40 years strong in 2016 2016 was a terrific year and we are grateful to you, our donors, and to all who help make our service to children and elders a success. In 2016 our child care staff cared for 800 children in nine locations. Our two newest sites at Stranahan

and Sylvan almost doubled in volume. We are so grateful to be able to serve this many children. Our vision for Sylvania’s children to

have a safe child care environment and their working parents to have peace-of-mind was so evident this past year. And our gratitude overflows to Sylvania Schools and the use of their facilities to make it all happen.

Our senior center also had another great year. Helping senior citizens live a vibrant life is the very important work that we do. We educate them, keep them mobile, we keep them connected to other people, and to the community. All programs are designed to promote healthy aging for

the 250 seniors per day that participate. Our national accreditation was renewed for another five years, which helps ensure excellence in nine crucial areas. We are privileged to serve the Sylvania community and are grateful to all our community partners.

Thank you Sylvania for allowing us to serve you for 40 years.

Sylvania Senior Center “I started taking the Body Recall class 15 months ago. Initially I was only providing transportation for a 90-year old friend, and I thought, why not try it, she doesn’t need a walker or a cane! Due to budget constraints, I thought I wouldn’t be able to take it, but I ended up qualifying through your fee assistance program. It’s made a big difference in my life. The deep breathing and all the stretches have helped me physically and emotionally. Words cannot express how grateful I am. I’ve been so blessed by it.”

-Becky H.

National Accreditation Sylvania Senior Center

From a grandparent raising her grandson:

“Receiving a scholarship from SCS has helped ease the burden of our grandson’s child care costs. It is greatly appreciated.“

- Hill View Grandparent

$15,000 + of scholarship funds were spent to keep children in care rather than home alone.

Sylvania Child Care

452 children per day were cared for in 2016 in the before/after school care and preschool programs, all in a safe, nurturing environment.

Sylvania Child Care was fortunate to partner with Be Instrumental to offer music education to our after school children at Central Trail Elementary.

Preschool on Election Day. Each cast their private ballot for which snack to eat that day, and which game to play.

As part of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) challenge, children worked at making the longest chain from one sheet of construction paper.

Our mission: To provide safe, quality child care in a learning environment.
