The Main Screen

The main screen consists of the following parts:

• The Notation panel, which displays the current song as musical notation • The Toolbar, which contains tools for editing • The Virtual Synth Keyboard, which simulates a GM/GS synthesizer for playing and recording

Use the Notation Panel to enter music and create compositions, using buttons on the Toolbar to switch between different tools.

Alternatively, use the Virtual Synth Keyboard to record tracks directly, or to playback existing songs.

Toolbar Buttons

The toolbar buttons are, from left to right:

AirPlay® Support

If AirPlay® is available, touch the icon at the top of the screen to route the audio from Symphonix Evolution to an AirPlay® device.

Please note that the AirPlay® connection will have a latency of between 1 and 3 seconds. As a result, it is recommended that this feature be used for playback of the Symphonix Evolution songs and not for real-time performances or real-time MIDI recording.

Page 7: Symphonix Evolution

Symphonix Evolution – Page 7 of 65

Virtual Synth Keyboard

The Virtual Synth Keyboard simulates a General Midi/GS synthesizer and may be used to playback and record music.

Use the Virtual Synth Keyboard just like a real piano, organ or electronic keyboard. Like a real keyboard, the Virtual Synth handles polyphony and up to 11 notes may be held down at the same time.

Of course, a real keyboard has many more keys than what can be shown on the display, so use the Keyboard Down and Keyboard Up

buttons to move the display along the length of a full sized keyboard.

Tracks

Each song in Symphonix Evolution can have up to 16 individual tracks, where each track may contain a different musical instrument. Think of a recording studio where different parts of a song are recorded on different tracks and then mixed together to make the final composition. Symphonix Evolution works the same way!

The Virtual Keyboard has a Track indicator that displays the current track that is being edited. Touch the indicator to display a Panel Menu for selecting a different track:

Highlight a track to change the "current" track used for notation and recording. Other options on this screen include:

• Name - Touch this field to change the name of the track. • Loop - When selected, this option will cause the track to auto-repeat during play back, causing it to loop. • Percussion - When selected, displays percussion symbols for selected notes • Octave - Causes the track to play at octaves higher or lower than notated. (This is equivalent to placing a 15va, 8va, etc symbol on the

clef) • Mute - When selected, the track will be muted during playback • Solo - When selected, other tracks will be muted during playback • Hide Others - When selected, other tracks will be hidden from the notation screen (playback will continue as normal).

Page 8: Symphonix Evolution

Symphonix Evolution – Page 8 of 65

Program/Presets

Each track may be set to a different instrument sound. Each instrument is assigned a "bank" and "program" number.

The Program indicator displays the preset (instrument) that applies to the current Track. Like the Track function, touching the Program Indicator displays a panel that allows the preset to be changed:

The Preset Selection screen allows presets to be chosen for the internal synthesizer and an external MIDI device. Use the "Internal/MIDI" switch to select whether you are choosing the preset for the internal synth or the external device.

To select a preset, select a Family in the left panel, followed by an instrument in the right panel.

When in MIDI mode, press the Select button next to the Device Name to choose an external device (see Device Manager for more details).

Other options on this screen include:

• Internal ON/OFF - Determines whether the internal synth should play notes for this track (equivalent to the "Local" button on the main screen, except that it applies to the current track only).

• MIDI ON/OFF - Determines whether a connected MIDI synth should play notes for this track (equivalent to the "MIDI" button on the main screen, except that it applies to the current track only)

• Sync ON/OFF - When active, use SYNC to automatically select presets in both internal and external devices simultaneously. When SYNC is turned off, the preset for the external MIDI device can be different to that used for the internal synth.

Page 9: Symphonix Evolution

Symphonix Evolution – Page 9 of 65

Channel

Each track may be set to a different MIDI Channel and each channel may only control a single instrument at a time.

The Channel Indicator displays the channel being used by the current Track. Touching the Channel Indicator displays a Panel that allows the channel to be changed:

Select the channel to be used and press the Done button to return to the main screen.

Drum Pad

Use the PAD button to toggle between the Virtual Synth Keyboard and the Virtual Drum Pad:

Use the drum pads to play or record percussion. In Pad mode, the and buttons are replaced by and . These buttons allow the Drum Kit to be changed. The following Drum Kits are available:

• Standard - A standard configuration of kicks, snare, cymbal, hi-hat and toms • Classic - Classic arrangement of kick, snare, cymbal, hi-hat and hand clap • Bongos - A set of bongo drums and accents • Crash - A set of cymbals • Salsa - A Latin American feel

The main area of the screen is used for entering music notation, and various song parameters can be setup using the tools on this page.

