Swachhta Pakhwada, Cleanliness Drive for Swachh Bharat-Report of Activities(1 st to 15 th September,2018) In abidance with the direction of CBSE via Circular No:Acad-22/2018 CBSE/DIR.(ACAD)/2018 dates 07.08.2018Swachhata Pakawada was observed at our school from 1 st to 15 th September 2018 by organizing various participatory activities. Day 1 (1.9.2018)-Swachhata Shapath Day : The first day of the observance of Swachhta Pakhwada witnessed „Awareness of Swachhtha Pakhwada through the School Notice board which was displayed with Posters, paintings, slogans and cartoons on the theme Swachh Bharat and also circular and duty delegation of work to the staff for the Swachhtha Pakhwada. Oath (Swachhta Shapath) taking by the students , Principal teaching and non-teaching staff of the school was done during the Morning Assembly. The oath was administered by Charulatha of class XI. The students also expressed their thought on the importance of Cleanliness in their day to day life. 07.08.2018Swachhata Pakawada was observed at our school from 1st to 15th September 2018 by

organizing various participatory activities.

Day 1 (1.9.2018)-Swachhata Shapath Day :

The first day of the observance of Swachhta Pakhwada witnessed „Awareness of Swachhtha Pakhwada

through the School Notice board which was displayed with Posters, paintings, slogans and cartoons on the

theme Swachh Bharat and also circular and duty delegation of work to the staff for the Swachhtha

Day 2 ,3,4(2.9.2018 to 4.9.2018)-Swacchhta Awareness Day :

On 3-9-2018 students of class VI A performed a special assembly with the pursuit to create awareness on

Swachhta and its importance. They created awareness on Swachhta by delivering a speech on the

importance of Swacchta. .The students also enacted a skit on the need for safe disposal of garbage

particularly the polythene bags which are a great hazard to animals like cows. The message through the

drama was clear and lucid to evoke the thought of the children.The students along with their class

teachers undertook extensive cleaning of their respective classrooms to make it look spic and span. After

The volunteers of NSS along with the Swachhta Coordinator Smt. Nandini Anandkumar and NSS officer

Shri Jay Prakash undertook extensive cleaning of the campus by clearing the bushes, picking off plastic

items from the school ground and areas in the campus. The cleaning operation was flagged off by the

school principal Shri.N.Swaminathan. The school Principal along with Swacchta Coordinator and A senior

teacher of the school inspected the sanitary facilities in each and every corner of the school. Extensive

cleaning operation of the toilets was also undertaken by the sanitary assistants.

Day 5 (5-9-2018)-Green School Drive:

Efforts were made to weed out materials like broken furniture and unusable equipment.As part of Green

School Drive students donated plants to the school to be planted in the school compound.

Day 6 (6-9-2018)-Swachhata Participation Day :

Schools play a crucial role in forming, changing and establishing attitudes and values that are important

for environmentally responsible behaviour. Class 11 students conducted a special assembly on the theme

„Role of Individuals in Cleanliness‟. Poem recitation, Thought for the day and slogan on cleanliness

inspired the students a lot and ignited their mind towards their role in cleanliness. A skit was also enacted

insisting that passing the blame and responsibility on others will never bring the change, whereas

realizing individual role will bring the greatest change in achieving the dream of our Honourable Prime

Minister.

The skit carried a powerful message on the need for clean upkeep of the environment. They displayed

charts and flashcards to convey their message on cleanliness and hygiene. Later in the day various

competitions were conducted for generating awareness on cleanliness and hygiene. For students of class

XI Quiz on the theme „Cleanliness and hygiene‟ was conducted.Class XI B emerged as the winners.

Students of class X participated in poetry writing on the theme „Swachh Bharat‟. This was held in three

languages English, Tamil and Hindi. For students of class VIII a debate was held in English and Tamil on

the topic‟ Role of Individual or Government is important for the success of Swacchta program‟. In English

the Team favouring the Government won the debate and in Tamil the team favouring the role of

Individual won the debate.The students of class VII participated in Essay writing Contest on the topic

„Cleanliness is next to Godliness‟.

Day 7 (7-9-2018)-Hand Wash Day :

Class 11C students conducted special assembly to spread awareness on washing the hands

properly. They demonstrated the steps and various methods of hand washing with the help of charts and

demonstration by the students. An array of placard was shown to describe each step of hand washing.

Apart from this a mime was enacted to show how we are surrounded with germs and bacteria. The

show was mind blowing and received applause from the entire school. Colourful charts and placards were

prepared on the theme to create awareness on clean surrounding and personal hygiene. Various

advertisements were enacted by the students to educate the spectators on various materials available to

clean themselves.

As a part of the event class 5 students were taught how to wash hands properly using the five steps

displayed by the students. Class 5 teachers are involved in the activity of teaching the five steps to the

students. Videos on the need for hand washing and its importance were shown to the students.

