Supplies Needed: T-Shirt fabric – Thread - Velcro

This t-shirt pattern is an original design by Doll Originals. Sewing pattern and instructions for a short and long-sleeved t-

shirt, sized to fit 18 inch dolls like American Girl and similar 18 inch dolls, are included. This is a well-fitting t-shirt pattern

and very easy to sew.

This pattern is designed to print on 8 ½ x 11 inch paper with ½ inch margins and page scale set to none in your printer.

It’s very easy and economical to make t-shirts for your 18 inch dolls. You can purchase men’s extra- large t-shirts like the

one in the photo below, packaged with several t-shirts in the pack and you have a lot of fabric to make doll t-shirts. The

fabric is a nice weight and easy to sew. You can also dye the t-shirts if you would like to sew different colors and even

tie-dye some or you can find colored men’s t-shirts or just use t-shirts of your own that you no longer wear. Put a cute

applique on the front or even paint something with fabric paint. There’s so many ways to dress them up.

Pin your pattern pieces to your t-shirt fabric and cut out pattern.

Stitch shirt front to shirt backs at shoulders.

Pin neck binding to neck with right side of neck binding to wrong side of neckline and stitch. Turn neck binding to right side and press under edge ¼ inch. Stitch close to edge of binding. Press.

If you prefer not to use the neck binding, you can simply turn under ¼ inch at neck edge of t-shirt, press and stitch.

Press up a ½ inch hem at sleeve edges and stitch close to the edge. Then stitch again ¼ inch from sleeve edge. Pin sleeve

to armhole right sides together and stitch. Repeat with the other sleeve.

Pin underarm and side seams in shirt and sleeve, right sides together, matching notches. Stitch. Press seams open and

turn to right side.

Pin and press ½ inch hem at lower edge. You don’t need to finish the edge of hem since this t-shirt knit does not ravel.

Stitch close to the edge of hem and stitch again ¼ inch from edge of shirt. Turn to right side and press.

Cut a piece of Velcro the length of shirt from neck edge to edge of hem. Then cut Velcro in half lengthwise. Stitch hook

side of Velcro to left side of shirt. Turn under ½ inch on right side of shirt and stitch soft, loop side of Velcro to wrong

side of shirt so it overlaps hook side. Press shirt and you are finished.

Finished Shirt Front and Back.

If you want to sew the long sleeved t-shirt, just replace the short sleeve pattern piece with the long sleeve pattern piece

and use the same procedure to finish the hem edge of the sleeve and stitch to armhole edge of shirt.

The long sleeved t-shirt does not use the neck binding. Just simply press under neck edge ¼ inch and stitch. You can also

use this method for the neck edge on the short sleeved t-shirt instead of using the neck binding if you like.
