OHSD mission statement: Oak Harbor School District -

A Caring Community Educating Every Student for Success.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM

HomeConnection provides families of K - 12 students the opportunity to combine the best aspects of home learning

and public schools resources. HomeConnection students are enrolled in the Oak Harbor School District. HC families will

communicate on a regular basis with an experienced advisor who is knowledgeable in schooling at home, setting goals,

developing objectives, recommending resources, and assessing progress. A Written Student Learning Plan (WSL) is the

joint product of a HC Advisor and the family. It specifies the course materials, learning goals, learning materials,

learning activities, and learning evaluation of students for the school year.

HomeConnection is an Alternative Learning Experience (ALE) school authorized through the Washington Administrative

Code (WAC) 392­121­182. Enrollment is open to children who have successfully schooled at home. An Out-of District

Transfer Form is required for each student that is not a resident of the Oak Harbor School District. Enrolled students

have access to programs and services in the OHSD. Students are considered for admission to Home Connection without

regard to religion, ethnicity, gender or disability.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT

Parents, through their personal commitments of time, energy, service, and spirit, are integral to the vitality of

HomeConnection. We look forward to their classroom involvement, office help, field trip assistance, committee service,

etc. If you are able to help, please see our office assistant, advisor or HC principal. If you are already doing so, thank

you for serving your children, other families, and our staff.

WINGS

WINGS is an on­line program used for Student Learning Plans (SLP), Monthly Reviews, stipend record keeping, availing

high school credit records to parents, registration for classes, contacting instructions, and families and making

assignment and grade information. Wings may be accessed by parents and students.

All parent and family contact information is available on WINGS. To email HC staff or other parents please use the

“People-Directory” option on the left side of the main screen. Parents may OPT out of releasing family information by

asking HC office staff or advisors for assistance.

Enrollment

Families may contact or visit HomeConnection with questions about potential enrollment. The first step is an initial

visit with the HC principal. Admission is dependent on successfully schooling at home (excluding Kindergarten). There

must be evidence of the ability, knowledge, and skills to successfully school at home, prior to enrollment.

Children That Have Successfully Schooled At Home a Minimum of 90 Calendar Days:

Complete the Enrollment Packet. Enrollment packet includes a. OHPS Registration Handbook – one for each student. Note - immunization exemptions must be signed

by health care provider. b. Family Information “peach” card, c. Declaration of Understanding, d. Declaration of Intent to Provide Home-Based Instruction e. Out-of-district transfers must complete the Inter-district Transfer form.

Orientation with the principal or advisor to cover the Parent Handbook & WINGS or attend the New Family Registration & Orientation Meeting. (May or August).

If necessary, withdraw from your former school.

Work with an advisor to complete a Written Student Learning Plan (WSLP)

Enroll in HC classes.

Children That Have Not Schooled At Home For Ninety Calendar Days:

1. Complete a Declaration of Intent to Provide Home-Based Instruction., available from the OHSD Administrative Center. A 90­day period begins on the date noted on this form. Students are not enrolled in HC during the 90­day period. Families can determine if home schooling is a good fit.

2. Parents must create and implement instructional plans. Ask HC principal or advisor for informal advise, tips, hints, and resource ideas.

3. Parents begin home schooling. Parents must maintain copies of plans and dated student work samples. Parents must document all supervised instruction

4. After 90 consecutive days of successful homeschooling, meet with the HC Principal. Bring complete samples of your schooling – teacher planning materials and student work (especially in reading, writing, and math).

5. If admitted; complete the steps of admission, above (steps A - E, in the first section on this page).

FAMILY SUPPORT TEAM (FST)

The Family Support Team (FST) is made of parents and staff members. It supports HC through its advisory and decision-making roles. Members are appointed on a volunteer basis by FST vote. Meetings are held on an “as needed” basis including at the start and end of each school year. To enter items on the FST agenda, visit or email any FST member.

PROGRAM ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES

HomeConnection has an open campus policy. This means:

Supervision of students at HC, other than when under an instructor’s supervision in a HC class,

is the responsibility of parents. This is especially important in the hallways, computer lab, Family

Room, outside of HC on school grounds, playgrounds, and traveling to and from HC. Instructors

will dismiss students at the end of each class period. It is a parent responsibility to have made

arrangements for their child so that the child is taken care of at that time. MS/HS students, with no

required parent on campus, have their presence on campus dependent on appropriate behavior and

following both written rules and common sense understandings of what is right and wrong.

