Vicar’s Message…

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, The month of August brings to us inspiring thoughts of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin and

also those of Indian independence. At the end of its Constitution on the Church, the Second Vatican

Council left us a very beautiful meditation on Mary Most Holy. Let me just recall the words referring

to the mystery we celebrate this month: “the immaculate Virgin preserved free from all stain of original

sin, was taken up body and soul into heavenly glory, when her earthly life was over, and exalted by the

Lord as Queen over all things” (no. 59). Then towards the end, there is: “the Mother of Jesus in the

glory which she possesses in body and soul in heaven is the image and the beginning of the church as it

is to be perfected in the world to come. Likewise, she shines forth on earth, until the day of the Lord

shall come” (no. 68). This exhortation gives us an assurance. In the struggles which we confront Mary does not leave us alone:

the Mother of Christ and of the Church is always with us. She walks with us always, she is with us. The Blessed Virgin has

already entered, once and for all, into heavenly glory. But this does not mean that she is distant or detached from us; rather Mary

accompanies us, struggles with us, and sustains us in our fight against the forces of evil. May each of us grow into greater

holiness and deeper love of God and man. The Year of Mercy should provoke in us thoughts, words and deeds of abiding

concern and compassion for those around us. Independence and Freedom are precious gifts and need to be nurtured with total

zeal and fervour. Let us pray for our motherland and the whole world.

The new families taking birth in our community these days point to the richness and variety of God’s design for us. Let us

join in offering our prayers and support to the newly married couples. May our loving guidance and fervent prayers see them

through their journey to peace and fulfilment. I just want to congratulate our youth group who did a wonderful job during the

time of our parish feast by conducting a carnival and special congrats to Roshan Philip and Rosemary George for participating in

the World Youth Day in Poland.

The Year of Mercy is running its course and is about to reach a perfect finale. In the time left we are called to do all that is

within our power to fulfil heaven’s desire for us as expressed through the Supreme head of our church His Holiness Pope

Francis. Let us pay heed. Let us bring out the Christ in each of us. The world needs a wealth of mercy and compassion to tide

over the challenges to faith and human dignity that we see around so shockingly and rampantly these days.

May God bless each and every one of us, and all our endeavours! May the Blessed Virgin intercede for us. Johnykutty Achen

POPE FRANCIS to Young on 31

st

WORLD YOUTH DAY

Pope Francis on July 27th presided over World Youth Day in Krakow Poland and urged the youth to ‘make chaos’ by spreading the joy of their faith, warned against the ‘terrorism of gossip - for it destroys dignity, the fame of a person’ and suggested the way to beat secularism is by ‘out-loving’ it. Dear young people, we didn't come into this world to 'vegetate," to take it easy, to make our lives a comfortable sofa to fall asleep on. No, we came for another reason: To leave a mark. Jesus is the Lord of risk ... not the Lord of comfort, security and ease. Following Jesus demands a good dose of courage, a readiness to trade in the sofa for a pair of walking shoes and to set out on new and uncharted paths. Today, we adults need you to teach us how to live in diversity, in dialogue, to experience multiculturalism not as a threat but an opportunity. Have the courage to teach us that it is easier to build bridges than walls! - Pope Francis said.
