Introduction
Suitable site selection for Dams is an important issue. Dams and reservoirs in Pakistan which have height greater than 15 m (49 ft) are 143.
Multiple parameters like suitable height , flow accumulation and hazard fault free area are required to explore and analyses for the development of dams.
Tarbala dam is the largest earth filled dam in the world and is second largest by the structural volume.
Mirani Dam is the largest dam in the world in terms of volume for flood protection with a flood stock of 588,690 cubic hectometer.

Literature Review
A mini project report on “Dam and water shed analysis” this report mainly discussed following topics
A brief description of various procedures and implementation.
Calculation of water flow, storage and visualization of catchments
Discussion on the various calculations regarding the construction of dam, and its parameters.
A brief overview of the algorithms used during the implementation of water catchment, coverage and construction of dam.

A research paper on “DAM / RESERVOIR SITES SELECTION USING REMOTE
SENSING & GIS TECHNIQUES” by Muhammad Ateeq Qureshi. Finding of this
paper are
Describe the idea about site selection at initial level where the base line
information’s are not available for resources exploration and decision making
is also a critical stage, the authority didn’t have an idea either it is
environmental friendly nor hazard.
Identification of new resources and maps the hydrology of areas.

10
Fulfill the electricity generation requirements
Identify suitable sites for Dams
To utilize the water resources in right direction
To minimize the water lose, and use it for national development purposes