Setting the Song Title

The Song Title sets the name of your song, and is displayed at the top of the screen. When you first start Symphonix it defaults to "Untitled".

Touch the title to enter a new value, followed by Done:

The Track Manager

Touch the Track Name in the top left corner of the screen to open the Track Manager:

Page 11: Symphonix Evolution

Symphonix Evolution – Page 11 of 65

From the Track Manager it is possible to:

• Change the title of each track • Change the preset of each track • Change the MIDI channel of each track • See which tracks are in use • Split tracks • Merge tracks • Duplicate tracks • Clear tracks

Setting the Track Title

First open the Track Manager, and touch the title of a track to enter a new name:

Changing Preset and Channel

First open the Track Manager, and touch the Preset or MIDI Channel for a track to change the settings directly without leaving the Track Manager screen.

Splitting a Track

It is possible to split a track into two, by using a "Split Point". The Split Point is a note, and everything above the split point will move to one track, and everything below it will move to a second track.

First open the Track Manager, and use the Split icon to open the Split Track function:

First select the "Split Track", which is the track to be split into two.

Next, select a Split Point by choosing an appropriate note and octave. The default is C4, which is middle "C".

Choose an Output Track. Everything below the Split Point will be moved to this track, and all notes above the Split Point will remain in the original track.

Use the "Re-Score" option to determine whether the existing notation should be copied "as is", or rescored to include rests. If this option is ON (the default) then the original note timing will be preserved along with all notation symbols. If this option is OFF then both tracks will be re-scored as if they were imported from separate MIDI files. This preserves the timing but will result in a loss of some notation symbols such as coda, custom text and lyrics.

Page 12: Symphonix Evolution

Symphonix Evolution – Page 12 of 65

Merging Tracks

Two tracks can be combined into a single track with the Merge function. First, open the Track Manager and touch the Merge button :

Select the two tracks to be merged. The "Re-Score" option may be used to combine the notation of each track without any regard to placement or timing (this preserves all existing arrangements). Turn the "Re-Score" switch to the ON position to re-notate the track as if the notes have been played together. This will preserve timing, but will change notation symbols to accommodate the adjustments.

Duplicating a Track

The Track Manager can be used to quickly make an exact copy of a track. First highlight the track to be copied, and press the Duplicate button at the bottom of the screen:

The Duplicate function will overwrite the destination track and replace it with an exact copy of the source track.

Clearing a Track

Open the Track Manager, and use the Erase button to empty the contents of a track.

Page 13: Symphonix Evolution

Symphonix Evolution – Page 13 of 65

Setting the Clef for a Track

The Clef for each Track is displayed on the left side of the Notation:

Touch the clef symbol to change it:

Symphonix Evolution will automatically transpose existing notes onto the new clef.

Note: The treble and bass clefs can indicate 8va/vb and 15va/vb if the track has been transposed up or down by one or two octaves.

Using the Percussion Clef

The Percussion Clef is a special mode that allows Device Percussion Key Maps to be used. This takes advantage of MIDI drum kits where each note has a different sound.

In Percussion mode, each line of the staff can be defined to represent a specific note and symbol.

Follow these steps to use the percussion clef:

1. Set the track MIDI channel and preset so that they match the percussion channel and preset defined in the device manager. (Important: If this step is not followed the instrument list will not be displayed!).

2. Change the clef for the track to "Percussion" 3. A gear icon is displayed under the clef. Touch this icon to set up the staff

Highlight the sound that you want to use in the staff, and switch the "Use in Staff" box to the "ON" position. The Staff Position will be automatically set based on the Device Manager setup, but may also be changed here if you would like to use a non-standard placement.

Page 14: Symphonix Evolution

Symphonix Evolution – Page 14 of 65

Setting the Time Signature

The Time Signature of the music is displayed on the left side of the Notation:

The time signature defaults to "4/4" (4 beats per measure, each beat is a quarter note). Change it by pressing the Time Signature button on the Toolbar. This will open a panel that has a set of different time signatures to choose from:

Note that changing the Time Signature will not cause existing music to be rearranged and measure positions will need to be manually edited after making this change - It is a good idea to be sure of the correct time signature before entering too many notes into the song!

