The Government of Montserrat has hired Barbados-based Atom Solutions for an environmental and social assessment of planned
exploration for a Geothermal power project on this Caribbean island state. Read more

St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Denzil Douglas declares, “Green Energy is the Destination.”
Green energy is the destination for the Caribbean, and there is no turning back, St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Denzil Douglas told
diplomats at the Third Caribbean Sustainable Energy Forum in St Kitts. Douglas was joined by 150 Caribbean participants and diplomats from
the governments of the United Kingdom, Germany, Finland and the United Nations at the St Kitts Marriott Resort. Read more

9-8-2012 ||Cuba to open Solar PV power plantThis year Cuba will have its first solar photovoltaic power plant, said Mario Alberto Arrastia, a specialist with the Cubaenergia company. In an attempt to break with the traditional fossil fuels based approach, the plant will produce 1,500 megawatts (MW) of energy, to which another 10 plants will be added in 2013. Read more

1-8-2012 || Jamaica Broilers to triple Ethanol outputJAMAICA Broilers (JB) said that its has secured new contracts that will triple its ethanol production this fiscal year. What’s more, while the bump in fuel sales is expected to translate into a similar increase in revenue, ethanol profit is projected to grow at a much faster pace. Read more

IPCC Scholarship Programme || Deadline: 30 September, 2012
The aim of the IPCC Scholarship Programme is to build capacity in the understanding and management of climate change in developing countries through providing opportunities for young scientists from developing countries to undertake studies that would not be possible without the intervention of the Fund.
Applications from students from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) researching topics with the fields of study chosen for the call for applications are given priority.
