WHAT IS A REFERENCE GENERATOR?
• In load flow, the generator used to balance the active power and
reactive power is called reference generator.
• It can either supply or absorb active and reactive power into or from
the system.
• Example:
– 3 generators in the grid, one is reference
– For 2 generators, dispatch is specified
– PF computes output of reference generator, based on loads and
losses
