2011–12 MACALESTER MEN’S ROSTER

2011–12 MACALESTER WOMEN’S ROSTER

Head Coach Beth WhittleBeth Whittle is in her second year as head coach of the men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams.

An assistant swimming coach at Washington University in St. Louis from 2005 to 2009, Whittle moved to the Twin Cities with her husband Tim Whittle, who became Mac’s men’s basketball coach prior to the 2009 to 2010 season.

“I am looking forward to the challenge of building on the success of Macalester’s Swimming & Diving program,” says Whittle.

“I am passionate about working with incredibly talented and motivated student-athletes. Macalester offers an excellent education, impressive athletic facilities, and the opportunity for student-athletes to pursue excellence in both the classroom and the pool. I am thankful for the opportunity to lead this team and will do all I can to support the student-athletes’ experience and make this season special and memorable.”

The former Beth Slaughter spent two seasons as an assistant swimming coach at the University of Washington in Seattle, where she served as the women’s recruiting coordinator, men’s and women’s academic coordinator, and head mas-ters swimming coach.

During her two years at the University of Wash-ington, Whittle helped guide the women to a combined 23-9 record and the men to a 21-6 record. The Huskies also had 11 NCAA qualifiers and broke 22 school records during Whittle’s stint at UW. Whittle came to UW after a two-year stay at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. During the 2002–03 season, she assisted the men’s and women’s teams in posting 15 NCAA qualifying times as both squads took third place at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships.

A four-year letter-winner at Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore., Whittle won the 200-yard backstroke national title in 1996 en route to 20 All-America citations during her career. She also earned Northwest Conference Female Swimmer of the Year honors as a sophomore (1995) and senior (1997). She will be inducted into the Linfield College Athletic Hall of Fame in November 2011.

An Albany, Ore., native, Whittle received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Linfield in 1997, and a master’s degree in physi-cal education/athletic administration from Idaho State University in 2001.

Beth and Tim Whittle live in Minneapolis with their two-year-old daughter, Summer Elizabeth, and baby boy, Banks Nolin.
