S\L\'N'\ blUe dOt flaShbUlbSSylvania research leads the way. From the timeSylvania first adopted the Blue Dot as a safeguardagainst delective flashbulbs, the company has con, tinuously sought to improve flashbulb design andperformance. Development of Sylvania's primer, coated, super-sensitive filament gives instantaneousfiring of the filler. Sylvania's glass stem support {or

filaments in miniature flashbulbs means surer firinevery time. Sylvania research with Zirconium has leto the development of miniature, even sub-miniatureflashbulbs with the lieht output of bulbs four timelarger. And with Sylvania's invention of the remarkable Blue Dot Flashcube, you get four tiny qualittlashbulbs and {our reflectors in one sealed cube.

THE WORLD'SMOST POPULARFLASHBULB!Now Sylvania blue bulbsare recommended Jor allblack-and-white and mostamateur color films. This is why Flashcubesonly come in blue.

sYL\,1\NrA blUe dOt flaShgubeSThere has never been a photolamp with such fea.tures and benefits. Flashcube is designed to fit thelatest flashcube-model cameras and adapters. lt letsyou take four flash pictures without changing bulbs

Syivania's Blue Dot, the original Blue Dot in the industry, is a guarantee of qual-ity. The dot is actually a chemical-an ultra'sensitive material inside the llash-bulb that remains blue as long as the bulb is operational; turns pink i{ there's adefect. There's a special kind of confidence that goes with using Sylvania tlash-bulbs. The Blue Dot tells you that the bulb is good-before you use it. Therefore,no \a,asted film.Blue Dot-built-in bulb tester.

Tough, color-corrected salety coating contains MM59 to neutralize lacquer odor.Even ly-d istributed combustible filler assures consistent peak light outputand syn ch ron ization.

Primer-coated super-sensitive filament assures tiring even with weak batteries.One-piece aluminum base gives perlect seating, assuresperlect electrical contact.

Positive trouble-free positioning in flash reflector.High Boiivian tin content in base-solder resists corrosion, eliminates burnishingor moistening-assures positive electrical contact.

    01020304050607080TIM E IN MILLISECONDS

Graphlike diagrams next to the flashbulbs tell at a glance 3 key lacts about thespeciJic flashbulbs in terms of light intensity (Lumens):1. How rapidly the lamp reaches its peak intensity (indicates correct synchroni-zation).

How much light output is obtainable. How long the bulb remains at or near its peak (determines most effectiveshutter speeds).

Each chart shows simple plottings of the intensjty oJ {lash for both clear andblue bulbs. The amount of intensity is measured in "Millions of Lumens." Thetime interval is in "Milliseconds" (a millisecond is 1 / 1000th oJ a second).Nole: Flashcubes are not measured in Lumens, but in a unit of light measure-ment called B.C.P.S. which stands for BEAM CANDLE POWER SECONDS. When'ever a reflector is used as an integral part of a lamp, it is more meaningful andaccurate to rate it in B.C.P.S. than Lumens. A lumen unit is used to describe alight source where light is going olf in all directions. ln the Flashcube, where theretlector is part ot the light source and the light is directional, we are only in-terested in the actual candle power reaching the subject. Hence, B.C.P.S.-Beam Candle Power Seconds.Clear or blue, all Sylvania llashbulbs are coated with a thin, tough Jilm ol Iacqueras a protection against breaking or shattering. For clear bulbs, the coating isoptically clear, will not affect color balance even when used with the most criti-cal color lilms for artificial light. On Sylvania blue {lashbulbs, the coating iscarefully color corrected and balanced under the most rigid laboratory condi-tions. This provides maximum Jidelity when used with daylight color tilms. Whenused with black and white films the coating has little or no effect on the ex-posure due to the characteristics in latitude of the film itself.

The blue top decreases light spilover. The blue top increases Iamp efficiency bshielding the lamp, boosts lamp life by dissipatingheat more rapidly than ordinary coatings.ASA CODES: Every Sylvania projector lamp is codewith three letters assigned by the American Standards Association. This combination of Ietters referto a specific type projector lamp and should bused when ordering.DOUBLE BRANDING: On some Sylvania Blue Toprojector lamps, you will find "double branding"that is, tryo ASA codes. This means the lamp wiwork jn projectors calling for either lamp type. Eveif the old lamp was a clear top, your customer shouldnot be concerned if he receives a double-brandedSylvania Blue Top proiector lamp as a replacementThe Sylvania Blue Top will work just as efficientlyif not more so.RATED VOLTAGE; Unless otherwise noted, all Sytvania projector lamps are rated at 120 volts. A lampwjth a rated ljie oI 25 hours will operate for onl15 hours (approx.) at 125 volts, wiih about 15%more light output and at a color temperature abou50'K higher. At lower voltages, lamp life increasesbut brightness and color temperature decrease.IMPORTANT: A projector's cooling system is designed to operate efficiently only with specitic lampwattages. Lamps of higher wattage than recom-mended will not cool adequately, may damage opiical system, motor and,/or film.

    S\lL\\lA projector lamps

tru-beam Sylvania's revolutionary Dichroic Tru-Beam ProjectorLamps are available in two versions-DNE and thelow-voltage Super Q DNF. They were developed bySylvania for Bmm and Super-8 Movie Projectors.Their features include: Dichroic Tru-Beam Reflectorfor greater efficiency, vented 2-pin base and snap loc

socket for perfect alignment and cooler operationcollecting grid to reduce lamp blackening and lighloss. Ballast lilament insures longer life. The SupeQ Tru-Beam DNF uses quartz iodine principle tgive longer life, constant light output and true colorenditjon for the life o1 lamp.

tru-flector Again leading the industry, Sylvania designed theTRU-FLECTOR projector lamp. Compact, powerfuland with a sealed-in silver condensing reflector, thislamp simplifies the optical systems of 8mm movieprojectors by eliminating the need lor external re.flectors and condensing lenses. ln addition to thesnap-in base for easy prefocusing alignment, TRU'FLECTOR design permits operation with increasedlamp efficiency of over 300 percent! (A 150'watt

TRU FLECTOR in an 8mm projector provides thsame screen brightness as a much larger 5oo-walamp in conventional optical systems.) Furthermorerecent modifications, utilizing "internal ballast costruction," offer two-part filaments-Jar more ruggeand lasting. The result: a lamp that actually "lets yknow" before it burns out (by dimming) that itapproaching the end of its useful, rated life!

t'x how tru-llector andtru.beam workln the standard projectionsystem, a reflector behind thelamp and a condenser in frontcollect only a small portionof ihe licht and direct it ontothe film. An objective lenscollects the light that passesthrough the film and directsit at th screen. The fficlencyof this system is quite lirnited.ln the Tru-Flector or Tru-Beam system, an internal re'flector acts as a condenser, collects almost a full hemis-phere of light and focuses itdirectly on the film. lnsteadol the lieht loss with standardoptical sysiems, the objectivelens collects almost the fulllight output of the lamp anddirects the brighter image

S\L\''ANLA how to identify a defective projector lamp

Just as the projector is a delicate, precjsion instrument, so is its "heart"-the projector lamp. And,just as the projector may lail to operate whenabused, so may a bulb "blow" or refuse to workany longer.Sylvania's engineers examine every Iamp returnedfor repiacement and can determine by inspectionwhy a projector lamp {ailed.
