No Fees Required: Opening Access to University Content - Michelle Armstrong and Julia Stringfellow, Room 201 Increasing access to university collections is a great benefit for all library communities. This session will look at how access to university records, both born digital and originally in paper, is improved by providing them in an open, digital format. Benefits for different types of libraries and patrons will be highlighted. Features of digital asset management systems used at Boise State will also be discussed. Cooking Up a Batch of Books Teens Will Devour - Gregory Taylor, Room 106 What’s the recipe that will get teens reading and have them clamoring for more? Good books, of course! I’ll book talk several of my recent favorites, including the titles that kids are chewing through in our library. Get your fork ready for this whirlwind smorgasbord! Professional Networking Among Librarians: Unnatural Acts - James Teliha, Room 105 Networking and socializing in a professional setting is a learned behavior. I will cover a number of strategies that I have used during my career in libraries. “The great good place”: Developing your library as a community destination Kate Baker, Room 107 Kate will facilitate a discussion about what third places are and how they function, as well as the importance of libraries as community centers. A number of resources and steps toward creating third places will be reviewed and discussed.

SMS Reference Service: A New Point of Need for Libraries - Margie Ruppel and Amy Vecchione, Room 201 Boise State University’s text reference service is growing in popularity among students. BSU librarians chose SMS software and started the service during Summer 2010. Join BSU librarians Amy Vecchione and Margie Ruppel for this session to learn what types of questions are asked through SMS, students’ opinions of the service, as well as helpful guidelines for starting your own text referencing service.

Terrific Teens: How to Build Community in a High School Library - Gena Marker, Room 105 Gena and her LABbies will present on the various events, activities and initiatives implemented this year at the Centennial High School Library.

Job searching panel - Kelsey Keyes, Room 106 This panel will discuss a variety of topics surrounding searching for a job as a librarian, interviewing and planning a presentation, hiring and being on a search committee.

El Día Delicioso! - Erica Compton, Room 107 Reach out to your Spanish speaking families on this special day celebrating children and books. This session will provide you with recipes for cooking up inviting El Día activities. A collection of the latest bilingual and Spanish children’s books will also be served up for your enjoyment. Let’s have a fiesta! *Salsa not included.

If so, then attend this hands-on training in Shelfari, a social network for book lovers. You’ll learn how to create a bookshelf of all the books you’ve read and plan to read, add your own book reviews, and more. We’ll also show you how to create a widget to put on your website to share your recommended reads to parents, teens, and readers everywhere.

Personal Learning Network Shirley Biladeau, Room 107 With all of the wonderful learning resources available, how do you organize the tools that are important to your professional and personal life? Explore the world of Personal Learning Networks to discover how it can bring order to some of the chaos in your life!

One Library’s Path to Serving New Americans Elizabeth Prusha-Parlor, Room 106 The path to serving New Americans, refugees and immigrants, in our library began with the rude knowledge that we were not prepared. This workshop will share a brief history of how we built our path and built community. It will share our strategies for participation, and discuss our outcomes. Included is a slide show featuring some of the programs we have provided through our Worlds Connect series, which highlights the countries of the various refugee and immigrant communities that we serve.

Mobile Technologies: Trends and Tools Memo Cordova, Room 201 This presentation will explore mobile computing trends and applications. Bring your mobile phone and be ready to play, experiment, and augment your professional, educational, and personal reality via a mobile computing system that happens to have phone capabilities.

Bookclubs for Homeschooled Kids Kimbre Chapman and Jennifer Riebe, Room 105 Creating great bookclubs for homeschool kids. Information on other specialized bookclubs will be included.

Pursuing an MLIS Degree – First Steps! Shirley Biladeau, panel facilitator (with Lizzy Walker, Fiona May, Colleen Bonnell, Kristine Brumley, & Gena Marker), Room 106 Learn from those who have taken the plunge to earn their MLIS. Several students who are currently working on their MLIS through University of North Texas will share their challenges and successes in balancing school, work and personal life.

Transforming Life After 50 Sue Walker and Erica Compton, Room 107 17 Idaho library staff have been selected as Fellows in the Transforming Life after 50 Western Regional Fellowship. The presentation will provide an overview of the program, introduce Idaho’s participating library staff, and begin the discussion on a statewide plan to collaboratively develop library services for Idaho’s citizens 50 and older.
