1.5Mn Registered vehicles in Manila, with a 400,000 population – about 4 vehicles for every person

Increase ratio of 1.7% cars per year

Manila Car sales boom – but with limited land resource

Issue 2: The rich and the poorThe rich are getting richer while the poor are getting poorer

Unequal distribution of resources

Filipinos are HOPEFUL not hopeless – An advantage

Crab mentality – A disadvantage

Issue 3: Polluted waterways

Manila suffers not only from polluted waterways but also from poor landscape planning

Severe flooding in the rainy season

Poor government planning

Poor garbage disposal (ie Informal settlers beside riverways without proper garbage system)

Health issues abound especially during rainy season

Providing more opportunities for poor (i.e. livelihood programs for the poor)

Improving transportation:

Implement long term plan to improve thoroughfares

Restrictions on illegal vehicles

Improve mass transportation
