SyncNet is a low power RF communication solution offering for creating a field area network, based on the Wireless Smart Utility Network (Wi-SUN) standard. SyncNet enables OEMs and utilities to transport data bidirectional, between field devices and other systems and IoT applications that utilize that data for analytics or decision making. SyncNet helps utilities integrate and derive greater value from intelligent sensors being deployed in utility substations or networks. OEMs can license SyncNet technology to integrate it into their products enabling them to offer IoT ready devices with plug and play connectivity. SyncNet Field Area Network (FAN) communication protocol stack is offered to OEM’s with the option of using it either in the form of source code or as binary code. Along with the protocol stack, OEMs receive a hardware reference design -- an RF network interface module which can be integrated into their product design. SyncNet protocol stack is portable to other RF network interface module designs conforming to the physical layer standards of Wi-SUN/IEEE 802.15.4. OEMs can either use Kalkitech SYNC 1911 Field Area Routers or their own edge router platform to provide routing between the RF network and backhaul networks. SyncNet can also be used for integrating existing legacy devices or auxiliary equipment in utility substations, power plants or networks in order to equip them with RF communication capability and enabling these devices to participate in IoT-based applications. The major advantage for end customers using SyncNet is ease of deployment. Laying of communication cables in existing substations and power plants for connecting devices not originally planned and provisioned for is a considerable effort and cost, and in some cases may not be physically possible. SYNC 1851 a low cost RF bridge to interface with existing devices over an RS232/485 serial port and it directly connects them to the RF network. All such SYNC 1851s can become part of a FAN established by SYNC 1911 Field Area Routers. Apart from running the field area routing application, SYNC 1911 can function as a protocol gateway to easily integrate data with existing SCADA applications. For customers who want to connect SyncNet enabled devices to an IoT platform, Kalkitech supports the SyncNet connectivity with its Energy IoT platform, kalki.io. SyncNet provides a reliable and secured connection over standard TLS tunnel. Kalki.io is a secure Energy IoT platform provided as software as a service (SaaS) which can deployed in a public or private infrastructure. It aggregates near real-time data from the field devices and makes it accessible to authorized applications and users. Its core services include device management, multi level user rights, application or device specific dashboards, notification services and data sharing with internal and external applications. Kalki.io provides a robust foundation with a unified interface for operations and for building applications that simplify IT/OT integration, advanced analysis and actionable intelligence. SyncNet Technology The SyncNet FAN is based on a Wi-SUN technology stack. The PHY layer supported by SyncNet is based on IEEE 802.15.4g, which provides bidirectional communication operable in various license free bands. The MAC sub-layer is based on IEEE 802.15.4e along with Wi-SUN defined Information Extensions (IEs). The network layer is IPv6 with 6LoWPAN [RFC6282] adaptation. SyncNet supports mesh topologies, specifically star and mesh options in the Wi-SUN profile. Mandatory packet routing option based on: RPL [RFC6550] non- storing mode is supported at the network layer. The transport layer provides both UDP and TCP services. IoT Applications Using SyncNet

Community/Industrial Smart Metering

Substation Asset Monitoring

Wireless communication network for smart meter reading for residential communities and industrial establishments. Can deliver all smart metering functions including billing, prepayment, demand response, outage management, energy auditing and various other use cases.

Wireless communications module can connect to assets in a substation via either directly embedded on the sensor or plugged in through serial ports, to monitor operational and non- operational parameters. This enables the identification of abnormal conditions and the ability to schedule preventive maintenance of substation assets.
