Page 2: SYRIA: Four Years of War

For more than four years now, Syrians have endured the loss and hardship caused by a protracted civil war. Nearly four million Syrians have fled the country, filling refugee camps in neighboring countries.

Fierce fighting still goes on daily, with battles between Syrian government forces and a number of rebel groups, including ISIS, which is facing opposition in Iraq as well. Areas of Damascus are stable enough for residents to carry on normal lives, while many distant rural villages have been reduced to rubble.

Airstrikes, ground attacks, bombings, and street battles take place every day, despite diplomatic attempts to halt the hostilities. No clear end to the war is in sight, and those caught in the crossfire continue to suffer the most. Gathered here are images of the ongoing Syrian conflict from just the past six weeks.
