Defining the challenge

• Over 200 000 trucks travelling through city centers annually

• Around 10 million passengers annually

• With variety of reasons for travel: workers, leisure time, studying, transit and more

But to better take advantage of thesenumbers, we need solutions

Page 12: Sustainable intelligent transport ... - Helsinki-Tallinna · 2.PILOT B: Smart and dynamic mobility management for outbound traffic 3.PILOT C: Smart Park&Ride for ferry passengers

Presenting practical solutions tosolve common problems – for

example the hate tram dilemma…

Page 13: Sustainable intelligent transport ... - Helsinki-Tallinna · 2.PILOT B: Smart and dynamic mobility management for outbound traffic 3.PILOT C: Smart Park&Ride for ferry passengers

Clever but in all honesty…

Smart solutions based on you makingthe sacrifices ?!

are

Page 15: Sustainable intelligent transport ... - Helsinki-Tallinna · 2.PILOT B: Smart and dynamic mobility management for outbound traffic 3.PILOT C: Smart Park&Ride for ferry passengers

Solutions that we are seekingare:• Dynamic and pragmatic improvements and

enablers that directly enhance the mobility flowsand have direct impact to mobility planning

• Smooth integration of the different modalities, and easy to use information of the publictransport options

• Prioritize sustainable transport mode choices

Five larger pilots to tackle thechallenge

Page 17: Sustainable intelligent transport ... - Helsinki-Tallinna · 2.PILOT B: Smart and dynamic mobility management for outbound traffic 3.PILOT C: Smart Park&Ride for ferry passengers

1.PILOT A: Just-in-time logistics for inbound Heavy Good Vehicles, based on truck parkingat the ring-roads

2.PILOT B: Smart and dynamic mobility management for outbound traffic

3.PILOT C: Smart Park&Ride for ferry passengers with private cars to increase the use ofpublic transport for the port entry/exit.

4.PILOT D: Smart traffic solution for transport chain from Estonia to Helsinki Airport withferry connection.

5.PILOT E: Feasibility study with a pilot on Tallinn ringroad

IN ADDITION TO PILOTS:1.Integration of cross-border public transport and ferry options into the open source mobility

navigator2.Tallinn Region Sustainable Mobility plan harmonized with Helsinki Region plan

Page 18: Sustainable intelligent transport ... - Helsinki-Tallinna · 2.PILOT B: Smart and dynamic mobility management for outbound traffic 3.PILOT C: Smart Park&Ride for ferry passengers

Resulting in…

• 5-10% less time spend in the city area byheavy good vehicles

• 5% less private vehicles in the port area

• Pilots reduce the congestion and speed upout-bound traffic by average of 20 minutesper trip

Moving forward froma to b• All pilots start with a one-year planning stage done

together by all partners

• The preparation includes identification of the keystakeholders and partners, defining the developmentprocess and scope of plan, plan for stakeholder andcitizens involvement as well as living lab minipilots

• The larger pilots will be implemented in 2018-2019.

• Impact assesment
