Symbiosis is when an animal uses another animal for resources

SymbiosisDefinition: A close relationship between individuals of two or more species.
● Partners in symbiosis have an effect on each others’ lives. This could be an affect on their ability to survive or reproduce.
● Symbioses are classified by which species benefits from the relationship.
● Four main types of Symbiosis:○ Mutualism○ Commensalism○ Parasitism○ Predation
MutualismA relationship in which BOTH species benefit.
Examples:
● Bees & the flowers they pollinate.● Oxpecker & Zebra (parasites, warning calls)● Humans & Plants●
ParasitismA relationship in which one organism (parasite) feeds on the living body of the other organism.
Examples:
● Mosquitos● Ticks● Brood Parasites● Tapeworms
CommensalismA relationship in which one organism benefits and the other is unaffected.
Examples:
● Cattle Egrets● Hermit Crabs● Whale Barnacles
PredationA one-time relationship in which one organisms feeds on another resulting in death.
Examples:
● Lion & a Cape Buffalo
● Bear & Fish● Cat & Mouse● Fox & Rabbit