Families must work with an advisor to complete a WSLP for each student.

Take responsibility for providing instruction in accordance with the Written Student Learning Plan (WSLP) and WA State law.

Hourly requirements for all students include weekly instruction of 25 hours for grade 4 and up, 20 hours for grades 1 - 3, and 10 hours for kindergarten. Hourly requirements include at-home and HC instruction.

Monthly Reviews must be submitted for all students from the 1st – 7th of each month or students will be removed from HC rolls for a period no less than 30 days. The second time this happens in a school year, it will be for two months. The third time will be for the rest of the school year. An

exception to this may be given by the school principal, in the case of high school credits. Parents must be on-site with students from grades K-5 at all times. Parents may designate another parent to be

responsible for their student(s). Parents must fill out “Designated Parent” sheet in the office EACH time they leave campus.

The Weekly Bulletin is the primary method of communication with families. Read it!!!

Make sure children on time to class. Please call HC office staff if child will be tardy or absent. (360) 279-5900. Without a valid reason, students who attend less than 75% may be contacted by an advisor and those who attend less than 50% can be withdrawn.

Parents and students must be aware of and meet homework expectations from HC on-site classes.

Weekly contact with a certificate HC instructor is required, accomplished in any HC on-site class.

New families have a required meeting with their advisor in October and early in the second semester. Parents may ask for a meeting with advisor anytime. HC Advisors are here to help!

Return re-useable educational materials purchased with allocation as soon as possible. Other HC families and

students may need to use them. Please return all materials to the library.

Parents should tell HC instructor and advisors of any special needs the students requires.

Parents are encouraged to attend classes with your student. Anytime!

If you have a preference or want a change of advisor, make it known to the principal by early Aug.

Students must be taught state required subjects, including HIV/AIDS. PE is a required class at the elementary

level. Full time students must have PE on their SLP.

The OHSD, including HC, assesses student progress with the HSPE, MSP, and EOC’s in grades 3,-8 & 10. Participation in testing is required for all HC students with an FTE above 0.8.

o Families also have voluntary access to grades 3–10 ITBS/ITED tests in March. Part-time students must be annually assessed, not necessarily through state assessments.

SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICE

Special education services noted on an existing IEP are provided through the OHSD. Services are provided at the school

of record- where a child would go to school if part of a traditional OHSD school. See your advisor for assistance in

obtaining these and other ancillary services. Transportation is a family responsibility.

MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL

HomeConnection offers middle and high school core classes, which are a hybrid of school and home instruction. They

focus on core areas of English/Lit./Writing, Math, Science, History, Technology and PE. These options are fully

explained in our HC Middle/High School Handbook, available on our website, and are for grades 6 and up.

New MS or HS HomeConnection student must take an entrance exam for math and English. The entrance exam is given

in June and again in August/September. A certain level of proficiency is required for entrance in MS or HS core classes.

Please contact your advisor for assistance.

Each semester middle & high school grade point averages (GPAs) are calculated. Grades include core/credit classes and

Fit for Life. Students who earn a 3.5 or higher GPA, are recognized as Honor Roll Student. Student Government honors

them with a special event (breakfast, Ice Cream Social, etc.). This is simply to say, “WELL DONE!!!!”

RUNNING START AT SKAGIT VALLEY COLLEGE

The Running Start Program is a partnership of local districts and Skagit Valley College, allowing area high school

aged students to participate in community college classes, working towards high school and/or college graduation

requirements. As originally established by the FST, a significant part of the mission of HC is to prepare students for

Running Start. Running Start requires a middle and high school program which works to prepare students for college by

the end of tenth grade. This requires demanding coursework. Through the Running Start Program, local school districts

pay student tuition for courses that are 100 levels and above. Student eligibility to take 100 level classes is determined

by their test scores on the Compass Reading, Writing and Math tests. Although the district pays tuition, students are

required to buy books, supplies, materials, and to pay lab fees. If you are interested in Running Start, please speak with

your advisor or the HC Principal.

ISLAND TRANSIT Island Transit delivers students to Clover Valley Elementary (CVE) at 8:15 A.M. Island Transit

does not service CVE on Fridays. Student riders must inform bus driver that they need to get off at Clover Valley School.

Information is available at (360) 678­7771. Option #2 is for information. Children 6 and under must be accompanied by

an adult or guardian.

