1. Overview 1.1. Abstract This document provides instructions for installing and configuring V1.8.2 of the Synthesis Todo+Cal+Sync SyncML application on your iPhone. This will allow you to synchronize your Contacts, Todos (Tasks), and Calendar between your iPhone and your Farmers eMail service.

1.2. Prerequisites (Minimum Requirements) You must meet the criteria below to configure access to the Wireless Synchronization Service. If you downloaded this guide at the end of completing the Farmers Wireless Web Wizard (http://www.usa.net/farmers/), we have already made sure you have met these requirements.

If you obtained this guide in some other way and did not complete the Web Wizard, STOP! Go and complete the Web Wizard before following the steps in this guide!

• A compatible PDA/Smartphone Mobile Device

o iPhone or iPod Touch

• The correct Operating System Version

o iPhone OS 2.0 or higher

• Internet Access from your Mobile Device

o Purchased separately from your wireless service provider (iPhone)

o WiFi access point (iPhone or iTouch)

• At least 100 MB of mailbox storage on your Farmers' eMail account

o Purchased from Farmers' Agency Dashboard eMail Storefront

o 100 MB, 250MB, or 500 MB mailbox “w/ wireless”

• USA.NET Wireless Service added to your Farmers' email account

o Purchased from Farmers' Agency Dashboard eMail Storefront

o Purchased as a 100 MB, 250MB, or 500 MB mailbox “w/ wireless”

o If you already have a mailbox at least 100 MB in size you still must go to the Storefront to add the “w/ wireless” option to your mailbox

• A Compatible SyncML Plug-In for your Cell Phone

o 3rd party software purchased separately

• An iTunes Store account

o Instructions for creating an iTunes Store Account can be found on the Farmers Wireless Web Wizard (http://www.usa.net/farmers/)

1.3. Document Conventions • User Input is text the user must enter into the computer, usually into some data entry field in an on-screen

form

o When the user input text is formatted as follows, type the text in exactly as shown inside the gray, outlined box

o When brackets < > surround the text, the brackets indicate that it is <variable text, type in the text that is appropriate to you>. DO NOT include (type in) the brackets

2. Configure the Synthesis iPhone Todo+Cal+Sync App Step 1) Tap on the Todo+Cal+Sync icon on the home screen

Step 2) The app will open to the All Todos view. Tap on the Flip button to switch to the

Synthesis SyncML part of the application

Step 3) Tap on the Settings icon at the bottom of the screen

Step 4) Tap on the Server Settings configuration arrow

Step 5) Complete the following on the Server Settings screen

a) Enter https://syncml.postoffice.net in the URL field. Tap on the Save button to return to the Server Settings screen

You MUST use SSL when configuring your client. You must always configure your client with “https”. We enforce this policy to ensure that your password is protected when your client authenticates to our server.


b) Ensure the SyncML Version field is set to automatic

After your initial sync, this setting will automatically reset itself to the appropriate SyncML

version, 1.0, 1.1, or 1.2 and can be left on this setting c) Ensure Ignore SSL errors is set to OFF

d) Ensure Use Proxy is set to OFF

e) Enter your <Farmers Email Address> in the User field, tap on the Save button


f) Enter your <Farmers Email Password> in the Password field, tap on the Save button

g) Tap on the Settings button to return to the Settings main screen

Step 6) On the Settings screen, turn on synching for Contacts, Todos, and Calendar

Step 7) Tap on the Contacts configuration arrow

Step 8) On the Contacts screen

a) Tap on the Sync Mode field. Set it to Slow Sync


b) Ensure the Server Path field is set to contacts, tap on the Save button

The Server Path names are case sensitive and must be all lowercase

c) Tap on the Settings button

Step 9) Tap on the Todos configuration arrow

Step 10) On the Todos screen



b) Ensure the Server Path field is set to tasks, tap on the Save button


c) Ensure Include Tags is set to ON

d) Tap on the Settings button

Step 11) Tap on the Calendar configuration arrow


Step 12) On the Calendar screen


b) Enter calendar in the Server Path field, tap on the Save button


c) Ensure the Date Range Limits Limit setting is OFF

d) Tap on the Settings button


Step 13) Tap on the Done button

Step 14) Tap on the Home button to exit the Todo+Cal+Sync application


3. Synchronize For the First Time DO NOT synchronize until you have completed the configuration steps in Section 3 above Step 1) Tap on the Todo+Cal+Sync icon on the home screen

Step 2) The Todo+Cal+Sync application will open to the Todo+Cal part of the application. The Todo+Cal part of the application has 4 main views, Todo, Month, Day, and List. Swipe left or swipe right to switch between these views. Prior to synchronizing for the first time these views should look similar to the ones below and contain no data

Step 3) Tap on the Flip button to switch to the Synthesis SyncML part of the application


Step 4) Tap on the Start Synchronization button. Your synchronization will start immediately

Step 5) When synchronization is complete, the results will be displayed as follows

Step 6) Tap on the Flip button to switch to the Todos-Cal part of the application

Step 7) The Todo+Cal part of the application will now display your synchronized data


• The Todo+Cal+Sync application’s Todo (Tasks) information IS NOT integrated into any default iPhone/iTouch Tasks application. The iPhone/iTouch does not have any default Tasks application. Todo (Tasks) information is contained within the Todo+Cal+Sync application

Notes:

• The Todo+Cal+Sync application’s Calendar information IS NOT integrated into the iPhone/iTouch Calendar application. Apple does not currently allow third party applications access to its Calendar application. Calendar information is contained within the Todo+Cal+Sync application

• The Todo+Cal+Sync application’s Todos’ [tags] field maps to the Farmers eMail Tasks [Category] field

Step 8) Tap on the Flip button to switch to the Synthesis SyncML part of the application and you can see the date and time of your last synchronization

Step 9) Tap on the Settings button and you can see that the next time you sync it will perform a

Normal Sync


4. View Synchronized Contacts Data • The Todo+Cal+Sync application’s Contacts information IS integrated into the iPhone/iTouch

Contacts application. To access your Contacts information on your mobile device tap on the Contacts application icon on your device’s home screen

5. Determine Todo+Cal+Sync App Version Number

Step 1) Tap on the Todo+Cal icon ( ) on your home screen

Step 2) Tap on the Flip ( ) button in the upper left corner

Step 3) Tap on the About icon ( ) in the lower right corner

Step 4) Note the Version Number of your Todo+Cal+Sync app. In the example below the version number is 1.8.1


6. Update your Todo+Cal+Sync App Updates may become available for your Todo+Cal+Sync app. Some may be free, others you may have to pay for. Follow the steps below to update you app if an update is available.

Step 1) Tap on the App Store icon ( ) on your home screen. If you have any apps with an available Update, the total number of apps with Updates available will be displayed at the upper right corner of the App Store icon

Step 2) Tap on the Updates icon ( ) in the lower right corner

Step 3) Tap on the Updates menu item for the Todo+Cal+Sync app

Step 4) Tap on the Free button to update you application

The new features for the updated application are summarized on the app’s Update screen


Step 5) Tap on the Install button to install the app update

Step 6) Enter your <iTunes Apple ID> and/or <iTunes Password> as necessary, tap on the OK

button

Step 7) The app icon on the home screen will show the updated app first Loading… and then

Installing…

Step 8) Follow the steps in Section 6 to confirm the updated version of the app has been installed