Speaking on the occasion The Principal Shri.NSwaminathan insisted the importance of hand

washing and leading a healthy life. He appreciated the students for their vigorous involvement and for the

clean‟.

Day 8 (8.9.2018)-Personal Hygiene Day :

“Good Hygiene enhanced sound well-being”

As part of the assembly activity students of class VII A performed a skit on „Importance of Personal

hygiene‟. A short awareness session on the personal hygiene was conducted for the students of class VI.

This session aimed to demonstrate the important of maintaining good personal hygiene and illustrate the

importance of comprehensive cleaning to maintain a good health and a better personality in a certain

society. Personal hygiene plays vital in many reasons such as good health ,psychological issues etc.

Personal hygiene is as simple as hand washing which can reduce illness and infections.

The session helped the students in developing a better insight on how to take care of their

hands, body, tooth ,foot and clothes hygiene in day to day life. Different modules using smart boards were

presented to make the session more vital and appealing.120 students participated in the awareness

programme and they gained basic information about personal hygiene. They learnt many important

things about the personal hygiene which is very essential for a better life style and to maintain a good

health.

Teachers explained the students how to be dirt free. They explained the effective ways to

protect themselves and others from illness through personal hygiene. This included washing of ones hands

and also body. It involved being careful not to cough and sneeze on others. Good dental hygiene included

regular brushing and flossing said the teachers.

Good hygiene is one of the most effective ways to protect ourselves and others from much

illness. The teachers made the students with long and dirty nails to pare their nails at the end of the

awareness Session.

Day 9 and 10(9-9-2018 & 10-9-2018)-Community Participation Day:

The activities of this day were undertaken at a later date ie., on 12th and 14th owing to holiday and Bandh.

Day 11(11-9-2018)-Swachhta School Exhibition Day:

Morning Assembly was held by VIII – B students insisting cleanliness in the school ground, classrooms and other public places through skit, speech, Tamil poem, etc.The students have taken Swachhta pledge to ensure their surroundings‟ cleanliness. The students conveyed the moral responsibility that Swachhta Program doesn‟t stop with creating awareness and winning prizes in various events but should be a practice in daily life by all the students. The students were advised not to litter the waste papers, snacks covers and food wastes in the school ground and to be responsible in cleaning them if found. Later in the day ,Swachhta Exhibition was held in the school ground in an enclosed area. The exhibition was inaugurated by the correspondent Mr. Kannan Kalyanasundaram ji accompanied by the principal Shri.N.Swaminathan and Vice Principal Shri.Edwin Samuel. Inspiring pictures, attractive paintings and creative wealth from waste objects done by students from various classes were displayed. The prize winning essays, slogans and poems written by the school students in all the three languages Tamil, English and Hindi were also kept in display. The exhibition was organized by Smt. Sironmani, Mr. Kumar and Mrs. Edwin Mary and NSS Co-ordinator Mr,.Jayprakash under the guidance of the Swachhtha coordinator Mrs. NandiniAnandkumar. All the students from class III to class VIII and some teachers also

visited the exhibition. They were insisted to spread the message in their home surroundings. The exhibition was closed at 2.30 pm.

Day 12 (12-9-2018)-Swachh Water Day:

Students of class VIII C creating awareness on „Importance of Clean Water‟ through Thought for the Day,

Speech, Song and citations from ancient Tamil Literature. They also enacted a skit on the need to maintain

clean water in water bodies including drinking water. Awareness was also created on water borne disease.

Checking activity was undertaken by the office assistants to ensure the portable condition of drinking

water and the reverse osmosis set up in the school.

Students undertook Sloganeering and March past in a village in the vicinity of the school area. They raised

slogans on the need for a clean India, The need to plant trees, Avoiding plastics, better disposal of waste

and the like. Students with public address system and with placards in each hands shouted slogans to

create awareness on Swachhta.

Day 14 (14-9-2018)- Letter Writing Day :

Students of class XI drafted letters to SMC members for maintenance of School toilets and Schools.

Students of class VIII wrote letters to their parents regarding what they learnt in the past few days and

what they want their parents to do. The best three letters were shortlisted for award.

As a part of Community Service, NSS and NCC students of the school undertook cleanliness campaign at a

hamlet in Neravy named Class Street. Students cleaned the garbage strewn all over, collected and disposed

off the garbage with the help of the local Municipal truck.

Day 15 (15-9-18)-Prize Distribution Day:

The Valedictory day of the Swachhta Pakhwada was conducted on 17th, 15th being a holiday. Prizes were

distributed to the winners of different events held in connection with Swachhta Pakhwada. The In charge

teachers who conducted various events gave away the prizes to the winners. The valedictory closing of

Swachhta Pakhwada came to end with special address by Principal Shri. N. Swaminathan and a note of

Thanks by the Swachhta Coordinator Smt. NandiniAnandkumar.
