message from The head of school
Dear CBA Family,
As we welcome the New Year, I am very pleased to report on the status of Christian Brothers Academy. Over the last five school years, our enroll-ment has grown by one hundred students. This growth has allowed us to add talented faculty and introduce programs to enhance the academic experience for all of our students.
In recent years, we have added more than ten college-level courses with an exciting new initiative for next year. We will introduce Project Lead The Way, the nation’s leading Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics program. Our students will have the option to take engineering classes next year, with new classes in the sequence added in each of the subsequent four years. The PLTW program will prepare our students for college majors in engineering and engineering technology fields. CBA will be the first private school in the area to offer Project Lead The Way.
Our students continue to honor the institution with excellence in academics, music, athletic and service. In the fall athletics season, our football team captured the Section 2 Super Bowl, Justin Van Epps became CBA’s first cross country sectional champion in 30 years, and every one of our teams qualified for a NYS Scholar-Athlete team award. The fine young men of CBA are a source of pride for the school and alumni everywhere.
As a school, and as a community, we are moving in the right direction to ensure the continued success of Christian Brothers Academy. Thanks to the support of the extended CBA family, including our faculty and staff, we will continue to provide quality education in the Lasallian tradition, allowing for each young man who walks the halls of CBA to reach his personal best.
Saint John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us. Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!

message from The chaIrman
Dear CBA Family,
When I joined the Board of Trustees in 2009 we developed a five-year strategic plan to guide the school to a position of academic excellence and financial stability, while at the same time growing our enrollment. When the new campus opened its doors in 1998, 379 students were enrolled and thereafter, enrollment peaked in 2004 to 530 students. In 2008, with the onset of the recession, enrollment hit a low of 330 students. I am happy to
report that CBA’s enrollment stands at 435, which happens to be the enrollment target in our strategic plan. The really good news is that we hit this target in four years, not five.
As enrollment grew, so did the number of teachers and academic offerings, with particular em-phasis on college preparatory courses in math and science. With the support and generosity of our parents, alumni and friends, CBA has been able to invest in the future of the school, includ-ing implementation of the latest technology, both in the classrooms and resource areas. Over the summer, a second baseball field was constructed to accommodate our four baseball teams. Also, a new irrigation system was installed to bring underground sprinklers to every athletic field. A generous gift from Lynn and Eugene Zielinski ’58, has allowed for the renovation and upgrade of the music rehearsal room and new instruments.
Everywhere I go, friends and alumni are telling me that great things are happening at CBA. They are, and more is yet to come. We will build on the success of the recent past and continue to ensure that our students receive the most advanced education available, in a safe and enrich-ing environment, while holding true to the spiritual principles of the Christian Brothers.

Bill was a dedicated employee from 2010 until his untimely passing in August 2013. He is greatly missed by the faculty, staff, and students for the friendships he created, his selfless devotion and assistance. Bill was always willing to help regardless
of the request or the magnitude of the project. Besides his commitment to CBA, he also enjoyed the outdoors and had a hobby for each season: fishing, golfing, hunting, and riding his Harley. Bill volunteered countless hours processing venison for the Venison Donation Coalition and served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Harry E. Yarnell during the Vietnam War era. We were fortunate to work with Bill.
mary e. fITZgerald praTTIcoChristian Brothers Academy lost a devoted member of its family this past fall. Mary E. Fitzgerald Prattico was the mother of Vincent ’09 and Nicholas’14, as well as a member of our CBA Board of Trustees, Vice President of the CBA Mother’s Association, and member of the Purple and Gold Gala committee. Mary believed in a Catholic education, and saw the effect a Christian Brothers education had on her father who attended Lasalle High School in Providence, RI. Vincent and Nick remember that Mary was motivated to get involved at CBA due to the dedication and commitment she witnessed in the faculty, staff and CBA families to the school. She showed the same devotion during her time as a CBA parent, always willing to help, being overly generous and welcoming to CBA families, especially in the Saratoga Springs area. She would always contribute where she could, contributing to bake sales where everything had to be homemade, never simple and never store bought. Throughout her time Vincent and Nick admired their mother for being an optimistic person who always tried to remain positive and an impactful contributor to our CBA community. Live Jesus in her heart forever!

The Society’s name honors Saint John Baptiste De la Salle (1651-1719), the founder of the Christian Brothers and the patron of Christian Brothers Academy.
The Saint LaSalle Society recognizes and honors all individuals who provide support for CBA in their wills, trusts, life insurance designations, and retirement assets. By joining others who have taken this step, you can take satisfaction from knowing that you are part of an important legacy.
When an individual joins the Saint LaSalle Society this act of support reaffirms Saint John’s promise to our boys about the future. With an education, it will be better, and that they are needed to make it better, and that a legacy of education will serve them.

alumnI spoTlIghTs:Two of our distinguished CBA alumni recently took a trip this past September that was a test of body, mind, and spirit. Richard Holm ’59 and Richard Smith ’59 have known one another since their time together at CBA in the Junior High. The class of ’59 meets and shares memories at a local restaurant and it was there that Rich and Rich found a mutual interest in hiking. This mutual interest led to an adventure on The Camino de Santiago in Spain.
Camino de Santiago is a 1,000 year old pilgrimage that terminates at the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, northwestern Spain. Rich and Rich hiked the “French Way,” a 500 mile journey beginning in Southern France. Originally it was decided that the trip would only be 10 kilometers and last 10 days. However, both adventurers persuaded each other to walk the whole 500 miles over a span of 31 days.
At the end of their journey our distinguished CBA travelers stopped to reflect on what they had just accomplished.
I am still absorbing the experience so it is difficult to select the most memorable part of it. I was deeply moved during the Mass for the Pilgrims at the Cathedral in Santiago. Surrounded by all those who had finally completed the Camino, I felt a profound sense of gratitude for what I have received in life. From here on out, it is finding the courage to accept what is to come. Maybe the Appalachian Trail…
Rich Holm ’59
At the end of the experience I felt a sense of accomplishment. I reflected on decades past and time to come in an unencumbered way. I saw where Roman’s built bridges and walked in their footsteps, in the footsteps of saints, in the cathedrals commissioned by Kings and mastered by architects.

A Lifetime of Giving: Bob Kisselback ’45CBA alum Bob Kisselback ’45 has been giving back to CBA in the form of his time and monetary donations for many years. Since the beginning of the CBA Phonathon Bob has been a willing participant and his wife Sue has helped every night for the last seven years. “CBA and the Brothers have been part of my life for 82 years,” Bob said. Bob’s father was born in Barrytown, the home of the Brothers Seminary.
Bob’s favorite memories come from time spent with teachers, classmates and activities at CBA. As a result of his time at CBA, Bob learned to be proud of each and everything he does, at home, at work and in life. Bob and his wife Sue attend every football and basketball game they can and see how our boys reflect in the community. “They are offered the same opportunities that I was given and move forward to give proper representation to the community. From what I have seen, they are doing just that.”
CBA is appreciative of Bob and Sue’s unwavering effort to help when needed. Bob has this message to pass on to current students about their time in CBA and giving back later in life. “Reach out and grab every opportunity you are offered and use it to make yourself a better person and always be proud to say you are a Brother’s Boy”.
