SWEDISH HEALTHCARE DELEGATION TRIP TO INDIA 2013

MESSAGE FROM THE EMBASSY OF SWEDEN - NEW DELHI

H.E. Mr. Harald Sandberg| Ambassador Photo: Pawel Flato

It is a great pleasure to welcome this Health Delegation,

representing both the Government of Sweden and industry, to

India October 07-10, 2013.

Sweden and India share a long and successful history of

cooperation. We have exchanged ideas, knowledge and

technology within many sectors and developed strong business

relations. Technology development and innovation is the key in

the India-Swedish partnership. India is a vibrant democracy

with a high potential of economic growth in the long run. It is

an important country for Swedish business. Health is an area

where Sweden and India have growing interest and intention to

strengthen bilateral ties and form strategic alliances. The

Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of

health care and public health, signed between the India and the

Sweden in February 2009, will soon complete the first five

years.

Healthcare is one of India's largest service industries and the

opportunities are equally compelling, from developing new

infrastructure and providing medical devices and equipment to

delivering telemedicine solutions and conducting cost-effective

clinical trials. Despite a huge public health infrastructure, there

is an enormous growth of the private health care market.

India's private hospitals provide high-end specialized healthcare

and have emerged as a destination for medical tourism.

I hope you have fruitful interaction with the public and private

sector representatives during your stay. On behalf of 'Team

Sweden' in India, we are happy to extend all our support.

Yours sincerely,

Harald Sandberg

Ambassador

SWEDISH HEALTHCARE DELEGATION TRIP TO INDIA 2013

MESSAGE FROM THE CONSULATE GENERAL - MUMBAI

I would like to welcome all the delegates of this health care

delegation to Mumbai – the city that never sleeps.

Maharashtra is one of the richest states in India, and it scores well

above average in terms of health care services. The national

government has committed itself to spend more resources on health

care, but one shouldn’t forget that a large portion of the funding for

public health care services stems from the states. It is actually the

state government that has the primary responsibilities for

administrating and funding health care services, and they pay for

nearly two thirds of total public health care costs. Maharashtra has

130 government hospitals, and we will visit two of them, and 8

primary health centers.

Sweden and India might differ when it comes to the structures of the

health care sector, but we are struggling with the same problems

regarding life-style related diseases, antibiotic resistance and infection

control.

I hope this visit will lead to a fruitful interaction between the

delegation and our Indian partners, where our common problems

can be discussed and where Sweden could contribute with our

technical and medical solutions to some of our common problems.

Enjoy the visit!

GRIPPINGHEART AB

GrippingHeart is a Swedish company that was founded in 2003 to

develop medical technology solutions for analyzing function in the

heart and circulatory system.

GrippingHeart founders Stig Lundbäck, MD PhD, and Jonas

Johnson, MSc, spent most of their careers studying the pumping

principles of the human heart, and used their scientific findings to

outline an innovative model for how the heart pumps and auto-

regulates the flow of blood throughout our bodies.

They showed that the heart’s pumping and auto-regulation of

blood, from a mechanical aspect, is working according to a

previously unknown pump technology, The Dynamic Adaptive

Piston Pump Technology (DAPP-technology). The DAPP-technology

can on the basis of fluid- and pump mechanical principles explain

how the heart behaves for circulating and regulating the blood

flow with such paradoxical high efficiency and precision in our

complex circulatory system.

The discovery of the DAPP-technology by Lundbäck as early as

1984 and the continuous development of the concept have made

it possible to model and analyze the heart in new ways by using

DAPP as a reference frame for the heart’s pump and regulating

mechanics which has been used to develop GrippingHeart’s unique

technology for quantifying cardiac mechanics.

TARSUS

TARSUS was founded in 1948 by the grandfather of the current

owner, Mr. Olow Sjöblom.

We develop, manufacture and sell high‐quality and functional

products in a modern design and competitive prices. Since the

1970’s we have manufactured products towards the medical

sector. We’ve had contracts with the government medical sector

since the 1980’s.

We are today one of the top Swedish suppliers in our segment:

examination tables, gynecology tables, emergency patient trollies,

ultra-light collapsible and standard IV stands, stainless‐steel tables

etc.

Our products are found in practically all Swedish hospitals and

nursing homes, as well as in many hospitals in many other

countries, primarily in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

User‐friendly, functional high quality products, fast delivery and

competitive prices are key words for us. “Swedish‐made”, with all

the good that it stands for, applies very much to our way of

working.

1989, we started a physiotherapy table line. Since then, Tarsus has

produced tens of thousands of portable and stationary massage

and therapy tables, sold world‐wide – very popular amongst the

national sports teams. We often say – and believe it to be true –

that TARSUS’ portable tables may very well be one of Sweden’s

most regular Olympic participants.
