A Welcoming Community: You enter this Church … not as stranger, but as a guest of God. He is your heavenly Father. Come, then, with joy in your heart and thanks on your lips into His presence, offering Him your love and service. Be grateful to the strong and loyal ones who, in the name of Jesus Christ, built this place of worship, and to all who have beautified it and hallowed it with their prayers and praise. Ask His blessing on those who love His house of faith as the inspiration of their labor, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit, and may that blessing rest on you, both in your going out and your coming in.

Parish Registration: You must be a registered member of The Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish to receive Baptism, Confirmation, First Penance, First Holy Communion, Marriage and to receive sponsor letters from the pastor.

New Members: Please stop by or call the parish office and register. (If you are leaving the parish, please notify the office before you leave). Thank you.

Change of Address: Please notify the parish office as soon as possible if you have had a change of address.

Inactive Catholics: As a welcoming parish, we ask every parishioner to ask God to put in your heart people whose hearts we need to reach out and touch with God’s love. “Before you talk to men about God, you talk to God about men.” Please, call, write, leave in an envelope in the collection the name, address and phone number of the person. Father would be delighted to meet with them.

SACRAMENTAL LIFE

RCIA: The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process to bring non-Catholics into the faith. Anyone seeking information or interested in becoming a part of this community of faith can call the parish office.

Sacrament of Baptism: Baptisms are scheduled for the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month following the 9:30 AM Mass. In order to understand and better appreciate this special sacrament, parents are required to attend the Pre-Baptismal Program, which is held on the last Saturday of each month at 7:00 PM in St. Basil’s Rectory. Please contact the rectory to schedule your child’s baptism.

Sacrament of Marriage: Couples contemplating marriage should notify the rectory at least six months prior to the date to allow necessary time for proper preparation.

Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick: Urgent calls will be attended to at any time of the day or night.

Visitation of the Sick: Please call the parish for visitation of the sick at home, in the hospital, or health care facility.

Parish Mission Statement: We, the Catholic faithful of The Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, in union with our Holy Father, the Pope, and our Bishop, are called through Baptism to share in the ministry which Jesus Christ has entrusted to the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. As priest and lay faithful in a rural area, we utilize our energy to serve the spiritual needs of the Kingdom of God to promote a culture of life, justice, and peace to this generation and the generations that follow us.

Prayer to the Immaculate Heart of Mary O Immaculate Heart of Mary, Heavenly beauty and splendor of the Father, you are the most valued Heavenly

treasure. New Eve, immaculate in soul, spirit and body, created of the godly seed by the Spirit of God, you are the

spiritual Mother of mankind. Pure Virgin, full of grace then and now, your whole being was raised Heavenly in full glory, to be elevated

above all the hosts within the Kingdom of God. O Heavenly Mother, Queen of Heaven and earth, I recognize the glory of your highest title, the Immaculate

Heart of Mary! Loving Mother, dispenser of endless blessings, you who continually intercede on our behalf,

please present my need before your loving Son, Jesus. (Mention your request)

O Immaculate Heart of Mary, I know that you are now presenting my need before Jesus, for you have never turned away those in dire need.

Mother dearest, I await your favorable answer, submitting myself to the Divine will of the Lord, for all glories are His for ever and ever. Amen.

Pentecost Sunday

Sunday, May 15th, 2016

Sunday Readings

First Reading: Acts 2:1-11 The disciples were celebrating Pentecost together when “tongues of fire appeared which parted, then came to rest on each of them.” The disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in foreign tongues. Visitors from many different countries were amazed that each guest could hear his or her native language being spoken as the disciples proclaimed God’s glory.

Responsorial Psalm: 104

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:3b-7, 12-13 Each person has received different manifestations of the same spirit to the common good of all. All members of the church have been baptized into one body because of our belief in the Holy Spirit, who was sent to us by God.

Gospel: John 20:19-23 Jesus appeared to the disciples even though they had locked the doors in fear. Jesus then showed the disciples his hands and his side; and they rejoiced at his presence. He breathed on them saying, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” He then gave the disciples the power to forgive others or hold them accountable for their sins.

