The Second Sunday of Easter is the eighth day in the Octave of Easter. For the past week, the Church throughout the world has celebrated each day of the Octave with the same joy and solemnity of Easter Sunday. Of course, today is also known as Divine Mercy Sunday. Jesus’ mission to the world and his extension of that mission to the Church can arguably be summed up in that one word: MERCY!

A few years ago I led a pilgrimage to Poland and visited the hometown of Saint Faustina Kowalska as well as the Shrine of Divine Mercy in Krakow. At each place, the sisters who guided us on our tours both emphasized that while Divine Mercy is most certainly about the forgiveness of our sins, it was so much more than that. Divine Mercy encompasses the tender love of God that brings the world into existence and which keeps each and every one of us in existence. It is the grace that draws sinners back to Him as well as the tender gaze on his saints “with whom he is well pleased.” Divine Mercy and Divine Love are two sides of the same coin. Divine Mercy is what we celebrate this Easter Season. “God so loved the world that He sent His only Son to be our savior, that whoever believes Him may not perish but might have eternal life.” It takes more than eight earthly days to contemplate this mystery; it takes even more than a lifetime. It takes eternity to contemplate the depths and the riches of

the Mercy of God!

God’s Way – “The Road to Kindness”

We hope you had a blessed Easter! As we finish our Lenten Season, what have you done to show someone that you Care?

We have heard from many in our parish that they were so touched by the Kindness Cards that were handed out over the past weeks, that they did show someone that they Care. Several members of our parish family shared their Easter lunch or dinner with a neighbor or friend. This may seem like a small or insignificant act of kindness however, you touched the life of someone by sharing your food with them and spending time together. This is a special Kindness Act! Each day you have many opportunities to show you Care!

If you are looking for ideas on what you could do or some examples of Kindness Acts, we encourage you to visit a website entitled “109 Acts of Kindness You Can Start Doing Today.”

Please share your act of kindness by emailing them to: [email protected]. More information about this program can be found on our parish website: www.stjoanhershey.org/kindness. Have a wonderful week!

“Carryout a random act of kindness with no

expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge

that one day someone might do the same for you!

A little thought and a little kindness are often

worth more than a great deal of money. Remember,

there is no such thing as a small act of kindness!”

ALL ARE WELCOME

• Introduce yourself to a family that has been touched by autism. Autism can create social isolation for the family; networking with others can build stronger communities and enrich one’s faith.

• Some individuals may be unable to attend the entire Mass. They may need extra space in the pew or to take a break. Their parents may bring books or Mass kits with them.

• Every person is a gift from God, has a human and universal need of spiritual connection to our Creator and His Son, Jesus Christ.

• Even persons who are non-verbal can acknowledge this connection through gesture or respectful temperament.

• We are all made in the image and likeness of God and, therefore, have inherent value and worth. The limita-tions of what we might be able to do are extrinsic to the measurement of our inherent human dignity.

• Every Human being IS a person first, not a diagnosis; so we strive to use people first in all of our conversations.