VISITORS WELCOME

Visitors are WELCOME at HomeConnection. Families interested in participation may be able to visit or attend a few

classes in order to gain a clearer picture of HC. Contact the principal 279-5901 for more information.

REGISTRATION FOR CLASSES

Registration for first semester classes is held in May, second semester classes in January. Parents come to school to

register children for classes. Participation in registration depends on timely completion and turning in of the Class

Determination Survey. Grade levels, class size limits, entry date requirements and class prerequisites are pre-

determined by instructors and school staff

Families are given course, instructor and schedule information beforehand. Registration is prioritized as follows:

1) Previous semester Waiting List (at parent request) a) A waiting list is available to reserve a position in the class. If a spot becomes available, grade-eligible students

will be placed in current semester class. OR waiting list students will be offered first position in next semester’s class by parent request. Parent must notify office staff to be placed on waiting list. Parents may add student to waiting list through the first two weeks of a semester, only if the class is full. HC Principal may add an additional class if a waiting list becomes too large. All additional classes are at principal’s discretion. Parents are responsible to keep an eye on class waiting lists for their students. Please remind/ask office staff for assistance if a class position opens.

2) Instructors’ Children. a) HC instructors may register their own K - 5 children before registration day, for classes held during times when

the instructor is teaching class. 3) Seniority-determined registration, Family registration order is determined by the original, continued enrollment

date of each family a) Previous participation in a class series (6th Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, etc.), b) Children may be enrolled for up to 6 hours of classes. c) High school students have no limit on the number of courses they may sign up for; however, ALL courses they

sign up for MUST be for high school credit. d) Middle school students who sign up for 8.5 or more hours of core/credit classes during seniority signup, may not

sign up for noncore classes at that time unless the class is a potential credit class. 4) Open registration 5) Exception Forms

1) Parents must fill out Exception form. 2) Parents give form to advisor for approval and signature. 3) Advisor contacts instructor for approval and signature. If both approve and sign, the exception becomes

possible after the open enrollment period. Grade level students have priority in exception instances. Advisors must complete the process. In most instances, students taking a class for the first time are given preference over students repeating a class. Every other year is the maximum number of times a student may repeat a class, unless an exception form is used

Generally, class size is set for minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12. Secondary core/credit classes are set for maximum of 16. HC principal must grant approval for any deviations. These numbers can vary according to enrollment and budget constraints. If enrollment drops below the needed level, a class may be dropped from the schedule at any time, at the principal’s discretion

Families have the first two weeks of a semester to add or drop courses. A drop after two weeks may cost $25 per class, per student. The fee can be deducted from allocation funds at the advisor’s discretion. If a student misses too many classes their advisor may withdraw them from the class and apply the $25 drop fee. This is especially true when the class is full and/or has waiting list.

Many criteria are taken into account in the process of presenting potential classes for registration, including parent/student interest, commitment to continuing classes ( “for credit” and core classes), availability of instruction for students, and, a cost comparison of similar instruction through vendors.

FACILITY USE

HomeConnection shares the Clover Valley School with early childhood programs of the OHSD and Head Start,

collectively called Hand In Hand. The west entrances of the Clover Valley School are HC entrances.

The west side of the building is the HC side. HC parking is in the yellow lines in back and red lines in front. Please do not

park in the white lines in front of HomeConnection. HC has a large playground area which includes mowed areas to the

west and south of HC, west of the yellow playground unit, as well as the paved area by the HC portable classroom. The

HC playground does not include the parking lot. Playground areas are not to be used for bike riding. Skate-boarding is

not allowed on any district facilities at any time. The wooded areas, not mowed and mowed areas to the east of the HC

building are not part of HC. HC students and adults are not to be there.

Pets are not to be on the premises. Exceptions may be made for show and tell or teacher/principal approved purposes.

Lunchroom – Meals and Drinks

Snack and meals may be eaten in the Family Room or the outdoor area anytime. Hot lunch is available in the

Gymnasium. Families may eat lunch in gymnasium only during designated lunch times. The Kitchen Room is s available

to adults when classes are not in session.

Please use lunch money drop off box outside HC office to pre- pay for lunch. HC staff does not handle lunch money.

Lunch codes are provided in WINGS as student ID. Parents wanting a code should ask lunch staff.

Flavored drinks (not water) are OK for adults at anytime and anyplace. Flavored drinks are allowed on non-carpeted

areas for students. No drinks are allowed in the library OR next to computers. Only classroom teachers may give

flavored drinks to students in carpeted areas.