Pentecost Sunday “On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood up

and exclaimed, ‘Let anyone who thirsts come to Me and drink. As

Scripture says: Rivers of living water will flow from within him who

believes in Me.’ He said this in reference to the Spirit that those who

came to believe in Him were to receive. There was, of course, no

Spirit yet, because He had not yet been glorified… When the time for

Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And

suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving

wind...And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.”

Have you ever tried to understand how some

weather forecasters can stand in a driving rain, with seas

crashing over the wall, wind biting at their headgear, to

prove that the storm had finally hit? We saw this with

Katrina, yet these people brought the action live into our

living rooms. The power and force of a storm often leaves

no one untouched.

Jesus promised the Spirit whose force and power

would change individuals, the nascent church, and the

world. Things have not been the same since the Spirit

came. “Let anyone who thirsts come to Me and drink.”

We know what happened. Those filled with fear

became bearers of His message. Sights and sounds filled

the eyes and ears of the spectators. Believers, not unlike

ourselves, were waiting for the promised Spirit. I wonder

how they thought the Spirit would arrive? Surely Jesus’s

coming at Bethlehem was so quiet and distinct! Those

enclosed in the cenacle went out to announce the

message of salvation, being sent by the Risen Lord to the

whole world. They were changed. Pope John Paul II, Servant of God, and Pope

Benedict XVI have spoken of the New Pentecost which is

directing the church today. As no one escaped the force

and power, another name for God’s grace, so we are

touched, moved, and sent to live. Remember, Jesus has

been glorified, the promised Spirit has been sent, and

drink from the gift of life-giving water.

He is the Spirit of life, the fountain of water welling up to

give eternal life. Through him the Father gives life to men,

dead because of sin, until he raises up their mortal bodies in

Christ.

The Spirit dwells in the Church and in the hearts

of the faithful as in a temple. He prays in them and bears

witness in them to their adoption as sons. He leads the

Church into all truth and gives it unity in communion

and in service. He endows it with different hierarchical

and charismatic gifts, directs it by their means, and

enriches it with his fruits.

By the power of the Gospel he enables the

Church to grow young, perpetually renews it, and leads

it to complete union with its Bridegroom. For the Spirit

and the Bride say to the Lord Jesus: “Come!” .

In this way the Church reveals itself as a people

whose unity has its source in the unity of the Father, Son,

and Holy Spirit.

The whole company of the faithful, who have an

anointing by the Holy Spirit, cannot err in faith. They

manifest this distinctive characteristic of theirs in the

supernatural instinct of faith (sensus fidei) of the whole

people when, from the bishops to the most ordinary lay

person among the faithful, they display a universal

agreement on matters of faith and morals.

This instinct of faith is awakened and kept in

being by the Spirit of truth. Through it the people of God

hold indefectibly to the faith once delivered to the saints,

penetrate it more deeply by means of right judgment, and

apply it more perfectly in their lives. They do all this

under the guidance of the sacred teaching office: by

faithful obedience to it they receive, not the word of men

but in truth the word of God.

Moreover, the Holy Spirit not only sanctifies and

guides God’s people by the sacraments and the

ministries, and enriches it with virtues, he also

distributes special graces among the faithful of every

state of life, assigning his gifts to each as he chooses. By means

of these special gifts he equips them and makes them

eager for various activities and responsibilities that

benefit the Church in its renewal or its increase, in

accordance with the text: To each is given the manifestation of

the Spirit for a good purpose.

These charisms, the simpler and more

widespread as well as the most outstanding, should be

accepted with a sense of gratitude and consolation, since

in a very special way they answer and serve the needs of

the Church.

From the dogmatic constitution on the Church of the

Second Vatican Council

The mission of the Holy Spirit in the Church

When the son completed the work with which the

Father had entrusted him on earth, the Holy Spirit was

sent on the day of Pentecost to sanctify the Church unceas-

ingly, and thus enable believers to have access to the Father

through Christ in the one Spirit.