Setting the Key Signature

The Key Signature for the song is displayed on the left side of the Notation, before the Time Signature. To change the Key Signature, touch the

button on the Toolbar. This will open a panel that has a set of different key signatures to choose from:

After selecting a new signature, any existing notes will be re-scored so that the accidentals (sharps and flats) are in the new key.

Page 15: Symphonix Evolution

Setting the Tempo

The current Tempo is displayed above the Virtual Synth Keyboard:

Touch the tempo to display a control panel:

Use the number keyboard to enter a tempo directly, or scroll the list of commonly-used tempos. Alternatively, use the "- Slower" or "+ Faster" buttons to decrease or increase the current tempo.

Adding Notes

To add a music note or symbol into the score:

1. Touch the Note button 2. A panel will open that displays a set of music symbols

3. Touch the symbol that you would like to add to the score. 4. The Note button will change to reflect the new symbol. This symbol will remain in effect until the Note Selection panel is used to

change it. 5. To add the symbol onto the music score, press and hold down the Note button and drag the note over to the music. While dragging the

note, the Note Positioning Tool will display, allowing accurate placement:

6. When you are happy with the note placement, release your finger to "set" the position.

Dots and Triplets

To add a dotted or triplet note:

1. Touch the Length button 2. A panel will display Dots and Triplets

3. Touch a symbol to select it. The Note button will change to reflect your choice. 4. Drag the note onto the score using the Note button. The length of the note will now be set to the duration you have chosen.

Page 17: Symphonix Evolution

Symphonix Evolution – Page 17 of 65

Sharps and Flats

To add sharps, flats or naturals to the music:

1. Touch the Accidentals button 2. A panel will display Accidentals

3. Touch a symbol to select it. The Note button will change to reflect your choice. 4. Drag the note onto the score using the Note button. The note will be drawn using the symbol you have chosen.

Auto Alignment of Notes in Other Tracks

When notes are entered into the music it is often desirable to line up the different tracks so that any notes positioned vertically in the same column will play at the same time regardless of which track they are in. Touch the button located just above the Note selection button on the main screen to activate "Auto Sync" mode, which will automatically recalculate this alignment whenever new notes are added to the score.

Note that when Auto Sync mode is active, the horizontal "column" position of new notes is automatically determined by Symphonix Evolution.

Beams and Ties

Sometimes it is useful to tie or beam notes together. This can be done as follows:

1. Touch the first note and hold it down. The note will turn orange and a connecting line will be drawn to wherever your finger moves while it is held down:

2. Drag the connecting line until the second note you want to connect is also drawn in orange:

3. Release the touch. A menu will appear containing options to beam or tie:

4. Choose the option to Tie or Beam. The notes will now be connected:

Similarly, to untie or unbeam notes, use the touch/drag function to highlight them in orange and choose the "Untie" or "Unbeam" menu options when prompted.

Page 18: Symphonix Evolution

Symphonix Evolution – Page 18 of 65

Measures

Use the Measures button to add or remove a Measure (bar) from the score:

1. Touch and DRAG the Measure button to drag a bar into the song 2. Dragging a measure onto an existing bar to remove it

Touch the Measures button without dragging to Go directly to a measure.

Repeat Measures

Add a Repeat to one or measures by following these steps:

1. Select the measures to be modified. The first and last columns of the selection must both be a measure:

2. Touch inside the selection to display the Options menu:

3. Choose the "Repeat" option. Symphonix Evolution will ask how many times to repeat the selection. Specifying "1" will repeat the section once (i.e. it will play twice). Specifying "0" will remove an existing repeat:

Page 19: Symphonix Evolution

Symphonix Evolution – Page 19 of 65

4. Touch "Done" to confirm the repeat count. The measures will now be displayed with Repeat notation and will play back accordingly:

Key Changes

Many songs do not keep the same key signature throughout - quite often a piece of music will require a key change. With Symphonix it is possible to enter a Key Change at any point in the music.

Changing all notes after a certain point in the song to be scored in a new Key Signature:

1. Select the position from which the new key will take effect, by touching the top of the Notation panel until a green column is displayed.

2. Use the Key Signature button to select the new key.

Changing a range of notes temporarily to a new Key Signature, and then back again to the original Key:

1. Select the range of notes to be edited, so that they are highlighted with a green background.

2. Use the Key Signature button to select the new key.

Time Signature Changes

It is possible for the Time Signature to change in the middle of a song. A time signature change can be added as follows:

1. Select the position from which the new Time Signature will take effect, by touching the top of the Notation panel until a green column is displayed.