HC building hours:

The building is officially open at 8:00 a.m. Generally, a HC staff member is on campus earlier. Students may enter

earlier with HC staff permission. The building is closed at 4:00 p.m. Please ask HC staff for special accommodations.

INCLEMENT WEATHER/OTHER SCHOOL CLOSURES

In case of inclement weather/school closure call the Emergency Telephone Communications Number @

(360)­279­5060 between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM. The hotline offers the latest information regarding weather

delays or cancellations.

If OHSD runs one hour late, HC classes will begin at 9:30 a.m. Classes before 9:30 are cancelled.

If OHSD runs two hours late, HC classes will begin at 10:30 a.m. Classes before 10:30 are cancelled.

Allocation

HomeConnection will purchase educational supplies, services and materials THAT CLEARLY support the goals and

expectations of a student’s WSLP for the current school year. Unspent allocation does not “disappear into a black hole.”

Funds stay in the HomeConnection budget and are used for expenses of the school.

Allocation funds must be spent through a HC purchase order, from Sept. 1 through April 30.

Proposed expenditures must be directed towards the Student Learning Plan.

Allocation funds are part of a parental responsibility. Families must keep track of allocation amount and are not to exceed allocation limits. Families may view allocation expenditures and balance in WINGS.

HC principal has final authority on allocation expenditures, including refunds to HomeConnection when families have overspent. Consequences of exceeding allocation limits are at the principal’s discretion.

Allocation amounts are pro-rated based on student’s (FTE) status and months of HC enrollment. a. Kindergarten is $175 per full time student. b. Grades 1-12 is $350 per full time student

i. Every hour of weekly instruction in a MS or HS credit/core class results in $25 deduction 1. Maximum deduction for Middle School is $200 per school year 2. Maximus deduction for High School is $250 per school year

Families may use half of their allocation per semester. Parents may ask advisors to override semester limit.

Proposed materials must be something HC can reasonably store. Storage space is limited.

The Barton Reading/Spelling Program is provided for only the cost of tiles, Cost is 10$ per level from allocation.

Items must have good potential to be used by other families in the future. a. Items purchased with allocation funds will be entered in library inventory and checked out to parents.

i. Items are property of Oak Harbor School District. b. Items must be checked back into library inventory at end of semester or year.

i. Consumable items (i.e. workbooks) do not need to be checked in or out.

To arrange for expenditure of allocation, parents complete a Purchase Order Request and turn it in to their advisor. Pink

PO forms are found in the parent mailboxes. PO orders must be a minimum of $35. After advisor and principal

approval, orders will be processed by HC office staff then by OHSD staff. When the items are received at HC, a notice will

be placed in the family mailbox. Delivery times of items may vary. Please plan accordingly. Please, do not call vendors.

“Not to Exceed” PO’s must be used within 30 days of the Purchase Order date or the PO will be cancelled. Please

provide a receipt to the school secretary ASAP after purchase. Failure to do so may result in losing the opportunity to

use “Not to Exceed POs

“Hand Carry POs” are provided to family on a case by case basis. Parents must purchase item using PO and then bring

receipt to HC office staff. Without a receipt, HC is unable to pay the PO bill.

Launching Success Store visits happen twice a year. HC staff will be on-site at Launching Success in Bellingham, WA to

handle POs. Parents may pre-order items from Launching Success for pickup that night. Ask HC staff for details.

SPECIAL NOTE: Items NOT to be purchased with allocation funds

Faith based materials (Saxon math is OK) General supplies (paper, pens printer ink, etc.)

Computers Rented material (instruments etc.)

Personal use items (karate uniform, athletic shoes etc.) Team registration fees (soccer, baseball etc.)

Computer Expectations

The Oak Harbor School District assumes that internet use is part of the educational program (see district use policy). If

you do not want your child to use the internet in school please complete the district “Opt-Out” form and return to Mr.

Ross.

Many computers and peripherals are available for student use. For a personal tour and demonstration of proper use of

the lab including Mac computers and cameras, please contact Mr. Ross (360) 279-5904.

Students who use the lab equipment inappropriately and do not follow expectations will find consequences for doing

so. This includes not being allowed to use the lab for a week or more, or not at all. The determination is up to the

advisors and/or principal.

PHOTOCOPIER/COMPUTER PRINTING

Families have access to a school photocopier which requires a user identification number. It tracks the number and

types of copies made, billing the copying cost to a family’s allocation. Cost is 8 cents for black and white and 16 cents for

color. See the school office to get user id.

