ContentI am planning to design a comical t-shirt based around the fictional, indie game character Slenderman. Due to his overall appearance having no facial features and a pale mask-like appearance, I felt it resemble Morph Suits – which are used as costumes for nights out/stag do’s etc. Taking this I incorporating well known teenagers, The Inbetweeners - in Morph Suits to stand with Slenderman behind with the tagline “Lads On Tour”

Audience

The age range for my t-shirt would be 16+ as The Inbetweeners is mainly viewed by older teenagers that would understand the pun behind the meaning of the shirt. Also Slenderman is a restricted game that often only allows individuals over the age of 16 to play due to it’s content.

The gender for my t-shirt is mainly boys due to the tagline “Lads On Tour”, although The Inbetweeners & Slenderman are not specifically targeted at one gender. There may be opportunities to convert the shirt to a unisex gender in the production stage.

Hobbies I believe link my t-shirt to the target audience are television and game media, Slenderman is well known but has never been categorized as a popular go-to game and can be played over the internet. Although incorporating The Inbetweeners, a popular British sitcom – opens the target demographic to a wider group as the show is extremely popular with 16-21 year olds in the British region.

Hypothetically, the shirt is aimed at a British geodemographic due to The Inbetweeners been a popular British show, where as the America audience have their own version of The Inbetweeners that may not apply. There is no specific indication though to the boys on the design been The Inbetweeners as they are wearing morph suits, so with Slenderman been a worldwide fan fictional game, it can be easy to attract a wider audience appealing to the Slenderman pun rather than The Inbetweeners.

The psychographic group/s I am targeting with my t-shirt design is the emulator (wannabe) and the socially conscious type A – both groups often refer to people under the age of 30 that have a more influential thought on society and will aspire to be an achiever and impress their peers and members of the opposite sex. This shirt is mainly focused on television and video game media rather than political or environmental views that may be associated with an achiever. Specifically I can see my shirt been bought by students or people in their early 20’s that spend a frequent amount of time watching television or playing video games – this again relates me back to the emulator where they are referred to not been particularly financial stable and living with their parents or in rented accommodation in part time education or work.

• Start to make rough plans and ideas to the concept and dimension of the design.

• Plan out which audience I am specifically targeting and research what appeals most to that set audience.

• Plan in the form of mood boards, mind maps etc.

• Begin writing proposal and target demographic.

• Finish off proposal and target demographic profile.

• Begin adding the starting points to the design – sketch out design which can later be refined in Photoshop.

• Scan in and adjust the contrast and brightness so that the outline is visible and can be worked from.

• Refer back to previous audience research to ensure design meets the demographic.

• Refine the outline of the sketch and add in colour/pattern/text and additional features.

• Create a RedBubble account and import the JPG t-shirt design.

• Adjust the dimension to ensure it is appropriately fitted to the t-shirt.

• Choose the price range and broadcast onto RedBubble.