2. Touch the Time Signature button to select the new time signature

The time signature will be added at the selected position

Tempo Changes

To add a tempo change to the current song:

1. Touch the Notation panel at the very top until a green bar is displayed, to select that position in the score. 2. Touch the Tempo and change the tempo. Now when the Enter button is touched, the system will insert a tempo change event at the

selected position. The main tempo is not affected.

Now when playing the song, the tempo will change to the new value at that point in the music.

Page 20: Symphonix Evolution

Symphonix Evolution – Page 20 of 65

Scrolling the Notation

The Notation Panel can be scrolled in two different ways:

1. Touch and drag the notation directly. Do this by touching a white area of the screen where there are no notes, and drag to a new position. 2. Use the scrolling/thumb tracker on the bottom edge of the Notation panel. Touch anywhere along this line to scroll directly to that

position. This provides a quick way to navigate large compositions.

Scrolling Directly to a Measure Number

It is possible to jump directly to a Measure by touching the Measure button :

Enter the desired measure number and touch the "Done" button to position the display on that measure.

Controlling the Track Display

By default, the Notation panel displays the current track in black, with other tracks in a translucent gray. This makes it easy to see how the different tracks interact, but it can make it difficult to use the Notation to play a single part because of all the overlapping notes.

Use the button in the lower left corner of the Notation panel to toggle the display of other tracks. When Hide mode is active only the current track is visible.

Note that Hide mode does not affect playback or recording.

Symbols and Adornments

The Symbol Pad

Touch the Pad button to toggle between the Virtual Synth Keyboard, Drum Pad and Symbol Pad views.

The Symbol Pad presents a pallet of notation symbols that can be dragged directly into the score:

Note that not all symbols currently result in MIDI output and are purely for adornment at this time. "Active" symbols are discussed below - scroll this page down to see more details.

Note and Rest Entry

The top three rows on the Symbol Pad contain all of the most common note and rest symbols. This avoids the need to select each note type individually and can save a lot of time during the creation of a score.

Sustain Pedal

Use the symbol to drag a "sustain pedal on" event into the music, and the symbol to release the pedal. This symbol affects the current track only.

"Hold" or Pause

Use the or symbols to "hold" the music at the specified position. The notes at that position will be played with twice their normal duration.

Loudness

The through to symbols can be used to control the loudness of the notes being played. These symbols affect the current track only and work by adjusting the MIDI note velocity.

Note Velocity

This control is the default MIDI velocity used for new notes. Use the Velocity control to adjust the loudness of each individual note as you drag it into the score.

Page 22: Symphonix Evolution

Symphonix Evolution – Page 22 of 65

Text Adornment or Comment Entry

Text may be placed anywhere in the score by using the symbol. Drag the symbol over the score and a text cursor will be displayed.

Removing Text

To remove text adornments, first touch the text so that it is displayed in orange, and then touch the Delete button on the main toolbar:

Coda, Segno and Fine

The coda, segno and fine symbols can be used to alter the flow of the music, by jumping from one passage to another. Note that these symbols affect all tracks.

• Use the "D.C. al fine" symbol to mark a point at which the music should be replayed from the beginning of the song, until a "Fine" symbol is reached.

• Use the "D.C. al coda" symbol to mark a point at which the music should be replayed from the beginning of the song, until a coda symbol is reached. The playback will then jump to the next coda .

• Use the "D.S. al fine" symbol to mark a point at which the music should be replayed from the last segno (sign) , until a "Fine" symbol is reached.

• Use the "D.S. al coda" symbol to mark a point at which the music should be replayed from the last segno (sign) , until a coda symbol is reached. The playback will then jump to the next coda .

Note that placement of the symbols is very important to ensure correct playback. For best results, line up the right edge of the symbol with the position at which you would like the symbol to take effect.

Page 23: Symphonix Evolution

Jumping to the Previous or Next Event

Use these buttons to quickly scroll the song to the next or previous coda, segno or MIDI controller event in the current track. This can be useful when editing a song. When an event is found, the position is automatically selected.

Jumping to the First or Last Note in a Track

Use these buttons to quickly scroll the current track position to the first or last note.