Internet Games A few “educational game” sites are provided on the HomeConnection home page. These are

intended to be used for a short period of time by students to take a break from schoolwork. Games may be played

during lunch time (11:25-12:00), or after 3:00pm with no time restraint. Please keep computer disruptions to a

minimum. A big crowd (3+ students) around a computer causes a distraction for our library work environment.

Websites Many outstanding web sites can be beneficial for use in a student’s educational program. See the web

links on our home page from www.ohsd.net and suggested websites are also included on Wings.

Problem Websites Video streaming or other video sites such as YouTube, music downloads such as

Spotify, any software downloads, guns or sites that promote weapons and/or violence, risky, vulgar, inappropriate

language, or sexually implied sites should not be accessed.

WHEN FINISHED

1. Log off. 2. If you have used headsets, place them on top of the window ledge or on the computer. 3. Notify Mr. Ross or other staff with any computer problems. 4. Clean up your area and take all materials and trash with you.

HC LIBRARY

Mrs. Cash is our library coordinator. Volunteers are important in our library!! If books or service to others are your gift,

please see her! Ideas for our library? Share them with Mrs. Cash or our principal. Library books come from school

funds and donations. The average hardback library book costs about $20. It is critical that books are returned in a timely

manner, in good condition well read! Each is a wasted resource when not being read and unavailable for check out.

Valued volunteers run our library. Join them! HC staff and volunteers welcome suggestions!! Our library focuses on quality of literature. We’re always working on the quantity part! School funds/donations provide books, averaging $20 each. Take good care of them!! Use only HomeConnection preloaded computer software. Our goal is to have the library open, run by volunteers, during most or all school hours. Printing is expensive. Use as needed. A quiet, study atmosphere is kept. For group learning projects, coeval activities, and younger children, other

rooms are available. This includes the Family Room. Clearly marked, educational books of a religious or sectarian nature are allowed, according to personal choice of

our families. A committee is responsible for selection of books. This group includes our library volunteers & principal. Use headphones for software and internet use requiring sound. For lab issues, write problems in the book located in the lab. Mr. Ross is responsible for the lab. No listening on­line. It uses too much bandwidth. (i.e. music) The lost and found is kept in the library. Items will be donated to a local thrift store at the end of each semester,

EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES

HomeConnection has many books and other educational resources which can be used by all HC families. As families

return non-consumable materials they have purchased with allocation, HC library resources grow and grow. Families will

find resources covering many subject areas and grade levels. These are consistently checked out, especially after the

first week of school.

HC librarians will assist you in resources checkout. Parents and students must know their WINGS login to check out

library resources. If no librarian is present, parents or students should fill out a “check out slip” found on the library

checkout desk. HC office staff may also assist in check out when the librarian is unavailable. Parents may view all library

activity in WINGS.

The Oak Harbor School District does not assist private, for­profit vendors. Family mailboxes, weekly bulletins,

and other district equipment, facilities, or publications cannot be used for advertising, If families want to spread

the word about an event, product, etc. a copy of information you provide can be posted on the entry bulletin

board provided for that purpose.

The OHSD seeks to provide a safe and health learning environment for students and families. The district

strives to use an ecological approach to controlling unwanted vegetation and insects. Interested person may

request notification prior to any proposed pesticide application. See your school’s principal for more

information.

STUDENT DRESS & APPEARANCE

Dress and appearance must not present health or safety problems, or cause disruption. Students (and adults) are

expected to come to school or school activities well-groomed, neatly and appropriately dressed. All students must wear

shoes. Clothing that carries a sexual, vulgar, or offensive message or references the use of alcohol, tobacco, drugs or

gang affiliation will not be permitted. Suggestive clothing (bare midriff, short skirts, spaghetti straps, exposed

undergarments, or “cracks” showing) are not permitted. Individual teachers, in consultation with the school principal,

may restrict appearance and attire with special consideration for safety and health issues. Students who do not meet

these standards will be asked to return home to correct the problem. The principal interprets these standards and may

make changes to the above dress code as he/she feels is needed for safety, health, or disruption reasons.

POSITIVE STUDENT BEHAVIOR

HomeConnection rules are: *1. Treat all people with respect. *2. Do your best. 3. be safe.

Our students consistently act in a manner which parents and staff can be very proud of. It is our strong

desire to continue the pattern of excellence. Instructors will communicate acceptable classroom expectations and

routines to parents and students.

