REMEMBRANCE DAY

LCHS will be holding its Remembrance Day ceremonies on Mon-

day, November 9th.

The Gr 12 and Gr. 11s (A-M) ceremony will be held during Period 3.

The Gr. 10 and Gr. 11s (N-z) ceremony will be held during Period 4

Both ceremonies will be held in the Maclab theatre.

LCHS is pleased to welcome a special guest this year to be an integral

part of our ceremonies, Susan Raby-Dunne . Mrs. Raby-Dunne has

written a book called Bonfire- The Chestnut Gentleman.

Every Commonwealth citizen knows of the WWI poem, In Flanders

Fields. But what do we really know about its author, Canadian sol-

dier/physician/poet, John McCrae? How much do we know of the ac-

tual events leading to the writing of one of the most famous war po-

ems ever written? Why do we wear a red poppy in November?

Bonfire - The Chestnut Gentleman is a moving, intimate and unfor-

gettable look at the writer of the indelible poem and his world within

the war that shaped our nation.

Thank you to the LCHS Band, Choir, and our students in uniform for

helping to make this ceremony a true act of remembrance.

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCE SCHEDULING - NOVEMBER 5th 5:30-8:00 p.m.

Go to: http://lchs.schoolappointments.com

Parents click on the “Register” tab and fill in the registration form to create an account. Once parents

have successfully registered, they can login to the system and then must register their students by name.

To Book Appointments

Select Teachers Parents can schedule appointments for any student that they have added to the system

by clicking on the “Appointments” button beside the student’s name. The parent is then taken to a page

where they can select the teachers with whom they wish to meet. Multiple teachers can be selected by

using the “Ctrl” key on a PC keyboard or the “Command” key on a Macintosh keyboard.

Teacher Appointment Calendars

Parents are shown the calendars of the selected teachers. It also shows them appointment times that are

unavailable for booking. Parents can select appointment times by simply clicking the check boxes or by

clicking in the time block beside the check box. Once an appointment time has been selected it will

change to green. If no appointments are available, click on the call back button at the top of the list.

It is not possible for parents to select more than one appointment at the same time or to select more than

one appointment with the same teacher. Javascript enabled browsers are required for validation on the

screen.

Appointments Booked Successfully

Once the appointments are booked the screen will display the list of appointments for the student.

When the parent clicks on the “Return to Home Page” button, they will return to the home page with

their students and their appointments listed. They can book additional appointments, or they can book

appointments for another student.

Parents with More Than One Student

If a parent has more than one student at the school, the teacher appointment calendars will have an ad-

ditional feature displayed when the second (or third, etc.) student bookings are made. If a sibling has an

appointment booked, the student’s name will be displayed for a parent, thus making it easier to book

adjacent appointments.

Printing Parent Appointment Schedule

Form the home page it is possible for you to generate a PDF document with the list of your appoint-

ments. By clicking on the “Print Appointments” button a window will pop-up asking the parent what

they wish to do with the document.. In Internet Explorer, it is recommended that people click the

“Save” button, save the file and then click “Open” to view the file. IE sometimes has a problem down-

loading and opening PDF documents that are generated from web sites.

Click “Open” after the download is complete to view the PDF.

If you are having difficulties, you may choose to call the school to book appointments over the phone.

Please note the Leadership Fee and Parent Association Fee on all Acorn student ac-counts at Leduc Composite High School have been adjusted from “Mandatory Fees” to “Optional Fees”. These items now appear online under “Additional Items”.

If you have already paid these fees, you will have received a $15 credit on your child’s account. If there were any outstanding fees, this credit would have automatically been applied to those respective fees. If there were no outstanding fees, the amount is displayed as an overpayment (credit) on your child’s account. If you have not paid your fees you will notice a change in the amount due in Mandatory fees. You now have the option to log back into the PowerSchool Parent Portal and add the

optional fee(s), such as the Parent Association Fee and/or Leadership Fee, to your shopping cart or contact

the school Secretary listed below to manually add the fee(s) back onto your child's account. When you se-

lect these fees, a short description of each of the fees will also be shown in Acorn. These optional fees will

benefit your child in numerous ways.

Leadership Fee - Leadership is a group at the school that helps to promote School Spirit. They run events throughout the school year, for ex; Muffin Days, Pancake breakfast, prizes for differ-ent fun events, etc. All students at the school benefit from this group. This fee helps absorb some of the costs attributed to these activities. Parent Association Fee – Supports the school through activities, events and fundraising. Every member of the parent body is a member of the Parent Association. The fee collected is turned over to the Parent Association and as a group they vote where the funds collected are distributed throughout the school. For example in previous years they purchased calculators for students use, they bought sound equipment for our recording studio, helped offset costs of extra-curricular activities. course was the provincial championships in Spirit River which both Cheyenne and Ginelle qualified for.

Cheyenne was unable to attend so our lone participant was Ginelle who was able to place 6th overall.
