Developing our people Nurturing our differences Aspiring for excellence

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are very much looking forward to welcoming all

children back in September and our individual

Win 50 books for your school with

While We Can't Hug

In these strange times, books can really help children to make sense of the

world - books like the gorgeous While We Can't Hug from Eoin McLaughlin and Polly Dunbar. The pair have collaborated on a sequel to The Hug,

which followed Hedgehog and Tortoise as they tried to find their perfect cuddle partner! Now, in While We Can't Hug, the duo know they can't get too close, but soon find other ways to show their love for each other. The book shows how we can all connect, even when we can't physically touch.

To celebrate While We Can't Hug, The Book Trust is delighted to team up with Faber to offer you the chance to win 50 books for your school! To enter, share photos or videos which show how you've been enjoying each other's company while

distancing - just like Hedgehog and Tortoise.Tweet your entries to @BookTrust and @FaberChildrens,

making sure you include the hashtag #WhileWeCantHug, by the closing date of 25 July.

News Links for Children

In school each week, teachers use

a range of news stories to keep

children aware of the wider world, interest them in

what is happening and to develop their general

knowledge and interest.

While we are closed, you may wish to use these links

with your children to read the stories together and to

discuss them. There is a definite “good feel” theme

this week!

Coronavirus: Warrington woman, 102, makes

'miraculous' recovery - BBC News

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-

53221261

This might be worth sharing with children to reassure

them about the virus.

Puppy believed stuck in rabbit hole for two weeks

comes home - BBC News

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-

53180849

This is quite remarkable and will make children smile.

Isolating ex-soldier leaves 'uninhabited island' - BBC

News

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-53129414 Talk about what it would be like to be completely on your own for a long period of time. What would you do to pass the time? First Viking ship excavation in a century begins in

Norway - BBC News

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-53204948 Of real interest to all those girls and boys who love the

Vikings, archaeology and ancient history.