Editing Notation

During music entry, or after recording music, it is likely that some editing will be required.

Selecting Notes

It is possible to select a range of notes, and many of the editing functions work by acting on a selection. Selections work on vertical "columns" of notes, where all of the notes that are aligned vertically are in the same "column".

To select a single column:

1. Touch the top part of the Notation panel

2. The column will turn green to indicate that it has been selected:

To select a range of columns:

1. First select the first column in the range, as outlined above. 2. Now use the same procedure to select the last column in the range, scrolling the screen if necessary. The system will automatically select

all columns in between the first and second columns:

3. Alternatively, you can touch the first column and then drag your finger to the second column. Hold and drag to the edge of the screen to

automatically scroll if the selection is larger than a single screen.

To select an entire Measure:

1. Double tap (tap twice quickly) the top part of the screen in the Selection area, above the measure to be selected 2. All notes in the measure will be selected.

To select the entire Song:

1. Triple tap (tap three times quickly) the top part of the screen in the Selection area 2. All notes in the Song will be selected.

Page 25: Symphonix Evolution

Symphonix Evolution – Page 25 of 65

Using the Clipboard

Once a selection has been made, touch anywhere inside the Selection to access the Clipboard:

• Use the Cut option to move the selected notes into the Clipboard. The notes will be deleted from the current position. • Use the Copy option to move the selected notes into the Clipboard without deleting them from the current position. • Use the Paste option to paste previously copied or cut notes. To Paste notes you will first need to Select the column in which the notes

will be inserted: Select the column, touch inside the Selection to access the Clipboard menu, and then choose 'Paste' • Use the Delete option to delete the selected notes without saving them to the clipboard. (This is the equivalent to "Deleteing a

Selection", below).

Deleting a Selection

Deleting a Selection will remove the highlighted notes and shift the following notes so that they fill the gap. To delete a selection:

1. Select the notes to be deleted.

2. Touch the Delete button 3. The selected notes will be deleted.

Clearing a Selection

Sometimes it is desirable to delete all of the notes in a selection, but leave the space clear so that new notes may be entered without disrupting the following parts of the score:

1. Select the note columns to be cleared

2. Touch the Clear button 3. The selected columns will be cleared.

Inserting Space for New Notes

To make room for new notes in the middle of an existing piece of music:

1. Select the columns to be inserted. The first column in the selection will be the insertion point, and the width of the selection will be used to set the number of columns to insert.

2. Touch the Insert button 3. New space will be created in the selected columns, and the existing columns will be shifted to the right.

Page 26: Symphonix Evolution

Deleting a Single Note or Rest

To delete a single note or rest:

1. Touch the note to be deleted and hold it down until it turns orange.

2. Without releasing, drag the note to the delete button. The note will be deleted.

Deleting a Measure

To delete a Measure, use the same procedure as that used to add a Measure. Dragging a measure over the top of an existing measure will remove that measure.

Editing a Note

It is possible to edit the properties of a single note or rest:

1. Touch the Note to be edited. 2. The note will turn orange and the Edit Note panel will be displayed:

3. Touch a button to perform an editing task. From left to right, the functions available are:

Change Changes the note symbol to that of the current symbol. For example, if the note was entered originally as a quarter note and it is necessary to change it to an eighth note, first select the eighth note as if a new note is to be dragged into the score. Then use the Edit Note function to Change the existing note to the new symbol.

Flip Stem Toggles the note's stem direction from up to down, and vice versa. Up Transposes the note up by one semitone. Down Transposes the note down by one semitone. Delete Deletes the note (this is an alternative to dragging it to the Delete button on the main toolbar) Untie Unties the note if it is tied to another note. Unbeam Unbeams the note if it is connected to another note.

Page 27: Symphonix Evolution

Symphonix Evolution – Page 27 of 65

Transposing

It is possible to transpose the entire song or just a selection:

1. If only a section of music is to be transposed, first Select the required note columns.

2. Touch the Transpose button 3. The Transpose Panel will be displayed:

4. Touch the "Up" or "Down" buttons to move the score up or down by one semitone. The Transpose panel will remain open to assist in

transposing by more than one semitone at a time.

Controller Events

Use the Controller Button on the main screen to add or edit MIDI Controller events.

