IntroductionWhat is Norman System Speedup? If you think your computer is slow, help is at hand. Norman System Speedup is a new computer opti-mization and error repair utility that dramatically improves the computer performance.

Regularly cleaning your computer could save you costly maintenance fees down the road. It’s com-mon to fill space on a computer’s hard disk with games, productivity programs, or files, like music files, digital photos, video clips, or other Internet files. Some industry studies believe that we use less than ten percent of the programs installed on our computer.

While deleting programs is relatively easy, many novice computer users believe they can be removed by simply deleting their icon on the desktop. This does not work, as it’s only a shortcut to the real pro-gram, which consists of many files. And keep in mind that you can do damage to your computer’s per-formance if you happen to delete a program folder from your hard disk, because you don’t think you need it. Norman System Speedup is the utility you need to safely - and easily - remove old or unused programs and files from your Windows-based computer.

Norman System Speedup includes a System Cleaner, a System Optimizer, and a wide range of System Tools designed exclusively to boost computer performance. Both beginners and experienced users will enjoy the available features and options and the simple application interface. With the click of a button all common computer errors can be fixed. How does it do this? In short, Norman System Speedup offers a Registry Cleaner to detect and remove all bad entries from the computer, it opti-mizes Windows for faster startup and stops runaway processes that may take up all of the processor cycles. It also includes a Junk Files Cleaner to remove unused files and traces of online activities, like browser history, cookies, temporary files, logs, invalid links, and many more. The best part is that it’s small (less than 3 MB) and fast and furious (normally it takes less than a minute to scan and fix).

Why use Norman System Speedup?Simply, Norman System Speedup will get the most out of your computer and make it new again. The best part is that it’s small, fast and furious (normally it takes less than a minute to run). It is the most advanced and easy-to-use utility on the market.

Norman System Speedup suits all kinds of users - from novices who will appreciate the one-click opti-mization to more advanced users who probably will experiment with any setting. Temp files remover, registry cleaners and startup program controls are the most common features of these utilities, and these basics work in Norman System Speedup more quickly and easily than most other. However, the application also offers great add-on tools that you don’t usually see in a utility program. It offers a vari-ety of Internet and program acceleration tweaks as well as Windows performance enhancers.

System Cleaner

Junk FilesOpens the Junk Files cleaner dialog. Do you know what’s on your computer or how it got there? System Cleaner was designed to show you and help keeping your computer running clean. Over time one tends to forget how many programs that are installed, uninstalled or deleted, the number of files that were copied, and so on. Where does all that garbage go? It is still there. System Cleaner is designed to help you recover the space that this garbage is taking up on your hard drives.

• Click Run Cleaner to scan for unused files that are taking up valuable space on the hard disk.

• From User-Defined Path Settings you can add files or folders that you want this program to re-move. For example, you can add the Temp (Temporary) folder which contain files that was created when certain programs were run or installed.

• With the Junk Files Cleaner results page you can easily see the list of Junk Files found on each section of your computer. Click the Run Cleaner button to clean the files detected. Click the Close button if you wish to leave and return to the Home section on the application.

• The option Create System Restore Point before Cleaning Junk Files allows you to create a System Restore Point on your computer. If you want to revert to a previous restore point, you can run the Windows System Restore.

Registry CleanerOpens the Registry Cleaner dialog. In short, this feature scans and fixes common registry errors, as well as cleaning the Most Recent Used (MRU) files. The Windows Registry is a set of data files used to help Windows controlling hardware, software, the user’s environment, the looks and user experence of the Windows interface, and where programs store their data. Over time parts of the reg-istry become invalid or points to locations that no longer exist.

With Registry Cleaner you can find and solve all the registry problems, that can cause errors and unwanted behavior, with a few simple mouse clicks.

• Click Registry Manager to back-up your Registry.

• Click Find Errors to find registry errors on your system.

• From the Registry Cleaner results page you can easily view the list of errors that was found on each of the sections scanned by the Registry Cleaner. Click Clean Errors to clean the detected files. Click Close to return to the application’s Home page.

