A Brief history of the Melbourne Cup The Melbourne Cup, “The Race That Stops The Nation”, is the biggest horse race in Australia, and one of the most famous in the world. It was first run in 1861, with the inaugural winner being Archer, who won the first two races.

The TAB Melbourne Cup Live Site in Martin Place has been running successfully for eight years now, and is the biggest of it’s kind in Australia. There are full TAB facilities and of course a massive forty square metre LED video screen for the punters to follow all of the action throughout the carnival.

Only one horse, Makybe Diva, has won the race three times, in 2003, 2004 and 2005 consecutively. Four other horses have won the Melbourne Cup twice since it’s inception. It is the richest two-mile race in the world.

Melbourne Cup Live Site In Sydney The Official TAB Melbourne Cup Live Site is by far the biggest of it’s kind in Australia. Year in, year out for the last number of years, up to 100,000 people per day have visited the site, enjoying the live racing action on the giant video screen, the abundance of betting facilities, and the huge number of associated activities and attractions at the venue.

In 2014, the TAB live site will be bigger than ever, with many new on-site activities for the public. There will not only be the usual screening of the racing and “punters’ heaven “in terms of gaming at the venue. But there will be numerous additional attractions provided by Sienna Media. These will include promotions for clients, interactive gaming with “virtual horse racing”, a VIP area at the adjoining and ever-popular Martin Place Bar, along with nightly movie screenings .

Films being shown will include The Cup, Seabiscuit, Racing Stripes (for the kids) and of course the legendary Phar Lap.

Martin Place

Martin Place, at the epicentre of Sydney’s bustling CBD, is the busiest pedestrian thoroughfare in the city. Home to the GPO, Reserve Bank, Channel 7 News – among others – it has a daily foot traffic count of over 70,000 people. It is widely regarded as the “civic heart” of the city, and plays host to hundreds of events each year. Annually it houses Australia’s largest

Christmas Tree, holds hundreds of charity events, product launches, corporate gigs and concerts. Numerous world-famous acts have played there as part of Seven’s “Sunrise” and it has been the platform for many other shows and events – including of course one of the biggest attractions to the venue, the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

Martin Place is also one the CBD’s busiest transport hubs, with a major train station in the heart of the venue, and numerous bus routes and taxi ranks in the immediate vicinity. Virtually every worker in the area travels on one of these forms of transport to get to work in the city at one of the many offices, shops, bars and cafes in the immediate vicinity.

There will be an extensive number of interactive attractions at the event around Martin Place during the week. These will include: • A forty square metre video screen with LIVE coverage of all the week’s action, including of course the Melbourne Cup

• A “paddock” with a variety of merchandise for the public, around Martin Place

• “Champion Jockey” horse racing simulator game on the big screen