MIDI Controller events can be inserted into the song in two different ways:

1. Touching and dragging from the Controller button on the main screen to a column in the music

2. First selecting the column and then touching the Controller button.

This opens the Controller Panel:

This option is designed to give precise control over the events and assumes a knowledge of how MIDI works. (The Piano Roll view also contains a graphical MIDI Controller Editor that can be used to make rapid adjustments, especially for pitch bend etc).

The columns displayed are:

• Time - The Relative MIDI Ticks between the start of the column and the event. There are 576 ticks per quarter note, and Symphonix allows the timing to be entered directly for maximum precision.

• Event - The event type. This will be: Aftertouch, Control, Program Change, Channel Aftertouch or Pitch Bend. • Parameter - Parameters for the event. Each event type requires one or more parameters (see below).

Touch the Edit button to delete or add events in the list:

Page 28: Symphonix Evolution

Symphonix Evolution – Page 28 of 65

Click the Add button to create a new Event:

Enter a Relative Time, Event Type and Data in the spaces provided, then touch the OK button to save the changes.

Each event type requires different Data, entered as one or more comma-separated values. All values are in decimal:

Event Type Data Example

Aftertouch The MIDI Note to which aftertouch is to be applied, followed by the aftertouch value 60, 45

Control A MIDI Controller ID and data value. 7, 127 Program Change A MIDI program change (preset) number, from 0 to 127 54 Channel Aftertouch An aftertouch value to be applied to the channel 45

Pitch Bend A pitch bend value from 0 to 16383, where 8192 represents "centred". Symphonix sets the pitch bend range to +/- 2 semitones by default. 8192

SysEx A MIDI System Exclusive message. Data can be entered directly, or selected from a list of device messages (if defined) F0 41 32 00 06 00 F7

To delete an existing event, touch the symbol next to the event, followed by the button.

Page 29: Symphonix Evolution

Undo

The last editing change can be reversed using the Undo function. Use the Action button to access the Actions menu:

Choose the "Undo Last Action" option to undo the last editing change. Choosing "Undo" again will restore the state back to what it was before Undo was used.

Note: When Step Time recording is active, Undo will restore the state back to what it was prior to activating record mode. The Undo state is not kept for individual note entry in this mode. Similarly, when Real Time recording is active the Undo function will restore the entire track back to what it was prior to recording.

Sheet Music View

Sheet Music view changes the normal editing screen so that it displays more like conventional sheet music, that is in Portrait orientation with multiple lines of music per page.

Sheet Music View is useful in several different ways:

• It displays more of the music at the same time, making it easier to see the flow of the music

• It is easier to see the relationship between the timing of notes in different tracks

• During playback, the music progresses a page at a time instead of scrolling from right to left. This makes it easier to accompany the music

Switching to Sheet Music View

To activate Sheet Music View, press the icon located in the top right corner of the display:

The screen will redraw in portrait orientation.

Returning to Normal Editing Mode

When in Sheet Music mode you can return to normal editing mode at any time by touching the icon in the top right corner of the display:

Connecting a MIDI Device

Symphonix Evolution supports compatible MIDI devices attached via the USB Camera Connection Kit:

1. Ensure that the MIDI device is NOT connected. 2. Start the Symphonix Evolution application. 3. Connect the MIDI device. 4. After a few seconds, the device will be detected by Symphonix and will respond to music or keyboard events.

Local and MIDI modes

Use the button to toggle "Local Mode" on or off. If Local mode is on, music can be heard through the internal speaker. If Local mode is off, no music will play through the internal speaker.

Use the button to toggle "MIDI Mode" on or off. If MIDI mode is on, music will be played through an external MIDI device. If MIDI mode is off, MIDI input will still be received but will not sound through the internal speaker.

If an external MIDI device is connected it is recommended that Local Mode be disabled. This will reduce the CPU overhead when playing or recording music by turning off the virtual synthesizer, making it possible to work with more complicated songs.

Symphonix Evolution – Page 65 of 65

• Reset Volume After Playback - During song playback it is possible to adjust the volume control for each track, but Symphonix Evolution normally resets the volume after playback has finished (this is to preserve MIDI volume control messages that were originally saved in the song). Use this setting to prevent the volume from being reset so that any changes are kept as the new track default volume the next time the song is played.

• Metronome Beat and Bar - Use these options to set the percussion notes (on MIDI channel 10) used for the metronome, if the defaults are not suitable for your MIDI keyboard.

• Save Track Setup as Default - Press this button to save the current track preset assignments (including external devices and channel assignments) as the default for new songs.
