Take everyday actions to stay healthy.

• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.

• Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spreadthat way.

• Stay home if you get sick. CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

Hand-Washing GuidelinesTips for good hand washing;

1. Do it often - Wash before and after eating and preparing food; after using restroom facilities; changing

diapers; blowing your nose/coughing/sneezing; before and after visiting the sick; after going shopping or

other public places; and after handling animals are a few examples of a good time to wash your hands.

2. Remove all hand jewellery before washing – Germs and soap can be left behind under rings.

3. Dispense a length of towel for drying prior to washing your hands – This will help to avoid cross

contamination by touching dispenser levers, faucets or other devices.

4. Wet your hands – Moistened hands help the soap lather quickly and more effectively.

5. Apply a small amount of liquid or foam soap to moistened hands – Spray or foam soaps with a

pump/lever or touchless automatic dispensing application are best. Bar soaps stay moist and attract germs

and bacteria and should be stored on a rack to dry out.

6. Vigorously rub your hands together for 15-20 seconds generating lather – Be sure to scrub between your

fingers, under your fingernails and the backs of your hands.

7. Rub hands together for a longer period if visibly soiled – Focus on the soiled areas to remove unwanted

dirt.

8. Rinse your hands well in a flowing stream of water – Rinse for at least 10 seconds in clean running water,

do not dip your hands into standing water. 9. Dry your hands thoroughly with a good quality paper towel – Use quality single use paper towels and

ensure your hands are thoroughly dry. Dry hands reduce the risk of cross contamination from hard surfaces.
