Whats on the horizon for Tabernacle

    By NICK COHENThe Sun

As the remains of stale Christ-mas cookies and unopened fruit-cakes get thrown away, New Yearsresolutions begin to break and kidsanxiously count the days untilspring break begins, we take a lookat what residents can expect in2015.

    The new year should bring

new construction around Taberna-cle, as the township committee ap-proved a bond ordinance appropri-ating $850,000 for capital improve-ments throughout the township.

Though the numbers were not fi-nalized, township administratorDoug Cramer estimated that$450,000 from the bond ordinanceas well as $375,000 from the town-

ships 2013 road program would beneeded for the repaving and recon-struction of Sooy Place Road. Theconstruction will stretch from theSouthampton and Woodland Town-ship borders

The remaining $400,000 from thebond ordinance would be distrib-uted for various improvements tomunicipal buildings and grounds.First on that list is the formeremergency services building on

Hawkin Road that acts as the town-ships community building but stillvery much looks like an emergencyservices building.

It would be used for improve-ments in the buildings mechani-cals and insulation as well as somerenovations in design to make the

A portion of the money wouldbe allocated for repairs to the Pep-per House. The building is inneed of a new roof as well as win-dow replacements, Cramer said.

    Committeeman Richard

Franzen was excited about theprospect of these projects begin-ning.

I think there are some realgood projects that help the infra-structure of the town. I think thisgets us started in the right direc-tion on a lot of stuff. We still havea lot more to do, of course, but itis good that were moving for-ward with this, Franzen said.

The Lenape Regional HighSchool District utilized the 2013-2014 school year to prepare for theupcoming PARCC assessment. Acommittee made up of teachersand administrators from acrossthe school district assembled

early in the year to create an im-plementation plan with stronginput from computer and net-work technicians.

Like schools across the coun-try, the administration and staff at Seneca High School have beenpreparing as well. The test differsfrom the previous HSPA exam inthat it is taken digitally.

We have a great administra-tion team that has done a great

job of preparing for PARCC,Principal Jeff Spector said. We

feel comfortable that we are pre-pared for the technological as-pects of administering the test. The challenge for our teachers isin managing and maintaining theinstructional time devoted toPARCC and the normal curricu-lum. It will be an adjustment.

The LRHSD designed and im-plemented a full-scale infrastruc-ture test that tested technologywhile the students were able tonavigate a tutorial and sample on-line questions in language artsand mathematics. The test in-cluded approximately 4,500 stu-
