WORK OF ARTW H AT Y O U N E E D : White butcher paper; red marker; scissors; and a variety of art supplies such as markers, crayons, tissue paper pieces, glue sticks, stickers, etc. W H AT Y O U D O : B E F O R E T H E A C T I V I T Y: Cut a large square out of your butcher paper. (The size will depend on the number of children that are participating.) Draw a large red heart outline on the butcher paper square. After you draw the heart, cut the square into four equal sections. Number the sections 1-4 on the back of the paper.

(NOTE: This activity will continue all month. You will use one of the four sections of the butcher paper each week. Hang each section in the hallway for parents to see each week, like you’re putting a puzzle together. During Week 4, all of the sections will make one large heart. It will be the children’s work of art.)

When we’re done we will hang it for all of your parents to see. Let’s get started!”

D U R I N G T H E A C T I V I T Y: “That looks great, [child’s name]! Good job, [child’s name]! Ooo, I like what you did there, [child’s name]!” (Continue to encourage each child by name as they create.)

God had a plan for him. Do you know what else is awesome? God has a plan for you, and God has a plan for me ! When I ask you this very important question, ‘Who has a plan for you? ’ I want you to say, ‘God has a plan for me.’ Let’s try it. Who has a plan for you?”

W H AT Y O U D O : B E F O R E T H E A C T I V I T Y: Copy the “Bible Story Images” onto cardstock. Provide one set of images per classroom. You may choose to laminate these images since they will be used all month long. Select a large wall in your classroom that children will be able to see when seated. You guys are so sharp! Of course God knew, because God had a plan for Joseph. And we’ll get to see that amazing plan this month. But God’s plans aren’t just for the people we read about in the Bible. 5. JOURNAL AND PRAYERW H AT Y O U N E E D : “Memory Verse Card” paper clipped in your Bible at Psalm 33:11, journal, and fun-shaped pen for each small group

S M A L L G R O U P L E A D E R ( S G L ) : “It’s Small Group time! Let’s pretend to put on our favorite coats and then we’ll walk to our Small Group spot. Here we go! Pretend to put on your favorite coat with me.

(Pretend to put on your coat.)

“Great! Now we’re ready. Come and follow me!

(Make a sweeping motion with your hand for the children to follow you and lead them to your Small Group spot.)

“Here we are! We can take off our pretend coats now.

(Pretend to take off your coat.)

“Glad those are off. Let’s sit down and talk about today’s Bible story. One, two, three, sit down with me!

“Our Bible story today was about a guy named Joseph. He had a favorite coat too. It was his favorite coat because his daddy made it for him. Were Joseph’s big brothers happy or mad that their daddy made him a special coat?

(Pause for response.)

“They were mad! SO mad they sent Joseph far, far away. Even though this made Joseph sad, he still trusted that God had a plan for him.

“God had a plan for Joseph, and He has a plan for you too! It’s true! God has a plan for YOU! So when I ask: ‘Who has a plan for you? ’ I want you to say, ‘God has a plan for me.’ Got it? Let’s try it. Who has a plan for you?”

S G L : “Now use your whisper voice. Who has a plan for you?”

C H I L D R E N A N D S G L : “God has a plan for me.”

(Open Bible to verse.)

S G L : “He sure does! And no one can mess up God’s plans. Listen to the Bible verse we’re learning this month. It says: The plans of the LORD stand firm forever, Psalm 33:11. That means God’s plans are strong and only He can change them.

(Close Bible and lay it down.)

“Let’s stand up and say our new verse together with the motions. Just say what I say and do what I do.

C H I L D R E N A N D S G L : “The plans (hold up fingers 1, 2, 3) of the Lord (both hands point up) stand firm forever (stomp feet with hands on hips), Psalm 33:11.” (Hold out hands like a book.) (Repeat the verse with motions a few times.)

S G L : “That was great!

(Give each child a high-five.)

“Sit back down with me so we can write in our prayer journal.

(Hold journal and fun-shaped pen.)

“Joseph trusted God’s plan for him, even when he was sad. We can do that too. Let’s make a list of things that make us sad. Then, when we pray, we can ask God to help us trust His plan when we’re sad.

(Write each child’s name and what they say beside their name. Remember to print the words they say so the children can recognize their names and the letters.)

“Thank you for making this list with me. We all get sad sometimes. Let’s pray and ask God to help us trust His plan when we’re sad. Would anyone like to pray before I pray?”

(Give each child who wants to pray the opportunity to do so.)

PRAYERS G L : “Dear God, thank You for the true stories in the Bible we get to hear every time we come to church. Thank You for teaching us that we can trust Your plan, even when we’re sad. Please help [child’s name] trust you when (name what he listed) makes him sad. (Repeat for each child.) We know we can always trust Your plan. Thank You for being so awesome! We love You, God! In Jesus’ name, amen.”
