Agricultural Marketing Information System Network (AGMARKNET) The AGMARKNET project is sponsored by Directorate of Marketing and Inspection (DMI), Ministry of Agriculture, and implemented by National Informatics Centre. It aims to link all Regulated Markets, State Agricultural marketing Boards / Directorates and DMI regional offices located throughout the country, for effective information exchange on market prices. AGMARKNET Portal The AGMARKNET website (www.agmarknet.nic.in ) is a G2C e-governance portal that caters to the needs of various stakeholders such as farmers, industry, policy makers and academic institutions by providing agricultural marketing related information from a single window. It facilitates dissemination, over web, of the daily arrivals and prices of commodities in the agricultural produce markets spread across the country. The data transmitted from all the markets is made available on the AGMARKNET portal in multi- lingual mode. It displays Commodity-wise, Variety-wise daily Prices and Arrivals information from all wholesale markets. Various types of reports can be viewed including Trend reports for Prices and Arrivals for important commodities.

Markets covered In Tamil Nadu so far 93 Regulated Markets have been made operational, over 4 phases. Phase I : 10 Markets Phase II: 18 Markets Phase III: 35 Markets Phase V: 30 Markets In the current phase (Phase VII) supply of hardware has commenced for 116 Nodes in Tamil Nadu, as follows:.

Infrastructure Provided: The following facilities are provided in each AGMARKNET node:

One desktop computer Internet Connectivity Software for entry and transmission of daily arrivals and prices data, for all commodities

transacted in the market. Training A 5-day Training was imparted to staff of each of the Regulated Markets at the time of implementation. Subsequent refresher programs were also conducted.

2. Website for Domestic Export and Market Intelligence Cell NIC has developed and hosted a website for Domestic & Export Market Intelligence Cell (DEMIC) (http://www.tnagmark.tn.nic.in) for the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. The DEMIC website aims to disseminate market and price information to the farmers to facilitate better planning, production, storage and sale. The Market Intelligence Cell provides periodic bulletins on the following, which are uploaded on the website: a) forecast the supply and demand of important agricultural commodities in Tamil Nadu. b) forecast future prices of major agricultural commodities c) study the state and national market situation related to important commodities. The Information in the website is provided in both Tamil and English. The Hon'ble Minister for Agriculture Thiru Veerapandi S. Arumugam, launched the website for Domestic Export and Market Intelligence Cell (DEMIC) at a seminar organized by the Agricultural Dept at Salem on 16th Nov 2006. The Secretary, Agriculture Department, Commissioner Agriculture Marketing, District Collector of Salem, Mayor of Salem and other dignitaries were present. The function was attended by over 500 farmers.