Instructors are responsible for, and in charge of, their classrooms. Students who do not follow instructor routines and

expectations can be dismissed from class immediately at the discretion of the instructor. Beginning the second time a

student is removed from one or any combination of HC classes in a semester, the principal may require a parent to be

present at HC when the student is in class, or in each class with their student. The third time a student is dismissed from

any one class in semester the student may be removed from that class roster by the principal for the remainder of the

semester, a minimum of two months.

When classroom problems arise the first attempt to resolve the problem will be made at the student-teacher level. The

instructor may communicate concerns to parents at this time. If no improvement is noted, teacher contact with the

parents is to be made. If needed, a meeting of the student, teacher and parent will be arranged and a course of action

will be agreed upon. If problems continue the advisor is to be involved. A meeting, set by the advisor, will involve

parents, students, and advisor. A course of action will be set.

If problems continue the principal will be contacted by the advisor and issues will be addressed in a meeting with the

parent, student, advisor, and principal. If this does not solve the issue the student will be asked to leave the class and

the parent will work with the advisor to adjust the WSLP as needed.

The by-passing of some or all of these steps, and consequences appropriate to the misbehavior can be implemented by

the principal at any time, as he/she sees is appropriate. This includes the possibility of a parent being required to

accompany their child at all times when on campus, including to classes, for a length of time determined by the HC

principal.

HC is an academic institution. Boy/girl interactions beyond normal friendships when off school grounds are up to

parents and students. While at HomeConnection Public Displays of Affection (PDA), inordinate time

spent together, and other personal involvements are inappropriate.

No guns or weapons, in part or whole, real or “toy,” are allowed in school, without permission from the principal.

HEALTH SERVICES

Each year, vision and hearing testing are provided for students, if parents choose to participate. Dates and times are

given on the HC School Calendar. Some students have health issues which are life-threatening. These issues are to be

noted in the appropriate place on the Student Health Card, completed (or updated) when parents register their children

each year. These issues are confidentially provided to all instructors and staff members. Instructors are reminded to

share them with substitutes

SAFETY DRILLS / INFORMATION

Upon hearing the fire (evacuation) alarm, everyone should proceed to the nearest exit. Exit routes are posted inside of

each room. Instructors will lead their classes to the nearest exit. Students, parents, and other children not in class, are

to exit the building from the nearest exit, following the traffic of exiting classes. Please remain quiet to hear instructions

given.

In the case of an earthquake or earthquake drill, follow instructions given by the over the intercom. Get under a desk,

table, or other solid cover. Stay away from glass, fixtures, furniture that could fall. Stay there until directed to do

otherwise. Do NOT leave the building. If outside, do NOT enter the building. Stay away from building walls, power

lines, trees, or anything that could fall on you.

LOCKDOWNS

Lockdowns are announced over the intercom –Everyone must follow directions given. Parents should not go student’s classroom. Please get to the closet lockable room quickly.

Lockdown practices are held for instructors. Their steps are as follows. 1. Locking the door, covering all windows with shades/blinds. 2. Report location of children to HC staff. This depends on the location of the problem situation. 3. Wait for “all clear” with code notification from a staff member.

PARTICIPATION IN HOMECONNECTION

Each month advisors evaluate the over-all progress of all HC students. The process of setting up and beginning WSLP’s

with students and parents, weekly face-to-face contact with students, and WINGS entries of on-site class instructors will

form the basis of September’s over-all student progress evaluation. Monthly advisor evaluations of student progress

will then continue on WINGS, the 1st through the 7th day of each month, October through June.

The instructor of each WSLP class, whether on-or off-site, will evaluate student progress in that class each month of

attendance. These Monthly Progress Reviews will be completed on WINGS and are due from the 1st – 7th of each

month, October – June. Reviews of student progress in September, will be completed from the 1st – 7th of October,

covering progress from the first day of school through Sept. 31. The rest of the reviews of the school year will follow

this process and equivalent dates.

If 40% or more of a student’s WSLP course hours are evaluated as “N” or unsatisfactory on monthly reviews, the advisor

will meet with the parent and student. They will complete and follow the HC Intervention plan included at the end of

this handbook no later than the 10th of the month. The second time it happens during the same school year, the same

process will be repeated. The third time it happens during the school year, the student will be removed from the

alternative learning experience (HC). Enrollment of the student in another educational program offered by the school

district or other option of the parent’s choice will be completed.