• The option Create System Restore Point before Cleaning Junk Files allows you to create a System Restore Point on your computer. If you want to revert to a previous restore point, you can run the Windows System Restore.

Smart DefragmenterOpens the Smart Defrag dialog. Over time and with regular use, files and folders on a computer’s hard disk break down or become fragmented. This can cause the system to run slowly and experienc-ing process issues. Defragmenting the computer generally improves the retrieval time and the overall performance.

From the Smart Defragmenter results dialog you can easily view the list of files and folders that was found on each of the sections scanned by Smart Defrag. Click Start Defrag to defrag the detected files and folders. Click Close to return to the application’s Home page.

Note Do NOT use Smart Defragmenter or other defragment utility with SSD (Solid State Drives).

System RestoreThis feature gives an instant view of the System Restore Points on your computer and it allows you to remove any of them. The Restore Points contain information about registry settings and other sys-tem information that Windows uses. If you want to revert to a previous restore point, you must run the Windows System Restore.

How to select a System Restore point? To restore Windows to a previous point, using System Restore, please follow these steps (they may vary depending on the Windows version installed on your computer):

1. Log on to Windows as an Administrator.

2. Windows XP

Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Sys-tem Restore. System Restore starts. Or you can type c:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe into the run box and hit enter.

Windows Vista

There are two places that you can use the system restore feature from. From within Windows, you can just type restore into the Start menu search box, and you will immediately see System Restore at the top of the start menu. Or you can type rstrui into the search box and hit enter.

Windows 7

Start at the Control Panel, select System and Security, and then select Recovery. You can begin the system restore operation by clicking on System Restore.

3. A dialog where you can choose to roll back the system to a previous restore point appears.

It is recommended that you select the most recent or recommended system restore point in the list.

4. Confirm the Restore Point.

The previous Windows configuration is restored and the computer is restarted.

5. Follow the next steps as described on-screen.

If you successfully restored your computer to a previous state, and the computer is performing as it should be, you have finished the restore.

System Optimizer

Startup ManagerWhen you restart the computer you must patiently wait, while all sorts of programs, helper apps, widgets, and remnants of forgotten installations are launched. The Startup Manager improves the computer startup time. With this feature you can delete entries in the startup file, export the startup programs list and scan for new entries.

NOTE We strongly recommend that you take caution using this feature to avoid corrupting the restart pro-cess in any way.

NetStateNetState gives an instant view of the network status, and programs running on the computer that are connected to the Internet. This feature allows you to terminate unwanted programs that are connected to the Internet.

Process ManagerThe Process Manager provides a list of active processes, including the names of their owning account, and you can end running processes. The unique capability of Process Explorer is useful for obtaining insight into the way Windows and applications work. It enables users to terminate and refresh processes.

Service ManagerThe Service manager gives you an instant view of the status for critical service functions and opera-tions. A Windows Service is a long-running executable that performs specific functions and which is designed not to require user intervention. Windows services can be configured to start when the operating system is restarted, and run in the background as long as Windows is running, or they can be started manually when required. Once a service is installed, it can be managed by launching the Service Manager screen.

The management console of the Services Manager provides a brief description of the service func-tions and displays the path to the service executable, its current status, startup type, dependencies and the account under which the service is running. It enables users to start, stop, uninstall or refresh services.

UninstallerThe Uninstaller gives you an instant and comprehensive view of the programs installed on the com-puter, and allows users to easily uninstall the programs on the hard disk.

Every program you install creates one or more entries on the Windows Registry to make a future removal easier. Uninstaller is designed so that you can easily remove software from your computer and identify programs that should no longer point to valid locations.

It is true that Windows includes an Add/Remove programs applet in the Control Panel dialog, but this applet is virtually powerless on its own. Try this: Run Uninstaller and install it on your system. Install two or more programs and uninstall them with their own uninstallers (from add/remove). Now, run Uninstaller Plus and check for new additions. You will most likely find some leftover files, like game saves, some directories, some log files, etc. This is why Uninstaller is a must for a clean and complete software uninstallation.
