THE HISTORY OF ESTABLISHMENT

The idea to form the Association came about, first, at a seminar organized by WITSA (World Information Technology Services and Alliance) in conjunction with Computer Frontiers, supported by USAID in September 2003, that was held at the New Africa Hotel in Dar es Salaam.

While the seminar was attended by well over thirty (30) representatives of various IT sector organizations, to-date, TICTA is manned by only a handful volunteers.

Nomination of the interim committee took place out of these volunteers. The Chairperson and Executive Director were nominated.

THE HISTORY OF ESTABLISHMENT

In March 2004, the first organizational meeting, held at the Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH) Main Conference Hall, determined the pace for the organizational aspects of the Association.

At the COSTECH meeting, the way forward was charted, the Constitution was already under review, membership fees were discussed and approved, and terms of reference were set for the modalities of the operation of the Association.

To-date, several in-house committees have been set up, with a view to finalize the operation of the Association.
